“Not so Grand Sea Resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

Booked up to stay here over the full moon period. You have to book for 4 nights to secure a room during this time which was not great. Overall the resort is very pretty and huts very cute and traditional from the outside. However the interiors are very basic on the inside which is typically Thai. I think some if the comments about the staff are unfair as any dealings we had with them were always pleasant and helpful. We was unhappy with the first room we were put into ad it was high up and I had hurt my leg they were happy to move us no problem. A lot of the staff that work on the grounds don't speak any English so this can be mistaken for rudeness. The pool and beach area here is really beautiful.
Wifi however is shockingly bad and didn't work at all for the 4 days we was here. Staff had no co from over this and suggested using the local Internet cafe, which was frustrating as the website advertises wifi and as the rooms are quite expensive you would expect this to work.
All in all not a bad place to stay rooms are basic for the price you pay but clean with good air con and complimentary water. Also a decent buffet breakfast is included in price.

We stayed at Grand Sea for 1 night only before Full Moon (23-24th of July) and it was awful experience.
Location is not good enough - too far from Haad Rin, and what is important, the location is not suitable for spending time in the hotel itself, so you obliged to spend 150-200 batt per person to escape from there. The coast is dirty and absolutely unsuitable for swimming.
Rooms are very basic (but it's normal for the region), but bed linen was really dirty. We had a hole in bed-sheet and large yellow stain. The air in room smelt moldy! Probably the reason was that the room was very close to swimming pool...
So our advice is to spend money on something less luxury-looking, but closer to Haad Rin.

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel for a few days over the June '13 full moon party period.

From the outside, this hotel looks more like a palace you'd see in the cities. It really is a nice building. However, inside it's a very basic hotel. Cheap bedding, push down taps (those you get in public toilets that automatically stop quickly) and a strange shower/bathroom which is more like a concrete shed attached to your room.

It's as if the hotel has changed ownership and gone into budget mode since being built.

The rooms are very spacious, the breakfasts are good, and the staff are very friendly and helpful, but you don't get the extras you'd expect for that price - in Thailand, at least.

Also a long, bumpy taxi ride to Haad Rin (100 baht each - don't pay more)!

We were on Koh Phangan for the full moon party and this property was just 5 - 10 minutes from the pier, which was nice, but far from where the actual party and town. The resort is very peaceful, with great oceanfront views and a nice pool area. The restaurant was just OK. We originally booked an ocean view bungalow but the bathroom was unacceptable with the shower literally hanging over the toilet and open shutters with ants and other bugs coming in to the room. We "downgraded" to a standard hotel room which was actually more spacious with a better bathroom situation.

Room Tip: Make note that the bungalows do not offer full bathrooms, with the shower head hanging over the toil...

Stayed here for 4 nights during the Full Moon Party period. We booked with Phangan Batik Services as part of the Full Moon Party package and the staff managed to upgrade us to the Grand Hill triple room as we had another friend joining us last minute and the room was definitely more than what we bargained for. Room was amazing and big, bathroom was huge, beds were comfy and the verandah outside the room was lovely to spend some relaxing time.

The room was facing the pool and we spent a few lazy afternoons and wee hours of jn the morning just relaxing by/in the pool and at the verandah. There was wifi at that area but connection wasn't stable. We were lucky that the other guests wasn't making too much noise and causing disturbance.

The only downside to this place is that it's quite far from the other areas. 15-20mins taxi ride to Haad Rin. Going to the Full Moon Party was fine but coming back after a whole night of partying will be quite a chore since most people will just want to straight bunk into bed immediately. But other than that, it'll be fine, rent a bike and see around the place.

Staff was definitely polite and helpful eventhough language was an issue but somehow we managed to pull through. It was nice of them to offer free taxi service to the pier, that was definitely a plus point.

My friends and I had an enjoyable stay here, an experience we will not forget.

Stayed here for 4 nights in February and we were really impressed with the hotel- vast surroundings, great location, facilities and staff! Very helpful and friendly staff :) We stayed here as we were interested in going to the Full Moon party on 26th but didn't want to stay anywhere near Haad Rin although we werent too far away. It was 100baht each for us to get to the full moon party and I'm pretty sure it was the same on the way back, but expect to share a taxi with a fair few people. This hotel is just down the road from Thong Sala town which is great for street markets and excursion bookings (Phangan Travel Centre), the hotel staff also offered to drop us into the town more than once. Ban Thai is also a short taxi ride away, roughly 50baht per person to get there, which was great for us as we had friends staying there.
Grand Sea Hotel is set on one of the prettiest beaches I saw in Thailand, so peaceful with hammocks and swings right on the beach! The food was great in the restaurant although some of the staff don't speak the best English and we didn't speak too much Thai so a few mix ups occurred! The rooms are basic but very well kept and cleaned every day. There are 2 pools, one with a pool bar and they are both fantastic!! Very large and very clean! I loved my stay here and would definitely go back again, the ladies on reception were a pleasure to deal with. My only advice for anyone looking to stay in Koh Phangan would be to invest in very strong insect repellant!! You'll be eaten alive here! :)

Room Tip: We were right by the swimming pool at the front of the hotel, not the best light in the rooms but A...

Stayed here for two nights with 3 other friends and our first thought was how good the hotel surroundings were and the excellent beach. However, the hotel is miles away from anything and a good 20 minute drive to Haad Rin beach where all the Full Moon action is. So, if you're heading to Koh Phangan for that, this is probably not the hotel for you. The rooms are also just average, nothing special and they are also just locked with a padlock which I guess wouldn't make most people feel completely secure. However, the rooms provide good air conditioning and a good shower and the quality of the beach and pool also make up for any inadequacies. But, being in such a distant location, you are also pressured to use the hotel restaurant which is good... when they get your order correct. The staff working in the restaurant did not speak good English, so it was often difficult to make an order.

Room Tip: Try and get anywhere near the beach as this is the main attraction of this hotel.
