“Tree house is awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2011

We stayed in the Treehouse here and it was so much fun! we had an awesome view and were right on a small beach. The location was great...not too close to the action but an easy walk to get to it (bring a flashlight). The food at viking was great, the staff was friendly, we loved our longtail captain from the hotel. Only negative was that at night you could hear the music from town until late. Otherwise perfect!

Nice decorated and naturel resort with some excellent rooms.
Room C4 is one of the best.
Good food in an extraordinary, really nice looking restaurant.
Great flowers, candels, decoration and good music also.
The beach is small and nice, the walk to town is not to much problems, about 25 minutes.
The staff in the restaurant is something for this resort to instruct, they are friendly, but they just don't know how to operate in the right way.
There are only a few broken wooden chairs on the beach in which you will get
backproblems!
If there were some nice lounge chairs on the beach i would think of return to this lovely place...

This was our first stop on our 6 week holiday. We loved the location, 20 min. walk to the town and partying but quiet and relaxing place to be. Able to also get to town by longtail; 100 BHT per person, 150BHT at night. Great Value on the Island. We met other travelers who were paying more for a room in the middle off the loud town center.WE stayed in a simple bungalow with shared bathroom, which we seemed to be only people using it. Everything was super clean. Small private beach and massage for 300 BHT. If you want a larger beach, Long beach, known as the best beach on the island, is only 5 min. walk. Food was okay a bit over priced, although they have a "tasting menu" at 7pm every night, which was great to wet our appetites for dinner. We mostly went to town and ate at local stalls, "Soda's" was our favourite, suggested by a local. Head straight off the pier about 50 meters down take a left. The thing we liked best was the staff at the Viking. Very freindly and helpful. Often played music at night and socialized with guests. Would stay again when we go back.

In advance of my arrival I contacted the resort via email and asked best method of arrival from the dock at Kho Phi Phi. No response. I walked/hiked through town and then a long heavy hike with luggage (following 3 other travelers going to same resort in same feeling lost situation). Finally upon arrival via land we pass cabins, more cabins, crazy steps, walk ways and horrible terrain. Reception desk & restaurant is at the last possible area - after you have passed most of the cabins, and walked up/down steep wooden steps w/out railing, through a beach, etc. I can't make up how crazy the terrain is... Staff was just nice but not overly helpful. After checking in we head back through the forested area up/down up/down past a beach, etc back to one of the first set of cabins - can't a reception area/person be stationed here or ANY SIGNAGE (like leave your luggage....). The beach is really nice, snorkeling from shore is good (fin/mask rentals avail at front desk), and the restaurant on site is good. The cabins are thin walled and you hear all your neighbors business at night. Once the area gets dark it is not well lit and challenging terrain.
My best advice - visit during the day and spend the day at the beach - have lunch but leave before dark. The cabins are cute, small but well appointed with oversized furniture. Hammock on the desk of the cabin is a nice touch. Biggest drawback is the terrain, and difficulty climbing over roots, rocks, etc. I'm a good hiker and this was a crazy maze (mostly unmarked) especially in the dark (actually dangerous). Nice idea but pass and stay someplace in town. PS - best way to access the resort is vial boat for 100 bhat each way. Finding a boat to take you can take some time.

Viking has a great idea in this eco resort, however someone needs to come in and clean house, first the staff needs to go and be replaced with those who want to work with the tourists. In my month in Thailand every other hotel I stayed in had wonderful, happy, helpful people, the Viking however had the most rude employees, if you want to order food you had better get your own menu and go up front to order, to eye rolling rudeness. The check in is a nightmare, everyone is fresh off the ferry so it is a rush to get to the reception where the line took us at least an hour and then again rudeness. Then once checked in two young men helped take our luggage to our room, and trust me almost no one can make it up the rocky path with their luggage alone, after they dropped our luggage, I tipped them and told them to split what I had tipped and they started laughing and mocking the split it comment, I am not a tightwad and believe in over tipping, anyway our room was cute, bathroom was fine except for no hot water, but no big deal it was very hot outside. There is alot of bugs and spiders and snakes but we expected that and had just come from Ko Phagnan so that did not bother us. The resort itself is very rustic and has a great beach out front, would have loved to just hang around there, but it just felt unfriendly, never a smile or an acknowledgement. I did however love the two longtail boat drivers from Viking, we hired both of them for different days of snorkeling and they were fabulous, this was the highlight of our trip, snorkeling around the island was fantastic and they were genually nice and caring. Also I believe her name is Tammy and she runs the tours at Viking, she did a great job in putting together a last minute snorkeling trip for us, including lunch that was great, she is super friendly, if there make sure to talk to her about a snorkel trip. This resort also needs to make their paths to the bungalows and the path to town a little more user friendly, I can't imagine how older people can make it around the grounds. One other thing was breakfast was included in my rate, and when we went to have breakfast the worker told me no it was not and made me sign a payment slip, you sign these for each meal etc., and then you are supposed to settle up each night, luckily I had a computer and pulled up my confirmation and showed the front desk and then no more breakfast problems. I heard another customer fighting with an employee in the restaurant and I guess this is a common practice here, so beware and have documentation for every charge etc. Also make sure what you are getting in accomodations, I thought I had a room with two beds, when we got there, there was one bed, they said they would bring another one in, so later that day the bed they brought was a tiny mattress or I should say pad that basically fits a child, we were three adults, they did however put a mosquito net around the mat on the floor. They said this is all they have for extra beds, the web site however leads you to believe that you get two regular size beds. Just beware when there, otherwise great location to town and great beaches, in a rustic, comfortable, no frills bungalow. I would recommend this hotel with a few words of warning.

we spent two nights at viking natures resort. the bungalows are lovely but be prepared for the basics: no hot water, no ac, bugs, rugged path to and from room.

the hotel offers a free tasting from their thai menu every night which is a great way to sample new dishes. the beach is small but very quiet and there is great snorkelling around the rocks. there is also free longtail pick up at the pier for guests. just ask around for the viking natures resort boat and they will point you in the right direction.

my only complaint would be about the service. one night our dinner order had not been submitted and our server continued to ignore our requests to check in with the kitchen (we ended up waiting an hour and a half). also, we booked our ferry tickets through reception - definitely go into town to do this! the hotel overcharges.

The hotel has invested considerable effort in amassing plenty of totem poles and orchid flowers to make the restaurant/lobby nice and the 'resort' occupies it's own beach. However the level of service from staff is poor and non-attentive, the bamboo bungalows are perched up on the cliffside with good views but via in places steep dirt paths accross tree roots, and were comparatively small and with separate toilet/bathroom meaning a trip outside to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The fan was adequate in the room (no AC) but there were no fans or AC in the restaurant area which seemed very hot by evening time. On the plus side the bed was comfortable and mosquito-netted. In summary, we felt poor for the price demanded (2500baht/night for superir room). Finally there were noisy long-tail boats rounding the corner just offshore from the resort from early in the morning to 11pm or later at night which wasn't great either and we had a cockroach in the bathroom.
