“Under heavy construction!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2014

Watch out, this resort is under heavy reconstruction during the the rest of June! According to them (fine print of booking.com) it's mild renovations, however they are working with power tools from 08:30-17:00 (give or take), 7 days a week, like a circular saw an at a point even a jackhammer!
I fled the scene first thing in the morning after one night (June 8)
Don't stay there before the month is over!

We stayed here from may 18th till may 27th. We had a great stay. We got a good price on a beachfront bungalow, because there was maintenance going on in the boat restaurant (we knew about this upfront and it wasnt so bad...). The pool is beautiful and the beach has powder white sand. The rooms are spacious and clean with good airco. The beds were too hard for our taste, but that is common in thailand. Breakfast was sufficient, nothing special. Staff was friendly. If you go here, you should eat at the my way bar at the beach, great food and service! We are coming back next year!

This is the best place I've ever stayed. Without fear of contraddiction, everybody could enjoy all of these resort. The huge rooms, the interiors, the breakfast, Swimming pool is there only few meters form the sea. This is a quiet place ideal to recover from crowd city life.

We got a taxi to the resort from the pier, which took about twenty minutes. Where the resort is there are a few shops, a couple of restaurants mainly along the small Salad beach. You arrive to a welcome drink and they check you in and take you to your bungalow. WOW! Is all I can say. They are fantastic, well equipped, spacious, modern, clean…I could go on! The terrace overlooks the beautiful pool. Walk out and you're on the beach. The breakfast is wonderful in the panoramic restaurant. Unfortunately they were renovating this and it's a shame this will be moved to another part of the resort. The staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough for you. So friendly and welcoming. The food overall was good, and it was so nice to be able to look out to sea while dining. This was our favourite place to be on our holiday. We loved it so much and wish we could have stayed there longer. Definitely recommend GO GO GO!!!!!!!

We stayed her for 1 night in September 2013. It was my birthday so between 4 of us we rented the 2 bedroom villa with private pool. Between 4 of us it was £140 for the night and well worth it. When we arrived we received a huge fruit basket. It was excellent having our own pool we sat and had drinks by the pool at night. The hotel is on a lovely beach and because it was up north of Koh Phangan it was really quiet and peaceful. The manager let us keep the villa on a bit longer than normal due to our boat not leaving for Koh Samui until 4 the next day.

Room Tip: get the private villa with pool

My girlfriend and I came over from Hong Kong for spending some additional relaxing days in Thailand before flying back to Germany. We both visited already many places in the world and Thailand is one of our most beloved destinations. This time we chose Ko Phangan and checked in at Green Papaya Resort for one week. We took a Superior Bungalow next to the pool. Unfortunately, the rating of the Resort is very misleading. We mad a big mistake with our choice, but behind one is always wiser. Here are some of my critic points:

In general, the Resort is totally overpriced. According to the price level we expected a lot, and were disappointed. Also the laundry service and the restaurant were too expensive compared to better choices in the near neighborhood. The access to the hotel is a very bad unpaved road. The stuff is friendly beside the hotel manager. At first he tries to play the „best friend“ role, but shows rude manners as soon as problems appear.

The interior is very old and you can see at many places, that no effort is spend for maintenance and renovation (which is really needed!). Our plastic bath tube was damaged. The water pressure in the bungalow was a disaster (only water drops), so it was not possible to take a shower in the beginning. It was getting a bit better after I remembered the hotel manager again and again about our problem. There had been indefinable disgusting spots at the couch and the textile heading section of our bed. It looked like fungi and we tried to protect our heads with additional pillows. The room service happened every day but without changing any bedclothes during our complete stay (one week!). The Internet connectivity (free wifi) was extremely bad in the bungalows and made any further travel planning by Internet nearby impossible.

The breakfast was poor. Missing bred was often not refilled. The tee and coffee tasted bitter. But to be honest, sometimes it was relay entertaining to watch all the swarms of flies in and around the toast and the jam! About fifteen minutes before end of breakfast time, the stuff cleared already the breakfast supply even if you are still not finished.

At the end of my rating I also have to mention some plus points oft he Resort. The pool and the garden were very nice as well as the beautiful location at the beachside. But these points will not change my impression of the Resort considering the negative points and especially the price level.

In addition: be careful with renting a scooter in the neighborhood. Do not overhand your passport, if possible! We met guests from other hotels, who made really bad experiences with some rental offices. If they got your passport, they can charge you every single scratch with an absurd amount of costs. And you have to pay, if you want to get your passport back. So ask at your hotel reception and other tourists about reliable rental offices.

The bungalows are very sweet and private, although not the latest design highlight from within they are clean and comfortable. The garden is absolutely beautiful and the pool fantastic. The pictures don't lie! As it is a small hotel it feels very cosy and there is always space without being crowded even when fully booked. The beach is nice and much calmer, still touristy but in its boundaries. There are still plenty of restaurants to choose from and a few chilled bars. Staff was exceptionally nice we had a great stay. Price is relatively high for the lonelier corner of the island but still more than fair for what u are getting, it also includes a huge breakfast with lots to choose from. Only wish: a mosquito net on the doors and windows so you can have some light on in the evenings without being eaten alive.
