“Convenient, so cant complain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

When arriving in Ko Phi Phi Don off the ferry, the short walk straight to Phi Phi Hotel was pretty appealing after a half day of travel and some rain. Their rates might be high for the budget backpacking type, but having a room with a great view located in the narrow center of the island was worth splurging a little for a few days. The staff was great, and the hotel was well maintained. I probably wouldn’t book this hotel for my honeymoon, but Hotel Phi Phi was a good basic hotel on one of my favorite islands in Thailand.

Stayed in two hotels run by the same company, both similar rooms very clean and comfortable, but in no way worth 2090baht considering what we have paid and got previously. This was of course due to the fact that Ko Phi Phi is 'the new Malia' and is littered with uv clad teenagers sporting bandages, chang tees and very little underwear. Close to everything (whatever 'everything' is) but every hotel is considering how tiny Ko Phi Phi is.
Always pre book accommodation as pretty much every place we looked up that was within our budget was full when we got there. So, book in advance or if you really can't get the earliest possible ferry and split up and run!
WARNING - When going to the viewpoint, do NOT follow the signs for the secluded beach. We did, and there is no 'path' as such, we were eaten alive by mosquitos, fell and injured ourselves a lot given that the ground was flash-flood-like, very very steep and dangerous and completely enclosed in a jungle (saw a snake!). Leads you to a dreadful beach with a conveniently placed bar and restaurant that offers you a boat taxi to the pier for a nice price. Arranged much?

Lovely Hotel, with great location. Ask for a room on the top floor if you can for the view ;) I would stay here again if in beautiful Ko Phi Phi. The rooms are clean and the staff are pleasant. The breakfast was ok. I usually bought a coconut shake at the end of the small road leading up to the hotel instead. It's a small island and you can walk everywhere. This Hotel is in the centre of everything. Loved it.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room if possible, for the view ;)

We travelled with another couple to Ko Phi Phi Don and thought we'd have a similar experience to Ao Nang Beach on Krabi and experience the beaches similar to the movie filmed here, "The Beach." However, if you are looking for a nice and tranquil beach in a relaxed setting, this island may not be for you. The move, "The Beach" was actually filmed on nearby Ko Phi Phi Lei and is not really inhabitable. The beach from the movie is locally known as Maya Bay and there are many tours that will take you there from Ko Phi Phi Don and it is very crowded and touristy. We were very saddened in that the beach is very littered. Standing in the water, I came in contact with a boat metal spool and ring, match lighter, straws, tupperware.. It is such a beautful beach, but so poorly maintained. If you are going to lay out on this crowded beach, rent a chair because there may be ants crawling around you on the sand. The other side of the island was better, not as littered and definitely more quiet, However, the water was also a "boat parking lot." Not sure how much of what we say is an impact from the 2004 Tsunami.

If you are a young traveller, planning to mainly dive all day and party all night, this may be your island. Diving is huge here. We did do a dive and the water is incredibly blue and warm, but the sea life and coral were not as plentiful and colorful as I had hoped. The village is very condensed and crowded and this hotel is in the midst of everything. The hotel makes for an average "crash pad" and we were told is the safest place to be on the island if there is a tsunami. Be prepared to bring a paper print out of your confirmation. Upon arrival, they did not have a computer to look us up and insisted on having a physical piece of paper despite being shown our confirmation email on our mobile phone. So, my husband had to find a nearby internet cafe to have it printed. There are also no elevators and breakfast was average.

Stayed here with my family (2 adults, 2 children of 12 and 7) for 3 nights.

The hotel is OK, but not more. The views from the room was fantastic. The room itself was sober and clean enough, although a huge cockroach was our pet one day...

The hotel is quite noisy, slamming doors and many guests who think they are alone in the hotel.

Breakfast buffet was OK, not stunning. Swimming pool was dirty and not very attractive. Don't go here for the swimming pool. Staff was OK, but not proactively service minded.

The price for what you get is pretty steep, but hey.. this is Phi Phi. Everything seems to be more expensive here than the rest of Thailand while quality is pretty mediocre.

The also do not have family rooms so we were forced to hire two doubles.

The most positive thing about this hotel is the location. Very close to the pier and in the middle of the Phi Phi village in a quite corner...

we thought the phi phi trip was a waste of time and money, the best thing we did it was a day snorkeling trip, otherwise there is nothing to do there, you cant even rest. hotel was shabby, reception girl was unhelpful and rude, during breakfast we were looked at because I ate fruits, maybe I was supposed to stuff myself on bread and starchy sausages.
Our room was facing tin roofs , so no view whatsoever, room was old and walls are thin, so we were listening our neighbors for a long time. Rather avoid south of Thailand, north is much more relaxing and happy place.
Our floor smelled like toilet, and island was very trashy, dirty, and everyone has to pay a cleaning fee when entering island. Yuk.

Room Tip: do not come here at all

Stayed a few nights here with a big room viewing the bay. Decent shape and standard, but it seems there haven't been any recent updates to the property.

Nice to be central and close to the shops and diving and resteraunts. The staff were charmed by our boy, so there was a little familiarity that was comfortable.

Good electronic combo safe in the room was handy.

The property isn't so exciting though. No recent renovations and the TV was an old tube type. No free internet.
