“Excellent stay at paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We had 2 marvellous days and nights at the Holiday Inn in Phi Phi island. The warm welcome was just a perfect start of the remaining 2 days. We were offered a welcome drink and refreshing towels at check-in and were upgraded to an even better bungalow as part of the priorityclub program. The pool and beach provided a stunning view and the whole resort is nicely located in a very green garden situated along the beach site.
The service and breakfast was superb.... and even the choice of coffees was amazing... not just a regular coffee for breakfast but espresso or latte's where all included.
The personalized approach and service of the Holliday Inn staff was very professional and much appreciated, while the invitation to the welcome party provided an opportunity to learn to know the staff members better and to obtain more information about the offered programs.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at this beautiful resort and it will surely be on our list if we ever return to Phi Phi Island.

Stayed here on 15th October. First impressions were "wow". Mainly because its on the paradise island, but it really was paradise. Check in was an experience - we didnt actually have to que up, the guy came over to us gave us drinks took our confirmation came back asked us to sign and then escorted us to our bungalow. No hassle at all. The garden bungalow is great, it has all the things you will need from a comfy bed, to towels and bathrobes. The pool and spa were great, shops were good and the restaurants were good. Good food and great value for money. We booked a tour to Maya Bay (The Beach) through the hotel which suprisingly was very cheap! 1663 baht for 2 people for 4 hours in a longtail boat which include other sights along the way. I would definatley recommend this tour and this hotel to others. I am a travel agent and will be recommending this hotel to my clients.

We stayed in a ocean view room for 4 nights and it was a great experience. Nice, warm welcome ,helpful and friendly staff, nice restaurant and a good massage service. It is slightly expensive but you do earn some good reward points! As a plus, they arrange for transportation to and from the Phuket pier at a reasonable cost.

Hotel is located outside central Phi Phi and the only chance to get away from the hotel is by taking a boat.

The hotel is quite old and the rooms need urgent renovation. The staff (as usual in Thailand) tries its best but is sometimes just not able. The price is very high compared to other (better hotel) in the region.

The rooms are old, small and not in the best condition. The oustside shower has seen better times as well. Hotel facilities are quite nice as usual in a resort but not much to do when staying at the hotel premesis. You have to plan day trips with boats or ferrys, which are also offered by the hotel for very high prices.

The breakfast which was included was nice and had a wide selection of local and international food. For dinner you can only choose between the very expensive sea food BBQ and the standard restaurant. The food is also good and the motto changes everyday, but it's not cheap at all, but you have no other choice.

The garden and pool areas are very nice, but i do not expect anything different from a resort in Thailand.

If staying one two nights, the Holiday in should be finde but not for longer than this, it could become very boring.

Dear Florian HH

Thank you for sharing your comments about our hotel.
As per the information on your review, I have noticed that you have stayed at our resort in November 2011 and I am glad to inform you that since then we have implemented different actions to improve our room product. We are currently on the first stage of re-tiling the bathrooms at the beachfront Bungalows and we are looking at finalizing this in the next couple of weeks.
With regards to the Food and Beverage offers, we have revised the prices since last year and although we are slightly higher than the local next door restaurant, our prices are in line with the other hotels on Laem Tong.
I hope you will an opportunity of returning to our hotel in the future and give us the chance of restoring your faith in our hotel. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly on carol.waller@ihg.com, should you wish to return.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

We just completed our stay at Holiday Inn Phi Phi Island. The beach is fantastic, the setting is exquisite. We particularly enjoyed snorkeling through the coral at low tide. The two ferry rides (from Krabi to Phi Phi, and then another from the Phi Phi pier to Holiday Inn) is a downer, but part of the price of going to a southern Thailand Island.

Why only three stars? Two main issues. The resort is understaffed at the restaurants. We had to wait several times way to long, like over thirty minutes to be acknowledged at our table. The food quality was OK, not excellent to western standards, but OK. The breakfast buffet was better than OK.

We were in a "Superior Deluxe Bungalow". The rooms are very very outdated. Think of the last time you saw parquet floors as a popular thing and it will help you date the rooms. Seriously, they badly need updating. Feels like the owner is milking it for all they can and not putting money back into the resort. There is a reason it is a Holiday Inn and not a popular flag like Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt. Holiday Inn doesn't have the high standards as the others. Holiday Inn doesn't seem to require rooms to be kept up with the times. And I paid as much for these rooms as I did for the five star Sheraton in Krabi. The staff was all very accommodating and friendly, just like every where in Thailand, but they need more help.

