We took this day trip with the speed boat option from Khao Lak, which is approx. 2 hour travel time rather than 4, one way.. The sea was rough when we set out in the morning, much to the amusement of my 11 year old son. We both greatly enjoyed it but it's not for the faint hearted, or people who had a big breakfast. Our tour was a semi private one so we were only 8 on the boat, including 3 staff. I had heard that some trips take 40 or more people at the time, which would have been a much different experience. Towels, beverages, snorkelling gear and lunch was provided. As was some sparkling wine before the ride back. I would recommend this day trip for people who want to see clear white sand beaches, crystal blue waters and stunning views. Not for the snorkelling (the also offer diving). Having seen the coral life in places like Egypt this place has little in comparison. On one of the islands (number 8, Ko Similan) boat after boat drop of huge hordes of mostly Russian and Chinese tourists. Once all the big boats left only the dazzling white sand beach remained. Climbing up the boulders gave the most amazing view of the Andaman sea and it's colours. Something a bit discouraging, which is unavoidable and part of the nature, is the sting of sea bees that after a while scares you out of the water.
