I visited Hard Road Cafe back in April, when it was the beginning of the slow season, the dorms were yet to be built, and Hard Road did not yet have a name. After several weeks in Thailand, I was craving pizza, and owner Jeremie had no trouble whipping us up a fantastic amalgam of cheese, bread and sauce. His homemade banana infused rum and the large outdoor projector screen on which we watched futbol together are some of my fondest memories of the five days my boyfriend and I spent on Koh Phangan. Visiting at the end of April was a bit strange, the whole island felt oddly like a ghost town, but Jeremie has this wonderful ability of making you feel right at home, even when you are thousands of miles away, In my six weeks of travel in Southeast Asia, I did not find a proprietor who reached out and truly cared about my experience on the island in the kind and helpful was that Jeremie did. The space at Hard Road was enormous, beautiful, and new, and though I have not seen the newly renovated space, I can guarantee that it is phenomenal. Just read the many positive reviews that precede mine. :)
