“You can get better value in Phi Phi”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2010

We paid £35 via Expedia i think there are better deals to be had in Phi Phi
Pluses : good swimming pool, nice staff very helpful, came to pick us up from pier to carter luggage (PLS give a tip to the boy who sweats so much getting the luggage from the pier all the way to your room !!), cheap laundry, internet, decorated our room as i had sent message that we were on our honeymoon
Minuses : bad sewerage smell, massive walk uphill and steps from the centre of town and pier (20m at least someone older / unfit will not be able to do it), far from the main action, stayed there three nights the beds were never made, outdated furniture and room, back door to balcony didn't lock, bathroom not so nice, there are bars not far away which pump music late in teh night
I hope you guys who are reading know what you are getting into with phi phi ? it's very good location to get to the islands around with great snorkelling but very busy touristy commercial.

Well we thought a few nights on Phi Phi would be a great day to end the holiday and let me say due to this hotel what a terrible let down. The room was over over over priced we booked over the net and when we arrived at reception they said we hadn't so we had to trek down the mountain again to print off a receipt to prove that we'd paid. The room stunk of sewerage and was even worse when you opened the bathroom door. There were 2 massive rocks in the bathroom that had to be jumped over/stood on to have a shower. We didnt get a sheet on our bed just a blanket that I wouldn't even get my dog to use. The noise travelled up from the town and was loud at night and the room wasn't cleaned any nights we were there. Let me say if your going on a nice romantic holiday with your partner the Ingupu is not a great place to stay, but if your holidaying with mates then its ok to crash at.
Definately not worth the money

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It makes 'Fawlty Towers' look welcoming and well run! We booked at the port when we arrived on the island and were told the price we paid (twice as much as other hotels) included breakfast. When we arrived the owner/manageress then argued that it didn't and even phoned the port and wanted me to speak to them, eventually we were given a ticket for breakfast. The room was 100 steps up from the reception and wasn't worth the hike. It wasn't clean, the bathroom was filthy and the bin still had rubbish from the previous guests. When we went down for breakfast the following morning we were told we couldn't have breakfast. They had changed their mind despite giving us a ticket the previous day. After another arguement we left and had breakfast in the town. We then saw the mangeress following us. She stalked around the town for about an hour!!! Stay Well Away!

Just stayed at Ingphu with a friend, and having just read all the reviews, I'd say they're pretty accurate.

Okay, the plusses: Really liked the staff - Chai & Tookie who pretty much run the place were very friendly and extremely helpful. The pool area very nice and clean. Rooms clean and beds comfy.

Minuses: Overpriced I'm afraid - even by Phi Phi's standards - but the real killer is the position. Our Travel Agent in Phuket described the positon of the bungalows as 'elevated' - well, brace yourself for the biggest 'step' class of your life, and for the oxygen masks to drop down in front of you! It is, without doubt, an outrageous hike up from the village just to reach the reception, and then a huge climb up wooden steps to reach your room. Not a great feeling in the 40 degree heat, so beware.

I have to agree, the view of the dried up resevoir is not what you expect to see from your Phi Phi bungalow window!

Phi Phi is very commercial -disappointingly so - overpriced and full of narcissistic, testosterone fuelled aussies who seemed to have little or no respect for the Thai people on Phi Phi. Sorry, but it's true. For that reason - I'm out!

However, the afternoon 'sunset' boat trip to Maya Bay was a total pleasure - and has to be done. Fantastiv value at 500 baht.

Ok. I liked the bungalow itself, but there are better deals I think. The staff is nice enough, but I think you have to get on their good side. We did, and it definitely backfired. A certain member of staff let themselves into our room late at night with the view to provide their services to us, whether paid or not, I don't know. I am not exaggerating I promise. We left the hotel a few hours later and checked into a resort far away on Phuket.

This isn't just the hotel's problem. The entire main village is full of sewage, filth, and I would definitely avoid staying anywhere there to be honest. Other hostels, resorts, etc. on more remote areas of the island will suit you better. Just walking through the areas near the hotel made me literally vomit, and I travel to some interesting parts of India where I don't get that reaction..

Let's put it this way: We pre-paid for 8 nights via a travel agency and left on our third night, and the island entirely. This place is not bad for a single traveller up for a bit of adventure, but that person should be aware that he will trek through raw and open sewage each and ever time he comes and goes, but actually the whole village is like that now so what is the difference?
