“Amazing view, best infinity pool and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

We spent 4 days at the Aminjirah in April 2014. We couldn't ask for a better experience in Koh Tao, thanks to the Aminjirah and all its amenities, including the scooter rental next door. We spent at least 2 sunsets in the infinity pool, just so relaxing and incredible view!! The food at the hotel was also very good! We tried the Western food and Thai food, they were definitely above average. Drinks by the pool is a must! During the day, we took our scooter to explore different beaches to snorkel at, and found the Aow Leuk Bay to be the best!! We saw so much marine life, including baby sharks! In the evening, there are so many restaurants in town to choose from, but our favorite was Porto Bella. Great Italian food!
The only disappointment was that the morning coffee was not fresh, but powder. But a minor issue considering the rest of the experience. Thank you Sam, Michael and the rest of the wonderful staff!

Room Tip: We stayed at Room#12, wonderful view, air conditioning worked well. We did find a huge spider in the...

Dear TravelingZs,

I would like to thank you for your warm words of recommendation. The kitchen will be pleased to hear your words of encouragement and so will the wait staff and Michael.

I have often seen black tip reef sharks and turtles in Aow Leuk, so definitely worth the 10 minute moped ride there.

My mum booked this as a treat for my friend and I for 3 nights as we had been in hostels most of our 4 months travelling. Our room was incredible. Ocean view from bed and so comfy. We will definitely reccommend aminjirah to friends. Staff are so so friendly and we couldn't of had a more relaxing time. The food was delicious - especially the green curry! And the pool was refreshing and had the best view of all. We didn't want to leave!

Dear minischichtie,

It was a pleasure meeting you briefly and glad you enjoyed our Sunset Ocean Dream bungalow. The view truly is lovely and it is hard to ask for more. Always happy when we can be a nice part of someone's holiday.

We arranged to stay at the hotel via the website, asking if there was availability on the dates we required. I received an email back fairly promptly that evening, I was unable to check my email until the following afternoon (due to travelling), but on doing so followed the link in the email to pay the specified amount via PayPal and paid. About 10mins later I got a refund email from PayPal but no other email from the hotel so I contacted them to ask the reason for this.

Their reply the next day was that the room was no longer available but they could put us in a room which was double the amount for the first night and then downgrade us for the second.

I emailed back again asking if they had the original room available for a day later, they said they did. They sent the email booking voucher confirmation. I replied asking them to send me the relevant PayPal link in order to pay. To my disbelief they then sent me an email back saying that the room was no longer available due to current guests wanting to stay longer.

I'm not normally one to leave bad reviews and complain, but as we were travelling Thailand and Cambodia in only 4 weeks (booking hotels a day or so before), the fact we had already postponed our trip to Ko Tao by one day and were then told the hotel was unavailable, resulted in us having to miss Ko Tao off the itinerary altogether as the only hotels left were far too expensive.

Dear Nhopkinsuk,

I am are sorry for the booking experience that you experienced. Normally there are not that many issues with bookings. The issues you experienced was a result of our resort being fully booked and other guests continuously extending their stay. This was further exacerbated by our small resort taking on a new receptionist who in his keenness to assist our staying guests did not quickly enough inform me about some of these details.

Still, I am of course sorry to have disappointed you and hope the relatively quick refund and answers to your emails were appreciated, giving you enough time to arrange other accommodation on the island.

There is no question that your review of your booking experience in this case is accurate and we must do better. Still I am a little disappointed that you felt it necessary to give us a one star review, when clearly that is not a common experience or what you would have experienced staying here. A personal email to us could have been sufficient and I am sure we would have been able to offer you a great stay in the future.

Still, all the best in the future and happy travels.

This hotel is amazing with spectacular views. The room we got was brilliant and the owner was very accommodating. Lovely staff, the one thing was the shuttle service is a bit hit and miss. Breakfast was beautiful. Would definitely be back. All I can say is picturesque.

Dear Debbie,

Thank you for your kind words. It does leave the resort at 11 and 15 hrs to Sairee Village drop off but for the transfer back it would be roughly 5 - 10 minutes later and we do need to know ahead of time if anyone wants be be picked up or it will just go straight back.

We will work at better explaining the shuttle services in the future and apologize for any confusion.

My wife and I booked the "mystery room" at the Aminjirah for 4 nights and we cannot say enough great things about this resort. We were given room #6 for the first 3 nights which I was a huge room and we were upgraded to the nicest room at the resort (with its own private infinity pool) on the last night. The manager San along with the rest of the staff here were very nice, welcoming, spoke great english, and genuinely wanted to make sure you enjoyed your stay to the fullest. The rooms were large, beautiful decorated and very thoroughly cleaned. The grounds are beautiful and of course the crown jewel of the resort, the infinity pool area, is simply amazing.

The food and drinks here were fantastic; the panang curry was the best we have ever had, pad thai was huge and very good, and the mixed fruit shakes, mango mojito, and mai thai were absolutely phenomenal. Although the price of food and drink was definitely higher than down the road in Sairee Beach, the high quality and large portions really make it worth it.

Bottom Line: Stay at the Aminjirah, it's an amazing resort worth every penny.

Room Tip: "Mystery Room" booking gave us amazing rooms at a much cheaper price

Dear Rolex1990

Heartwarming review. We really appreciate all your amazing comments. We do want to point out that booking the mystery room could also put you in one of the smaller rooms, still we find it a "fun" way to experience a few of the different rooms in our resort.

Thank you for your appreciation of our restaurant and bar offerings. The staff were really pleased to hear your comments.

- Our room (no 12) was large and nicely accommodated. The view is stunning and it has a small private balcony. It is right beside the pool. Very practical but not so private and a bit noisy in the evening.
- The view from the pool is INCREDIBLE !
- We loved the cocktail bar and the restaurant food and cocktails were very good and the staff was nice.
- San, the manager, is extremely helpful and efficient.

- We had trouble with the online booking system. It could be better.
- The hotel is a bit hotel isolated. The taxi rates on the island are extortionate, of course the hotel is not to blame for that. So the best solution is to rent a Vespa.
- Hand towels in the room would be nice.

Dear Roberto G,

You are right in all aspects and thank you for your lovely words. Taxis aren't what we are proud of on the island's and they do charge as they see fit. We hope our free shuttle twice daily takes a little of sting out of the experience. Renting a moped is also a great way to see the island in any case. The small shop next to Aminjirah is very fair and good bikes.

Room 12 can be a bit less private, but personally I feel the SUPERB AMAZING VIEW and being so close to the pool outweighs the negatives. But it is good you mention it so other guests can make an informed decision. In the night time I feel that the restaurant being at the other end of the area, makes the are where # 12 nice and quiet.

Thank you again!

If you are looking for a view a bit higher up the mountain and are happy to rent a scooter to get around this place has comfortable rooms, really friendly staff and a great pool to watch the sunset. Staff did transfers to and from ferry pier as part of service and good quality scooters can be hired from a non dodgy lender next door to the resort.
