“Great, but expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2006

We stayed here in the summer, and overall the place is very luxrious. We stayed in a deluxe cottage which is separate from the main hotel, the room is fantastic - traditional decor and spacious. Full sized balcony with a table and sunbeds. So the room is fantastic.

The facilities of the hotel are good - nice pool, good size - they have a few different ones, which is nice depending on what sort of mood you're in - they have a jacuzzi which is relaxing.

The breakfast is good - nice variety but usual buffet stuff you'd expect.

The bad news is the place is so overpriced its ridiculous. The restaurant on the beach is sophisticated, and the meal was excellent (in terms of service, presentation and taste), however it was probably double the price that we paid during our time in thailand - having said that it was still cheap compared to uk! Both the bar and the mini bar prices are very high.

The good news is that you dont have to eat and drink at the hotel - get to the beach restaurants - they are all fantastic - walking up the beach the first place is a hostel type place and has a restaurant and bar and if you wander around you find a little network of restaurants and bars - all that we ate at were fine. Prices are less than the average thai prices - so eat here and sleep at the hotel. We also ending up buying a load of beers from the supermarket and taking them back to the fridge - which worked fine....

Its a bit steep in places, but come on - if you eat and drink as much as we did - take the excercise!!!!

we loved this place so much more than had rin, this is a great place with enough to do, enough luxury and plenty cheap options as well!

Overall - recommended !!!

Access to the two bays which are either side of the hotel is very poor. You can only get to one beach by wading through the sea at low tide or by taking a long walk round and the other bay can only be accessed by a 2 Km hike on steep and uneven dirt track.

We did take a long walk around through a village to get to one of the bays once but I was bitten by one of the many stray dogs that are around so we stayed in the hotel grounds after that. Access to the hotel from the port is an uncomfortable 45 minute truck ride on a very bumpy and steep dirt track.

Our Deluxe Villa was lovely and quite quirky and the food and pool there were good but we did feel trapped in.

just checked out from the Panviman Resort in Koh Phagnan on the 26th Oct 06. Stayed there for Five Nights. I like the peace and quiet like the next person but i couldn't wait to leave.
Hotel is way over priced. The journey to the hotel is an experience to behold. 45 Min in 4x4 Jeep in the worst roads on earth. especially if it rains which it will. They say they have access to the beach again this depends on whether it rains and their path is blocked off, otherwise you have 20min walk all around the town to get to main beach. There is about 3 grocery shops, thats it. NO CLOTHES shops etc, unless you want to pay 800 baht to go to the main town in taxi which again is 45 min on dirt roads.
The Hotel is Really anti disabled. they do not cater for wheel chair or elderly people. Its on a mountain. Steep hills even to your room, they have golf buggies for the staff not the guests.......

The only thing i would give it the thumbs up for was the food, service and swimming pool. The staff were lovely.

Thumbs down on all round prices and accomadation. far too expensive. Rooms were really old fashioned. its the middle of nowhere. Biting alive there too. The beach wasn't exactly the cleanest either and it was full of stray dogs.

I would say this to you, if its sun bathing and a book all day by the pool, then this is the place for you,

The hotel is very isolated and it is difficult to leave the resort, but if you are only interested in sitting by a nice, relaxing pool, then you may not mind. Once you have braved a long walk across the water, or down a VERY steep hill, the village is quite small but does offer some good massage places and restaurants, but is not a great location for shopping.
The rooms have gaps between the outside doors and windows that allow a lot of mosquitoes to enter your room at night, and the odd roach or ant can be seen, but other than mozzies at night, there is not a real bug problem.
As for the hotel restaurants, they do not offer much in the way of vegetarian food, and the breakfast (which is included) will leave you eating nothing but toast.
