“Amazing view and a pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed here 1 week from late March to beginning of April 2013. The view from the hotel and pool is possibly its most amazing feature - the nights watching the sunset were absolutely beautiful. However, it is a bit of a taxi ride from the town and restaurants, if that's important to you (not really walking distance). We were fine with just taking a taxi to these things in the evenings, its not expensive.
The hotel room was fine (ocean view superior), but not great - and the bathroom needed some work. We were not quite happy with the cleaning - dead insects would lie there for days without being cleaned. Also, our roomed seemed to be occupied by an ant farm, but they gave us some spray that we had to use for this. In general, staff is friendly and help out when they can, but a whole week was perhaps a bit too long of a stay, as there is not too much to do in the immediate area. Good for romantic vacation though, and if you want to be alone and relax with your partner! You definitely get some privacy here. They were also very helpful and professional regarding a refund. Finally: rock hard beds, but this seems to be the trend all over thailand! :) good thing they offer thai massages everywhere...

Room Tip: It seems the more you pay, the better room you will definitely get here! Probably worth paying a bit...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the kind words and constructive words. Rest assured that cleanliness will be improved and that this will be brought up with our manager San as it is his responsibility. I will check the bedding issue as this has not been mentioned by any previous guests.

Stayed here for 3 nights due to TA reviews and was not disappointed. Stayed in Budget room which was small but perfectly fine. Mosquito net didn't quite fit the bed though, which got a bit annoying at night, but other than that it was fine. The pool is amazing, fantastic sunsets while drinking cocktails in the pool with probably the best view on Koh Tao, is worth a stay just for that. On our last day though, some annoying American backpackers came and took up 5 sunbeds, meaning we were not able to lie down all day. This was not good and I think the pool should be limited to hotel guests only. But don't let that stop you from booking, you won't regret it!

Room Tip: Budget room is small but fits a couple OK. Would upgrade room if staying longer than 2 nights.

We stayed at the Aminjirah for 5 nights recently & were extremely pleased with our choice. We moved around the resort - sunset dream (12) beautiful room with a big bathroom, nice balcony with an amazing view, right next to the main pool area. This was our favorite room during our stay. We then moved to a budget room (9) this was a small basic room ideal for a couple of nights but not any longer. Moved then too another sunset dream room (13) gorgeous room once again exactly the same as room 12.

We ate in the resort a couple of times & found the food good (especially the chicken satay).

As others have mentioned the resort is on an extremely steep hill around 15 minutes walk to sairee beach. In the heat we found this walk quite difficult, but would be better to walk during cooler periods. Due to this we hired a scooter as a one way taxi fare was double the price of scorer hire for one day. We hired our scooter from banana hire in sairee beach & had no trouble with additional fees when returning the scooter.

We would definitely like to return to Aminjirah for the amazing views, nice pool (although think they maybe adding too many chemicals to the pool as shorts turned a strange color), & gorgeous rooms.

My boyfriend and I left Aminjirah this morning, and I couldn't wait to get wifi so that I could write a review!
From the moment we arrived San - the manager could not do enough to help. He is such a nice man!
Other members of staff do not speak very good English, but we found that they still enjoyed trying to talk to us - which we loved!
Our room was extrememly spacious. Although it could have done with a little TLC this did not matter to us as we spent most of our time on the beach or around the AMAZING pool!!
Although the hotel was around a 15 min walk from the main strip, we always enjoyed a nice stroll down on an evening ... But then always a taxi back!
I would reccomend this hotel to anyone! We had a great stay!!
Thanks to San & your staff. Jade & Ben from room number 5 xx

I went this place in March 2013 and it was fully booked so happy had booked much earlier. The place is very calm and relaxing and I found the service to be wonderful and the thai food in particular very tasty. I couldn't fault anything at the resort and would definitively come back if had the chance.

Ps. stayed in the sunset dream suite which was very spacious and nice with all creature comforts.

Room Tip: Room 13 was very private and amazing view.

We went there on March 2013 and stayed for a week. The hotel is nicely located, on top of a cliff, with an amazing view and an infinite pool. Imagine yourself sipping a Chang beer, at sunset, with a view on the gulf and on Koh Nang Yuan. The service is great, especially the manager who were really helpful and nice. Food is not amazing, though. And the room we had (nº13) has a nice view and was ok in terms of comfort. Not mesmerizing but ok. Rent a scooter and you're only 5 min away from Sairee Beach. You can even get a shuttle from the pier to the hotel for free.

I stayed in the hotel for just for 3-4 days while in Koh Tao.
The interior design of the reception, rooms, garden/pool are very nice and all spotlessly clean. My room was ocean view with a small balcony and a small sofa, table and chairs. The room size was ok, all cleaned daily and spotless. I liked the bathroom- was partly outside and what really enjoyed is when enter it- the feeling I am going into the wild, with those noises various insects and geckos make.
Just one small piece of advice to the housekeepers- in the Western world- the pajamas/night dresses while in use they live under the pillow, was just weird to come back to the room after was cleaned and every day to find them on the table on the top of the make up/creams etc. I presume is just cultural differences, not a big deal.
The view from the bar/big swimming pool was stunning. Amazing sunsets, inexpensive wonderful food and cocktails (compliments to the cook). The meals are served covered with cling film. The guys in the bar have no English. They learned the meal names, but everything apart of that or any small talk interaction- mission impossible. Also they would need to wipe the small tables more often, few times glasses, plates, empty bottles were left to sit there for hours and in the end I would just bring them to the bar. One of the evenings I couldn't see in the dark I left my bag on the table to discover it was sitting in a puddle of oil/ food leftover. In the morning I sat on the same place for breakfast and the same puddle was still there. Also talking about the pool- they seem to be very lenient and allow visitors who are not guests in the hotel to use it. There were 2 German girls, who were not staying in the hotel, coming daily and occupying the whole space shouting to each other from one side to the other, I am not sure what made them think that all the rest of the visitors are interested listening to them and being in the limelight entertaining all, one of the afternoons they had even the cheek to put their annoying music- Gangnam style etc. from their laptop over the lovely chill out/ groovy music coming from the bar, so the barman kindly stopped the bar music, so all of us to listen to that from someone who not even paid €70 a night to stay in this hotel!!
The staff was very helpful, in particular ( Mr.San!?, please forgive me if not the right name) the Hotel Manager/ the man in the reception- he has excellent English and great personality. He helped me a lot with information and directions.
If you are not renting a scooter it is expensive to get a taxi from Saree- 300/400 baht each way. Walking in the night is safe just bring a torch, as the cyclist/ drivers to be able to see you, some serious uphill parts of the road though, I am trained and doing lots of mountain walking, but especially the last 300m before the hotel are very, very steep and counting in mind that during the day was around 36 degrees and in the night not cooler than 30- it is a serious challenge. The hotel provides complimentary service to collect and drop to the ferry and during some times of the day, which is great.
To wrap up, I highly recommend this hotel to stay in. I am sorry if I have been too critical, but hope that will help them to improve some small aspects in their service.
The last thing, but not least, very important before you book through the hotel website or Agoda, there is no clarification with the terms and conditions of booking, it says Flexible, but don't fall for that. Nothing is changeable/ flexible- the next day the money are taken from your credit card and you receive the voucher saying that the booking is not refundable/ or able to change/ amend dates, so keep that in mind if you are not sure of your exact dates or want to keep flexible.
Have a lovely stay in Koh Tao!
