5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

It was a late honeymoon combined with a desperate need to relax and Santhiya has provided the perfect setting for both. We looked for an authentic Thai setting far from the madding crowd and certainly found it amongst the teak buildings - I actually like them going naturally grey and blending into the hillside - fantastic natural landscaping that provides intimity and a jungle setting embellished with orchids and flowering plants and trees everywhere. (They even sweep up the fallen leaves amongst the bush growth) . Do use the lotion provided in every room and bathroom to protect guests against mosquitoes, for which they also fumigate when necessary. I never heard a guest complaining about their room/villa and we have loved "the rock" room and its view over the beaches. In fact the calmness rubs off on its guests so effectively most people talk in lowered voices.
The staff are truly lovely, smiles and gentleness everywhere; no need for us to give our room number to the little wooden taxi drivers, they soon worked out where we were, the food is copious and well cooked, and the entertainment staff more than happy to serenade you with your favourite song over dinner, thank you Pinkie and her guitarist. The young lady who plays traditional thai music at breakfast every day is like an exquisite doll.
Perhaps a little difficult in access for the less mobile, because there are lots of steps and the beach next door requires a short rock climb, and this is the easiest way to the village.
The village is basically two/three streets and you have direct access to the beach at the head of the "main street". We preferred "noi" beach to "yai" beach, but each to his own. Don't come expecting hot night life and you won't be disappointed, this really is chill out territory with enough good restaurants to keep you happy - and we have been here two weeks.

Room Tip: The rock room is beautiful, if you prefer your own pool go for a pool villa - our swedish friends lo...

Amazing hotel. On learning it was our honeymoon they upgraded us to what was the most stunning room I have ever stayed in (supreme deluxe with pool access), right at the top of the resort with direct access to a stunning infinity pool with loungers set into it on little boats. All the teak carving, the comfy daybed on the balcony, the incredible bathtub and shower, the comfiest bed... so fabulous. The whole resort was beautifully designed and impeccably landscaped. If I was being really picky I'd say it could do with a little TLC with regards to re-laquering the woodwork on decks, sun loungers etc (such a small thing but would make a world of difference to the overall 'polish' of the resort and make it truly perfection).
The service on arrival was impeccable (I think his name was Zahid - we tried to find him to thank him before we left but didn't see him again. A great welcome though!) The service by F&B staff could be better - when on sunloungers or on the thai cushions on the beach we had to work hard to catch someones eye each time we ordered a drink. They could just be a bit more pro-active in coming round and keeping an eye on guests turning up or when glasses are empty. We only ate there once other than breakfast (which was fabulous, with an excellent Thai musician to entertain while you ate!), preferring to take a stroll over the rocks to the next beach along and the little village (where you can get excellent cheap food with a game of jenga or cards at Jip shop and the best massages incredibly cheaply at the place next door to this). Overall, a brilliant stay. Just be careful not to lose your key! We did, sadly, and were charged 2000 baht for it (about £40, or our budget for an island snorkelling trip for 2 which was a shame) but I suppose maybe they had to change the lock or something... I would go back and I would recommend to anyone - especially for a romantic honeymoon!

Room Tip: Pay extra if you can and go for a supreme deluxe or even better supreme deluxe with pool access. Stu...

Santhiya Koh Phangan is beautifully located on a jungle hillside away from the most developed parts of the island of Koh Phangan. It felt like paradise coming here from busy Koh Samui which was a bit too overdeveloped for our taste. Santhiya's fairly isolated location is not an easy find in Thailand today.

The resort itself is divine with gorgeous gardens, woodcarvings and lanterns. The amazing view over the beach, ocean and jungle should also be mentioned. The pool area is large enough for all guests and the pool itself gives a feeling of paradise with waterfalls, huge stones and buddhas. It seems like the waterfalls contribute to cooling down the pool which was amazing - too many pools in Thailand are so hot that you barely sense a difference in temperature when entering. Allthough Santhiya is a huge resort it does not give a commercial vibe - it rather feels like a genuine Thai paradise. The hotel beach is a bit stoney, but one minute walk or kayakpaddle away lies one with supersoft sand.

The breakfasts were amazing with everything you could ask for. I was not blown away by the Thai buffets, but mye boyfriend loved them. Desserts were not too good, but we enjoyed eating a la carte at the idyllic beach restaurant.

In general we have always experienced great service when travelling in South East Asia, but the service at Santhiya certinly was out of the ordinary. When we found out that we had forgotten our computer charger at our previous hotel on the neighbouring island Koh Tao, the personell made sure that we had it in our room the next day even though it required more than one hours driving and two hours by boat to get it there. All of this at no cost for us.

The only (and minor) con I can think of is that the bathroom got a bit flooded when showering.

We also recommend using the speedboatservice as this is the easiest way of transportation from/back to Koh Samui and also a quite fun ride with gourgous views.

