On the ferry to Koh Tao there was many people from dive schools handing out leaflets. Pingpong from DJL was one of them and the one we chose. She was really friendly, promised that she would find us accommodation we were happy with, gave us her mobile number and told us that she was our 'emergency contact for anything we needed'. Spent about an hour dotting from one accommodation to another with Pingpong running in and out. We ended up at Ocean View 12 mins from the dive shop. Basic rooms but i wasn't going to complain as it was free.
I signed up for my Advanced Open Water diving (previously dived with another dive school earlier in the year on the island) and my girlfriend for her Open Water.
I was the only person in my group, my instructor (Steven) was really easy to get on with, felt safe on every dive with him, had a really good laugh and everything was still completed in a professional manor.
My girlfriend's instructor was Matt who was really nice, always said 'hi' to us when we stopped by. She liked the course as there was only 3 people in her group so they got lots of help when needed. 1 day in the pool and 4 dives the next 2 days out in the sea. You get the choice to try for free in the pool before you join a course, to see if you like it or not.
The tanks and equipment were taken from the dive shop to the long tail on the beach for everyone before the dive. The beach is a 400m walk away. Once on the long tail you'd then be taken to the dive boat, ran by Mamma and Pappa, and all the equipment would be transferred while you waited upstairs. Then the reverse when you get back to the shore.
Every dive shop on the island has dogs, the ones here were perfectly fine and would normally spend the morning play flighting with each other then would wait on the beach for the divers to return from each dive.
We returned here three times to do extra fun dives with DJL - discounted if you have done a course with them. The night dive was classed as an adventure dive for my girlfriend so cost more (but can be used as part of her advanced if she wants to do it). The fun dives had small groups and were very relaxed with great instructors. Definitely try a night dive :)