And watch out for bugs. We go eaten alive by mosquitos. My wife must have had 30 plus bites on her legs after one night at dinner.

We went on a two tank dive to some islands just south of Phi Phi. The dive staff was great, the dives were fun, the speed boat was fast, and the coral and sea life amazing. Visibility 80 -100 feet. Water temps really comfy. Used a shorty but didn't really need it. Saw a little school of lion fish. Quite cool.

So, Phi Phi is great, but for the same price the rooms just aren't as nice as in Krabi or Phuket, Your paying for the location, not the improvements.

Room Tip: I think there are some newer rooms on the south side. You should ask about them.

Dear Jcbrad

Thank you for sharing your experience at our resort.
Regarding your comments about our rooms, I would like to mention that Holiday Inn as a brand started in 2008 a 1 billion USD campaign to refresh all Holiday Inn hotels globally with the final stage completed at the end of 2011. During this time, our hotel acquired 32" LCD TVs, DVD players, new linen, new mattresses, new seating in the rooms, new bathroom curtains, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards, etc. Of course our aim has never been to stop there and I am glad to inform you that phase number one of our hard renovation project is well under way with 20 rooms having the bathrooms re-tiled. Before the end of the year, blackout curtains will be installed in 77 bungalows and we have appointed a new Chief Engineer, who is currently working on the planning of the second phase of this project.

Regarding the Food and Beverage experience, we recognize our current challenges, and we are working closely with the Food and Beverage Manager to have them rectified as soon as possible. We are also in the process of recruiting a new Executive Chef to improve our current food options.

I hope you will be able to experience our hotel in the future with all the renovations completed and an improved Food and Beverage service. I trust we will be given another opportunity to restore your faith in our hotel.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly on carol.waller@ihg.com if you require any assistance.

Overall the hotel is nice but very big, there are 2 pools, one is nice and the other is old and both are small.

The hotel is 35 min from the center and the only way to get there is by boat for 1000 baht.

The rooms are nice but not clean (we moved a few rooms) the shower is the same in all rooms and made me shower with shoes...

Food is a problem because there aren't many options there and it's not tasty, there are a few restaurants after the hotel on the beach which are better and chipper.

Dear Shantal e

Thank you for taking the time to write your review about our hotel.
We are sorry to read that you would not recommend our hotel.
Our hotel, as you rightly said, is located about 35 minutes from Tonsai pier which makes it the perfect location for a completely relaxed holiday. We do understand that if you were looking for night life or a more socially active setting our hotel may not have been the perfect place for your holiday.
With regards to the cleanliness of the bathrooms, our hotel prides itself from following regular checks on the quality and cleanliness of our rooms, hence I have sent you a private message for you to let us know which rooms were the ones you have stayed in for our Executive Housekeeper to take the necessary rectification measures.
We thank you as well for sharing your views on our current Food and Beverage offerings and are glad to inform you that we are currently in the process of recruiting a new Executive Chef to enhance our menu and food options.

On behalf of the management team, we thank you once again for your valuable feedback and hope that the actions we are taking will make you reconsider staying at our resort in the future.

Sunny regards

Phi Phi Island is the essence of an exotic destination, when you think at an exotic destination you probably think at a place like the beach in front of Holiday Inn of Phi Phi.

We spent there 12 days last August, the first 3 days we relaxed and got rid of all the stress of daily life, after 4 more days we started to think at what to do and the during the rest of our stay we just adapted to the local habit to do exactly nothing and just relax spending the day on the beach and eventually taking the boat to snorkel and see the sunset from the island in front of the beach.

The location is the best in Phi Phi Island, far from the too crowded town but not isolated. The beach is just fantastic in term of sand and color of the sea. I can spend your time under the trees with other guests at least 10 mt from you. At low tide you can even walk up to some corals where you will see colorful fishes swimming around you.

The hotel is basic but is comfortable enough for a place like Phi Phi. They are also developing it (maybe too much??) with some new rooms and so it will be improved in short time. Anyway also our room that was in the first phase was appropriate for a comfty beach vacation. Also the staff is nice, just what you can expect from a Thai destination.

The only drawback is in restaurants, even if the food is not bad they are a bit too expensive (but you can expect from a high standard hotel) and the real problem is waiting time. You sit down and you must be prepared to stay there for hours: they are just too long. At the end we spent most of our dinners in the jipsy restaurant close to the hotel. It is few meters from the hotel and it has a very nice atmosphere, good food and especially the service is quick.

Anyway we hope to be able to stay in this hotel again
