“Not anymore that it used to be”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

We stayed at OK II for a week and had a bungalow down the stairs, close to the sea. We chose OK II because my partner had already been there 10 and 5 years ago, and loved it. Well, we were disappointed.

On the bright side, OK II is one of the cheapest resort on the island. Chalok is a good location if you want to stay away from the crowdy and agitated Sairee Beach. And one thing is for sure, their restaurant is one of the best of the island, if not the best! (and cheap too).

On the other side... most problems come from the fact that the owner is...stingy. Really stingy. Thus, the bungalows haven't been renovated for years. The bathrooms are exactly what they were 10 years ago - they are stains on the floor that cannot be washed. Shower is cold. The wooden steps to reach the bungalow threaten to break. Instead of a bedsheet, we were given a big bath towel...

If you don't specifically ask for it (and insist), the hut will not been cleaned - or the towels changed. After 4 nights, when we finally asked for a cleaning, they said it was too late "because you have to ask before 10am" (it was 10.30am). The owner wouldn't know anything and we argued for about 10 minutes before he finally accepted to ask the cleaning guy to take care of the bungalow, not without mentionning that "the guy will be angry". Tell me how the cleaning could possibly be over at 10.30 when check-out time it 10... Not to say we often saw the cleaning team chilling out around the huts, sitting on the balcony of the emptied ones and doing nothing, from 10 to 12am...

For the day we had to leave, we booked a taxi from them. It was a songthaw that we shared with 4 others people from the resort. We payed 100THB per person. Knowing that an usual taxi is 300THB for the journey we did, you can see that they simply double their profit on the service. Stingy people.

Finally, we couldn't help to notice that they never ever offer anything to us, although my partner was staying there for the 3rd time (what they knew), that we stayed a whole week, and that during the week we ate twice a day in their restaurant, almost every day. Of course they don't have to offer you anything - but just a fruit juice time to time would be nice.

About the location now. We thought it would be quiet, especially down the rocks... Wrong. That's not the fault of the resort, but the nearest beach is being privatised, and the access has been closed. Thus, we had lots of people all day long in front of our hut swimming and snorkeling. Some of them even let their waste on our steps. Charming.

Conclusion: it used to be a very nice place. It is no more. The only thing still worth it is the restaurant... That's too bad.

When we found this place, we were very happy! We stayed at sairee beach and it was very crowded.. Not what we were looking for. So when we found this place we could finally relax. We had a hut with a brilliant sea view. Just a few steps over the rocks and you could enter the sea.. The room has everything you need. Sure you see a lizard sometimes.. And maybe a few ants on the bathroom wall, even a squirrel one day.. But no Mosquitos and the rooms are clean. It is a lovely and romantic place. The people in the restaurant are extremely nice and 'rash' even enjoys working in the restaurant hehe.. Great guy! Shark bay is great to go snorkeling during high tide we saw sharks everyday! Even some turtles! The beach is reached easily if you like a challenge on rocks. This was for us the perfect place to stay. (good for the leg muscles as well ;)

Bar the views from the bungalows in this Accommadation this place is a complete rip off! Bungalows just have a fan which barely works! Bugs all over the place and also lizards in our bed! We stayed for 4 nights(if we hadn't pre booked and paid we would have left) and they never cleaned the bungalow once! Shower was cold and every bit of the plumbing was leeking! Holes all over the cabin so any size off a creature can get in! It's near SharkBay on the total wrong side of the island to where you want to be but you could prob get over that! We rented a scooter off them for the last day and we were driving it literally 20 mins b4 handing it back and we could see the scooter was perfect( no marks) While we were getting our bags in the cabin before check out they pulled off the wing mirror of the scooter and charged us 500 baht! The place is run by young scammers and they were just laughing at us while we explained that the scooter was in perfect condition 20 mins before! Nothin we could do they had our my passport! I can't say that I have anything good to say about this place!

I stayed here for 5 days, and couldn't enjoy more the bungalow up in the hill overlooking the beautiful bay of sharks. The room had what you need (no luxuries attached), clean and comfortable. The staff is really friendly, and the restaurant has delicious food in a terrace that overlooks the bay. Just a few stairs down, and you're ready to snorkel in what's left of what once was a very famous snorkeling bay. With good vis, it's still nice! When you arrive to the big rocks at the end of the stairway, swim to your right (not towards the bay), and there's a lot of things to see.
It's a bit faraway from other things, but not as much as Tanote or another of the secluded bays, so prices for food are not exaggerated, and you can always ride your bike (a must in Koh Tao) to a restaurant near by.
A very, very solid option, definitely the best in this bay.

It is amazing no one has written about this place. I have stayed here on 3 separate occasions at different times of the year. First off its really off the beaten path to be sure. but a much safer off the beaten path than going over to Mango bay. This place is as basic as it gets no TV's maybe 1-2 AC rooms (Always get the fan its enough because of the breeze). What makes this place a gem is having a bungalow right on the water. Two of them are so close you get misted in bad weather. (Jan) Its great hearing the waves and smelling the salty air. My main love of this place is the fact you can swim with Black tip reef sharks. Slap on a mask maybe some fins out the door into the water for some very decent sealife. I spent enough time in the bay to know its underwater landmarks so if you like snorkeling just swim in a strait line across the bay from the OK 2 sign about 100 yards out follow the white sand fingers if you cant find it. This is a perfect little eco system on a submerged rock that you can watch an occasional shark swim by and check out a myriad of sealife. The food is decent not great but not bad at all, it is also within a long walk to Buddha view dive schools excellent BBQ or a bicycle ride to Golden 119 and Tuk Tak (Suppose to be the best Panang curry on the island but I got food poisoning). The final nice part about OK 2 is a nice beach within a short swim if you look at it from above its really nice.
