“Stunning Setting..Suffering From Effects Of Tourism”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

We visited this beach as part of a snorkelling tour. The view from the beach is magnificent..the bright sun reflecting off the clear blue water with the large green rocks in the background was worth the visit alone. We visited in the afternoon so, even though there were many tourists, the beach wasn't overly crowded. There is a trail leading from the beach to another small bay nearby.

There were a few signs that the previously unspoilt beach is starting to suffer from the effects of the great number of tourists visiting. This was highlighted when pieces of litter could be seen when walking through the wooded areas just off the beach. A shame that such a beautiful place is being subjected to this.

We also visited Bamboo island which was, in my opinion, a much nicer beach.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Stunning as long as you visit in the afternoon, the morning trips are rammed with tourists !!!! You will have to pay 200 baht to enter the island, this fee is for the Thai version of the national trust/national parks type organisation, they don't usually tell you this on the trips, you either pay this on Maya bay or on Bamboo island, I don't think you pay twice, this wasn't made clear to us !!! Worth a visit though, beautiful place

“Maya bay? More like Maya GAY”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Let me first of all start by saying im gay so its fine i created that ridiculously awesome headline.

Secondly I have to say that we almost died getting to the place. You have to swim from your boat or long boat to climb these steep steps (this is if the water is too rough for them to stop in the bay). My girlfriend got thrown against a rock and was bobbing around like a cork in her life jacket. Obviously it was hilarious but it could have ended very badly.

You can tell this place used to be stunning. Now it is just full of tourists with their cameras jumping around catching photos of themselves in the air. BORING. and ANNOYING!!

Luckily it wasn't that over crowded when we went that we couldn't escape from people.

Oh yeah and we had to pay 200 baht each because its a national park.. But with all the litter and crap I don't think the money is going towards its preservation!

“Crowded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013 via mobile

Over crowded. Not much shady area to sit around. Water is not really clean, litters. Poor phone network. Beautiful scenery though! Once in a life time thing since already in Phuket.