All in all Santhiya truly feels like paradise. If you are looking for a special and secluded place to stay in Thailand, look no further.

We stayed in a pool villa at Santhiya at the end of our Thailand holiday and didn’t want to leave! The villa was private and luxurious, with awesome views over the bay, and was an incredibly special experience.

A few notes….
The rooms are all set on the hillside, so require a bit of a walk, or you can get free transport whenever you call for it.
The pool is great, with peaceful views.
There is a small private beach at the hotel that isn’t the best place for swimming – but you can walk across to the main Thong Nai Pan beach, which is fantastic.
As to be expected the hotel restaurants are quite pricey, but if you walk to the main beach there are a couple of other options of places to eat to change things up, so you’re not stuck with having to eat at the same 2 hotel restaurants constantly. The breakfast buffet is great!

A Santhiya pool villa is a fantastic and memorable place to celebrate a special occasion.

Everything was just wonderful! We truly felt in paradise. The resort is beautifully set on a jungle hillside by the fairly isolated Thong Nai Pan beach on Koh Panghan. We were upgraded to a villa with private pool by the wonderful guest relations manager, Mary Jane. It was just amazing with a large pool, outdoor bathroom and a spacious villa suite in traditional Thai style. The service was just great from A to Z. I found the prices okay. They are higher than in the village but not outrageous and it is still much cheaper than in Europe. The village is easy to reach by the larger beach next door and you should def head over to the larger beach and the village during your stay. Dinner at Jip Shop in the village (looks modest but is amazing) and massages at Tanaporn (many names and words in Thai end with -porn but there is nothing sleazy to them. Book Tanaporn days in advance as they are popular while modestly priced. It can be difficult to go on tours from this resort so plan these from the moment you get there or just relax and stay at the resort. We didnt get bored. I can highly recommend this resort. The other two major resorts at this beach did not look nearly as nice as Santhiya. Santhiya is simply a piece of paradise but probably mostly for adults. The deluxe building with rooms has a beautiful pool just in front of it. Otherwise there is a huge pool area with a waterfall by the beach. The hotel has a private beach and a small path (lit at night) leads you to the larger white sand beach next door. Walk 5-10 minutes along this beach and you arrive at the village.

Room Tip: Some sea view rooms have limited sea view but these are often more secluded which can be nice when y...

Myself and my wife stayed here for 6 nights in January 2013 for the first week of a two week honeymoon in Thailand. From the airport pick-up right through to the transfer to another hotel in Koh Samui, for our second week, we have never been treated better or had a nicer stay anywhere. We would highly recommend this resort for honeymoon couples.

We were met at Koh Samui airport by a very friendly member of hotel staff with cold scented towels and ice cold bottles of water (NOTE you need to go to main entrance of airport and take a left towards taxis and coaches. I don't think the hotel pick ups are allowed near the main entrance and the airport staff were not overly helpful in directing us). Within minutes we were in a Santhiya van on the way to the speedboat. Within minutes of arriving at the pier we were on the speedboat to the hotel - approx 30min trip. The speedboat can usually drop you off directly at the hotel beach but that day we were dropped at a neighboring beach with 10min car trip to hotel. All staff friendly and efficient through out.

Upon arrival we were directed into the hotels beautiful main restaurant where there was cold refreshing fruit drinks waiting for us and an amazing view of the bay. We got a few words of introduction from the friendly manager and within minutes we were told our room was ready. By far the nicest check-in we have ever experienced. We were taken to our room in a wooden 'buggy' (small vans with benches in the back to taxi guests around the resort). Depending on where you are in the resort you may or may not need to use these. We were at the very top of the resort and although the walk down was manageable the walk up is quiet steep and not very comfortable in that heat and humidity. The buggys are available 24hours a day and can get to anywhere in resort within a minute or so.

We stayed in a Sea view pool villa suite plus - Villa 606. Amazing room, amazing view! As with all tropical resorts insects and lizards are in abundance but did not over shadow the stay. The shower is outdoor but secluded. The toilet is also outdoor but sheltered.

Overall the food was very good and a lot better than some meals we got on the neighbouring beach. They had buffet dinners several nights during the week. Some of the buffet dishes were a little disappointing. The a la carte food was very good and breakfast was ok. The desserts were not good except for the mango mousse dream.

We went on a trip to the Angthong National Marine Park organized by the hotel. The trip had its pros and cons - see my review on Angthong National Marine Park for more info.

The location is quiet remote with a small village and stretch of beach a short walk from the resort. The resort was so nice in comparison we found it difficult to leave. There is no nightlife at the resort, with it pretty much shutting down when the restaurant closes at about 10:30. Being a honeymoon couple this wasn't a big deal for us but may be for others.

Overall an excellent honeymoon stay in a beautiful well managed resort.

Room Tip: Villa 606 is an amazing room with an amazing view. It's a bit of a hike up to it though and afte...
