“okay stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2009

After staying here back in 2006 I was happy to come back to this resort.

The pool area is still lovely and I like the rooms and it's good value for money.

The only complaint I had was the restaurant staff. They were terribly under staffed and I felt like we were a PAIN. We didn't get the good service that we were able to get every where else. The meals also didn't come out all together, so one person would get theirs and 10-15 mins later the next meal would come out!

Other than the restaurant the staff were really helpful, the tour desk lady and front desk girls were kind and caring.

If you can get over the restaurant and eat elsewhere I would still recommend this hotel. It really is a nice quiet peaceful resort.

what can i say... rude staff, basic rooms, showers with no water pressure ( imposible to wash hair) and hot water runs out after 2 minutes and horrible breakfast, only good thing was that it was clean.
In my opinion very over priced there are better hotels in the area for cheaper.

We travelled to Koh Phangan and stayed here after strong recommendations from a friend. We were a little disappointed...the photos did not really match the actual thing. The hotel appears a little run down and shabby but the staff - with the exception of the front desk receptionist- were very friendly and helpful.
Our room was clean and spacious but our internet connection - 300baht a day- was very unreliable and we were told that a technician would be with us in 20mins but we waited all day.
The beach out the front was very very dirty and uninviting. Needs to be cleaned up.

Having read all the other reviews (thank goodness I didn't see them before we went) it has made me remember some of the negative points of the hotel, neverless it was still my favourite part of the holiday... and we stayed in some fantastic places & hotels all over Thailand.

The best parts of the hotel were definately the location and the staff:

We'd already visited Bangkok, Chainag Mai, Kanchanaburi and Koh Samui, but Phan gan was by far my favourite place, so beautiful & peaceful.

We spent our afternoons laid by the pool which is right on the beach, surrounded by views of the sea and Samui on one side and the tree clad mountains on the other, sipping on fresh fruit cocktails watching the amazing sun set - they don't call it Sunset Beach for nothing!

The staff, inparticular the male night receptionist and the male restaurant manager (i assume) were fantastic. So friendly, helpfull and full of useful and honest information about where we should and shouldn't visit and what to do in the evenings.

The room was nice enough, it was a shame that we'd just come from the most beautiful room in Samui, it would have struggled to match up.

It's worth taking in to account that the whole charm of Phan gan is that it is not totally commercialised like Samui! Remember you're on a tiny island in Thailand not in a major city, it's supposed to be away from it all and a little basic, that's why you wanted to go there. If you go with this knowledge you will not be disappointed.

The resort was beautiful, the room was small but clean, had a nice sized balacony, the air con worked a treat, we had a mini bar, tv and computer (altho in room internet access was a little expensive) the only real negative was that the shower was a bit naf, there was more water on the floor than on me, but we had plenty of hot water though which is not always the case in Thailand!

Haad drin beach (location of the shops, nighlife and the famous Full Moon Party) is at most 10mins walk away, perfect if you're looking for peaceful days but fun filled nights. A taxi home cos about 100baht (approx £1.80)

If you're looking for commercialised perfection this probably isn't the hotel for you, in fact this probably isn't the island for you - but if you want to peace and quiet and to be surrounded by beautiful views, waited on by friendly staff and be close enough to the night life to party every night then it's perfect.

I'd go back without any hesitation x

Stayed at this hotel in March 2009, after it was recommended to us by a friend. Hotel is in great location about 5-10 mins walk from Haad Rin beach so far enough away to get away from noise of full moon. the hotel has 2 pools (one which is quite shaded the other practically on the beach). It also has an onsite massage parlour had one massage there which was great but alot more expensive than the other massage places outside the hotel. Breakfast wasnt great was quite cold if you didnt get there for the first servings. Overall very nice hotel would definatly go back there again, polite and helpful staff, clean rooms, and nice pool etc
