“Phi Phi The Beach Resort great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

I was not too sure about coming to the Phi Phi beach resort due to the poor reviews recently.
Im glad that I did not listen to them.
The breakfast was typical Thai/European.
The pool is small but who needs a pool when you have a lovely beach with crystal clear water and fish swimming around you if you feed them.
I agree that the hotel food is expensive but they always are.
I would goto the Moonlight restaurant next door for a local meal, very cheap and some of the best Thai food ive had in years of coming here.
Over all for the money you pay for Phi Phi I would definitely come again. It is quiet here though!. Just what we wanted.
I was very surprised by how dirty the beach was at Loh Dalham Bay, not like the pictures they show, these were how it was before the Tsunami.

Room Tip: Go for the most expensive rooms as they have a great sea view. All the poor reviews for this place...

The hundred Euro cottages are the basic ones but this price is not adequate to the condition of the room:
- blood stains everywhere - on the curtains, bed linen, paper towel holders
- towels are grey and yellow, look like someone was wiping floors with them
- ants of all kinds in the bathroom
- the sink is placed on the peace of concrete covered with stains as if they took it directly from the construction site
- you can see ground through the holes in the floor
- my husband killed a huge cockroach in the room - must have got there through these holes. The previous visitors tucked a tissue in the hole in the wall - we appreciated )
- when we tried to open the sliding door of the closet, it just fell down

What I liked:
- geckos in the room ) they hunt mosquitoes
- friendly staff. They can deliver you from the reception to the room on the car
- beach
- location. Away from the town which yet can easily be accessed on a longtail

Room Tip: Try another hotel in this area or a more expensive room. The restaurant of the hotel on the hill (g...

If you think of Phi Phi as only a basic beach bungalow destination, then The Beach Resort is ok. If you're looking for anything more than very basic facilities and would like to have good service - then this is not the place.

The stilted bungalows are ok.. the air con is inadequate though and the room is tired and in need of repair (curtains rotting, doors not shutting properly, curtain rails falling apart). They need to invest in decent pillows - the ones we had were so hard they gave us neck ache which lasted all day. We slept without them in the end. The bath mats are all frayed and grey with age. Closet space in our room was in the corner with one tiny shelf and 6 hangers. I ended up putting all my clothes on the table next to the TV just so I could see them. Cheap bathrobes were children sized and slippers were discoloured and curled up with age.

In room facilities are cheap and basic, Nescafe Red instant coffee and dried creamer, not even milk in the fridge. TV reception was crappy and limited. No True subscription here.

As mentioned in other T/A reviews, there are some ageing plastic beach loungers - black with dirt and no cushions on them. There are some cushioned loungers on one end of the beach, and for these, you have to pay THB100 each to an officious lady with a clipboard...

So that's the good, the bad? F&B. Food here is 3 or 4 times more expensive than everywhere else on the island, and much worse. A perfectly good red snapper was "butterflied" and BBQ'd for so long it was unrecognisable as a fish any more. Dry, unseasoned but offered with an array of overly strong flavoured sauces which would mask the flavour of anything. Awful. A Greek salad was made of of slightly furry tomatoes and cucumber and instead of the promised Feta, what I suspect was cream cheese was included. Three dice sized bits of cream cheese. That will serve me right for ordering a non Thai dish...

Bar service was confused and not really service. 10 staff roaming around, yet no one interested in helping us get a drink, except for the barlady/boy who always helped. If you order a drink, instead of the waiter passing the order directly to the bar, they insisted on doing their prolonged paper work first. The best way to get a drink was to ask the barlady/boy directly who just got on with it. To get a drink on the beach, forget it. Go to the bar yourself.

After 6 days, the bar staff still wanted to see proof that you were staying at the resort before allowing you to sign for drinks. In the end, we just gave up and paid cash each time. Zero welcome, zero hospitality.

Breakfast was ok, but basic. Food cost is clearly on their mind. No fresh mango, cheap processed fruit juice, and the worst coffee ever. Think Cona coffee from the 80's, brewed for hours - undrinkable.

Reception staff were always smiling and the guys at the resort owned Blacktip Scuba place were great. Long Beach has a bunch of bungalows scattered along the length of the beach, and they were not charging half as much as The Beach Resort. If we came back, we would probably prefer to stay at one of these places as the rooms (though not elevated on stilts and therefore with less or no view) would serve the purpose of basic accommodation.

Overall I would say that The Beach Resort is overpriced for the quality of the product and the level of service, the correct price should be no more than US60 per night at a push. What is very evident is that there is a lack of management, lack of staff training and general lack of attention to any details. With a little effort, investment and training this could be a great resort as the location is perfect, but obviously the owning company are not interested in the guest experience, only reaping the financial rewards which is evident by the developing of more villas without any investment in improving the current facilities.

Room Tip: Unless you are very fit...make sure you get a villa at a lower level, otherwise be prepared for a st...

We enjoyed an absolutely amazing wedding and three-day stay at The Beach Resort. Beautiful villas with beautiful views. Food and drink were superb. Staff was above and beyond. While our massages were good, other clients were noisy and disruptive...had many other less expensive, more relaxing massages in SE Asia.

We would be hard pressed to stay at any other hotel/resort on Ko Phi Phi. The main town leaves quite a bit to be desired, as did many of the hotels/resorts we walked past.

When you come into PhiPhi with the boat, there are soooooo many tourists.
You have to pay 20 bath pr person in tax.
We were picked up , and brought to the hotel by a longtail boat ,free of charge.
We had a beautiful view from our litle "cabin"' ,and you could sit ouside at the terasse, and just enjoy this beautiful island.
The room is simple.
The hotel has a private ,first class, beach, where you can rent snorkeling mask, end swim with colorful fish. Amazing...
Free sun beds, and free towels by the reception.
The breacfast was very good, hot thai food, fresh fruit, omeletes, bacon, eggs and more.
Most of the villas are placed in a steep hill, so for people with walking problems it's not easy to get around.
In the hotel rest/bar they will charge you a service fee at 10 %, and that's unreasonable.
Buy your drinks in the smal beach bar.
We will recomend this place, and would love to come back.
