It's been some years back since I have stayed at this resort and looking back at my experience there still makes me angry from the treatment we recieved. It has recently been brought up again by my sister who stayed at the same resort and had somewhat of a similar experience.
The resort in itself is quite OK, with a great location, clean rooms and nice facilities. The majority of the staff were quite friendly too, and I would have recommended this resort with an average rating if not for my experience on the last day at checkout.
We have stayed there for two nights and before the last day of stay, I have requested a morning call service and had the time checked about three times to make sure we have enough time for breakfast and check out to catch our ferry pre-reserved. It was all requested to the same lady at the front desk. The morning call never came.
Waking up 30minutes later then when we should have been up, we had just enough time to check out and head to the dock, I decided not to make any complaints on the matter when the same front desk lady who neglected the call service told us that one of the decorative cloth that was on our beds was missing and we have to pay for it. I remembered reading the notification in the room that the fine is about 1,200THB if it goes missing. I had put it aside on top of the TV to make sure it doesn't get mixed up with any of our stuff, and never bothered with it since. I asked the front desk lady to check again, offered her staff to check our luggage and she refused, saying that she just needs to recieve the fine fee. I asked to discuss the subject with the manager and that is when she started yelling at us. From then on we engaged in shouting combat with each other with me requesting to talk to the manager and her refusing and asking for the fine fee. When I realized the dispute is going nowhere and we need to catch our ferry, I slamed the money on her desk suggesting her where I think she should put the money. She elegantly replied to that by hurling the heavy "front desk" plaque in my direction. I still have the scar left on my right thigh to remind me of her and wonder if she still works there.
I still don't know what really happened to the cloth. Maybe one of the other two I traveled with took it and hid it in her luggage. Maybe it's how the front desk lady makes her extra earnings. Making the guests pay fine fees. I suspect the latter because first of all, I think my friends would never do such a thing. Secondly, when my sister went to this resort a couple of months ago, she had 1 new towel less in her room after the cleaning staff came and went. There were two in the room and they should have had 2 bath towels and 2 smaller towels but they only recieved 1 bath towel. She thought the staff just forgot to put in two and did not call attention to it. When she checked out, she had to pay a fine fee for the missing bath towel.
I have had the worst experience and memory of my stay in Koh PhiPhi Don, from one front desk lady who single handedly ruined all of my good memories there. We have been accused of stealing, have been called names and I have been mentally and physically violated from a front desk lady who's suppose to be the face of the hotel.
If you have plans to stay in this resort, I woudn't recommend it for the excellence in service. Just make extra sure that nothing in your room goes missing, even the hotel's, and call attention to it immediately.
