“Impressive, if a bit grandiose!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2012

I can understand that some would find this hotel a bit out of place - it is very much in the re-interpreted style of a European palace, replete with fountains, marble, intricate woodwork and gold fixtures - not to mention the replicas of European paintings and statues everywhere.

True, the staff would use some extra training in English as well - but we found that to be the case in many hotels we stayed in - and Vung Tau is a popular beach town that has grown quite a lot, local employees may take time to catch up! But they were adorable and as helpful as they could be.

Once you get past the oddness of such a decor in Vietnam, the hotel really is beautiful, gorgeous even, and the beddin is to die for (there is a whole video on how the hotel's owner, a former beauty queen and actress, had the decor and the bedding created to her specifications). There is a very nice, cozy indoor bar area, and several pools to choose from. We dined "on the beach" at their very nice seaside restaurant, and it was delicious.

Breakfast was fairly amazing, lots of choice and great attention to presentation and detail. The grounds are also gorgeous.

Apparently, many young Vietnamese couples come here for their weddings - it's as though they are being married in a French chateau. That is one of the reasons the hotel is successful - it fulfills a real niche in Vietnam where "European" signifies "luxury" to many. There were also a lot of businessmen and women (US, European) and they appear to have a lot of conference facilities.

All in all, if you want to splurge, I definitely recommend it for a relaxing couple of days. It was part of our couples' getaway and it's certainly a romantic spot!

We came to the imperial for 1 night from Saigon, to finish our honeymoon on the beach.
Reception were very courteous as we're the door staff.. But this was where the good service ended.
Our room was large but tired. We booked a sea view room as it had a balcony, but you could not sit out as balcony very small and no furniture.
The beach club staff, apart from one guy, we're terrible. We sat in the restaurant terrace for a while before going to reception to ask someone to come and serve us. They eventually came but were "slopping" along, scraping their feet along the floor with no interest in serving us.
Having stood over us waiting for an order, we ordered coffee and jasmine tea. Only for someone to come back 5 mins later to tell us there was no coffee as "machine broken yesterday". We left and went somewhere else for coffee. Lunch was no better with the Thai fish cakes being sent back. They were as chewy as rubber bands. No apology or replacement was offered.
They then lost our bill and subsequently chased after us in the evening to sign it. They had however taken off the charge for the food we sent back.
We had to take our own seat covers to the chairs on the beach , whilst the staff looked on (is this really a 5 star hotel??? ) . They were not exactly rushed off their feet.

Breakfast ok. But with a 5 star hotel you would expect a tea pot, not a tea bag in a half filled cup of water ?

Probably the worst hotel of our trip.

Room Tip: If you are booking a sea view room to get a balcony, don't bother. No furniture provided, balcon...

Really comfortable hotel with fantastic pool, gym etc. Restaurants are ok. Breakfast was ok. The service lacks experience and english skills. Just try to live with it and enjoy life. They sold us a nice price package for 2 nights but tried to charge normal price. Mistake? I doubt. The hotel seems to be pretty empty during the week. The prices are also lower then.

Room Tip: Victorian suite is really good for 2+ people. Extra bed about 40 usd/night including breakfast.

This hotel is by far the most plush I have seen in Vietnam thus far! It has a world class gym, pools, tennis courts...you name it! The bed was amazingly comfortable!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ocean side.

We went week days. It was so quiet which made it more special treated like royalty. The beach was lovely, we was the only ones on there. Big thank to the front office manger? We even got courtesy rolls royce to ferry.
The only bad thing was the getting on and off the ferry. Scary.

Rooms ambiance very Victorian. Rooms a bit small. Distance to the beach (need to cross a pedestrian bridge) is inconvenient. The selection of seafood in the beach restaurant is limited and overly priced.
The beach occupied by the hotel is not that clean and consist of only a small area which is surrounded by public area. Not much of privacy.
Service of the check-in staff is good.

We arrived late at the hotel and were promptly checked in and shown our room. We chose room service which was prompt and tasty and then settled down for the night. This is where our troubles began. As soon as we settled down all we could hear was the sound of the lift and its air conditioning. It was then we realized that we were next to it. It seemed like the room was going up and down with it. I phoned reception to ask to be moved and was told it would get quieter as the guests went to bed. Wrong answer! To cut a long story short we were moved to a much better room, by this time it was midnight. The hotel is not all bad, the new room and bed were comfortable. We went to breakfast in the morning and it was very nice and the pool area looked inviting but if you want a drink or meal at lunchtime go somewhere else as you could die of thirst & hunger waiting. I must admit I thought they had gone home at one stage and we were the only group there. The staff really need some training and smartening up and this could turn an OK hotel into a very good one. Not all bad, enjoyed the Bavarian bar over the road and the foot massage at the beach pool which is accessed by a bridge over the road. Think twice before returning.
