“Stunning position, should go more upmarket”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

This hotel is in a wonderful position with lovely views over the lake. We had a room in the new wing which was spacious and had a balcony on to the lake. However the hotel let's itself down with mediocre food and very little comfort in the public areas. Chairs and tables are marble - lovely to look at but cold and hard to sit on. There are some lovely grassed open spaces which cry out for loungers. In such a fantastic position this hotel should make more of itself.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new wing.

The best thing to do in Sabgkhlaburi is to enjoy the szenery. If you treat yourself with the a little expensive AC room for 950 Bath you get spacious comfortable rooms with own terrace and the best view you can possibly have. Also 950 Bath is not cheap I would say it is worth the price.
Cheaper rooms are only 250 Bath but small, shared facilies, no AC and you pay 30 Bath for a towel (rent) + 100 Bath deposit and 10 Bath for toilet paper - well that really is a bit rediculous.
In AC rooms towels etc. are provided without extra charge.
Sangkhlaburi is not the place to go if you expact delicious food but even so the pizza at the cafe opposite PG Guesthous is very disappointing! The place looks nice from outside but the pzza is not: dry, cheap sausage, cheap cheese and to salty and it all comes with no service and a bit unfriendly. The two staff (or owners?) were busy at theire computors and made me feel I was disturbing them. But I ' ve already ordered the pizza so I had to stay. I was the only guest and I was sitting outside but still they expect you to order inside - which I didn't know because ther is no sign indicating this- so after 10 minutes I asked if it is open and they said yes and waited for me inside, so trainers off, inside, order, outside again and trainers on again - what for?. As the pizza was very hot - at least - I asked for cutlerie which they didn't like because they had to get up again but I got it. They don't sell neer or cold drinks - well especially whn the pizza is pretty salty and dry that makes sense!
I don't know about P _usthouse restaurant but I guess it will ne better than that.

We were told to ask for room 7 (007) and wow what a view. The whole place is bulit in stone and terraced down to the lake. The views by day and night are superb and it's so peaceful. At night no sounds at all to disturb you other than the wildlife.

Food is good too if a somewhat limited menu. with very welcoming staff.

This guest house was really great. Had great food and the rooms were spacious and very cleaned. We had a room with a large balconiy overlooking the river with a superb view. The owners were very friendly and spoke English quite well. Food at the restaurant was excellent and inexpensive. Great location if you want to go elephant trekking in a beautiful location where a lot of the trails are in the water. Elephants are happy and only work about 4 hours a day. We took the tour from there including a bamboo rafting for an hour and after the elephant trekking. If you decide to do the tour, please pick up snacks and toys for he mountain kids who live n the village as they never really see candies and cookies and are very poor. Just to see their eyes lit up with their little hands together thank you will make your heart melt

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony

P Guesthouse is set in wonderful gardens overlooking the lake. Sunsets are amazing form the restaurant terrace. We had the best room set on the lake's edge with stupendous views from the bed. There was a fridge in the room which was very handy. I did a elephant back, jungle safari which was perfect, accept for the picnic lunch which was very avarage. The restaurant in general was very limitted and could do with some more variety. After a couple of days we started running out of options. Comfortable chairs around the grounds and cushions on the chairs in the restaurant will go a long way. Maybe a few hammocks??

Sanklaburi was a disappointment. Very expensive to visit. I live in chiang mai province and it is much cheaper.
We had aircon room. Room is ok, originaly made with stones. But the originality has a price, 950.- per night. The garden is nice as the view on the lake. Many other gh have a nice view but they also sell it well.
Now the restaurant is a joke. It's as expensive as if sanklaburi was a top touristy destination. What a joke for a country side village.
Also the locals seem not friendly, northern population is much nicer and don't see you as a stupid walking wallet.
I've now seen sanklaburi but i promise sanklaburi will never see me again.
Advise to further visitors : just stay in kanchanaburi and tour around, no need to drive for 4h to come here. Or go up north, same scenery, nicer inhabitants and places with no tourists (chiang dao).

The P Guesthouse is at a great location. Right next to the lake with a great view to the famous wooden bridge! You can rent a canoe or get a longtail boat ride direktly from the guesthouse. Food was expensive for this kind of area, so we didnt test it. Right on the street to the guesthouse are a few good and cheap restaurants. We paid 250Baht for a Fan room with shared bathroom. The room was very basic and clean. The bathroom was clean to, but there are only "standing toilets". You get used to it, but for me it was the only downside of the guesthouse. I can definetly recommend it, its very cheap and Sangkhlaburi is worth a visit, even if it hasn't much to offer on first sight.
