My friend and I booked this resort for a 6 night stay through a travel shop in Bangkok at a cost of 18000 baht and it looked stunning on the website. What a shock when we arrived at the pier for our transfer to be faced with a good 20 minute hike, initially through the little lanes of the resort and then up a steep path through what appeared to be a residential area which included piles of very smelly rubbish and stagnant pools of water. The level of steepness increased until we were met by a motorbike driven wagon to take us and our luggage up the final incline to the resort. At this stage, before we had even checked in, our hearts were dreading the thought of having to undertake this trek a couple of times a day to access the town and the beach. By this time it was 13.00 hrs and we were told by the sullen receptionist that we had to wait an hour before we could check in to our bungalow. My friend and I sat on the terrace, and despite the lovely view, had to admit that it simply wasn't an option for us to stay at this location with the steep hill, no lighting on the path and being faced with the rubbish tips and piles of old tyres (god knows where from as there are no cars on the island) every time we wanted to leave the resort. We asked the 'sullen' receptionist if we could come to some sort of compromise ie: we pay for two nights and get a refund for the other 4 nights as we would not be able to make the trip up and down the hill because of a knee injury. We were faced with a completely blank stare and told that under no circumstances was this an option. We reluctantly decided to bite the bullet and cut our losses and asked them to call the Anduman Beach Resort to check availability for our stay as my friend had strayed there previously. This they kindly did and then tried to get us to pay THEM for the hotel with an additional 5 percent credit card charge (it's 3 percent everywhere else). Obviously we refused and a poor young lad transferred the luggage to the another resort. This was an expensive mistake and we should have made sure to have checked Trip Advisor before confirming the booking; we would never have considered this resort based on the mainly poor reviews.
