“thoroughly disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

on our trip around Thailand, this was the most expensive hotel in which we stayed, so we were expecting big things! however, we were met with a series of disappointments. Our room, despite our long in advance booking, seemed to be the worst in the whole place... There was a hole in the ceiling through which I could see the sky, and the bathroom was literally concrete floored, with bamboo sticks substituting a window giving the whole thing an extremely unpleasant feel.
The staff continually messed up orders of food and drinks despite our clear communication, and we were even charged on several occasions for food which we never consumed which was clearly another persons bill...this caused several disputes as the staff were extremely difficult. The food in itself was really horrendous.
The pool had "death nails" - in their own words - all around on the decking which clearly hadn't been properly constructed or finished.
There are several hotels in koh Phagnan with better locations and standards for cheaper prices, unfortunately we were convinced by their website and as a result had an extremely regrettable stay.

My wife and I stayed here as part of an extended budget vacation in Thailand June 2013. Initially we were very impressed as the resort ground are very nice, clean, and really give you the sense of an island feel. The restaurant is fairly overpriced with cocktails costing around $160 bhat = $5 USD; beers around $80 bhat = $2.75 USD; and food around $200-300 bhat = $7-10 USD which is tourist pricing for Thailand in my opinion. However, the service is great in all aspects. The pool is infinity style facing out towards the ocean which is very shallow about 200 yards out and prone to drying up at low tide. The basic bungalow rooms are nice, bed comfortable, hot shower, safe, amoire, TV (cable is very limited), and wifi (worse I have had since being in Thailand). If you pay for the most basic room, they will be connected via doors which wouldn't be much of a problem except you can hear everything going on next door. Two nights of four our neighbor brought home a Thai woman that was apparently drunk, very angry, and very loud at 3 am. Even with quiet neighbors next door the walls are thin so expect some noise and lack of privacy with the cheaper bungalows. Pay a little more and they aren't connected. Rooms cost about $30 USD including taxes/night. Motorbike rental onsite for $200 bhat/day = $7 USD and you must surrender your passport as collateral. Take pics or videos of bike as malicious claims against tourists is apparently a widespread problem and if they have your passport you are pretty much screwed. Cannot bring in outside food or drinks or the resort will charge you a fee as stated on their signs in the room, although it didn't seem enforced from what we could tell. Hotel is walking distance to main town of Thongsala and pier to Koh Sumui, Koh Tai, etc... After four nights the rate went up to $40 USD night so we moved about blocks down to the Lime and Soda which is better in my opinion. Good luck!

Room Tip: If you can afford it, pay a little more for a deluxe bungalow to avoid any discomfort associated wit...

Wasn't great wasn't bad. I stayed in both the Villa and standard bungalow. We only stayed in the Villa because my friend and I made a mistake on our reservation and weren't booked until the day after we arrived. We didn't feel like going all the way to another hotel to come back the next day so we booked the very romantic Villa (the only room they had available for the night) which ended up being kind of funny. The bed was a cali king and super comfortable. There was a private-ish porch area with a hot tub/plunge pool. Not that we cared, but it wasn't filled with water when we went to the room though they did fill it up a few hours later (not by our request). If I was in the market for something romantic I'd probably look elsewhere. The beach there isn't that great and neither is the pool. The grounds staff were super friendly, but the front desk ladies not so much. Breakfast was good and we did make friends with some cool people there. All in all I'd say its a good crash pad if you're going for the standard bungalow with your friends and don't want to be near all the craziness.

We were in Koh Phangan over the fullmoon party week and therefore booked well ahead of time. We were looking for a place on the beach with a pool and bar that was away from the excessive rabble of Haad Rin. B52 is perfectly situated on a beautiful beach between Tongsala and Baan Tai. The pool is beautiful and the bar is right in the pool with a great selection of drinks including the most reasonably priced, decent South African wine we have found in Thailand.

The restaurant is amazing! One of our group had the red prawn curry more times than days we were there. Everything else on the thai menu is brilliant. Dont bother with the western menu though. Expensive and substandard.

The pool area and bar is busy most of the afternoon and into the evening, but does go quite at around 10pm, which was well appreciated when we needed to recover from some rather heavy nights out on the island.

We highly recommend the massage therapy here. The ladies are the best we found in Thailand and are a small fraction more costly than the places on the street. They will setup on the beach, by the pool, on your verandah or in your room.

We booked the Big Villa which is directly on the beach (the only bungalow directly on the beach). It was very well appointed, clean and very comfortable. The sea and pool were foot steps away. The room is a very decent size, however the photos on the website did make us believe that the resort and the rooms were a little more spacious. For the price we paid there is quite a bit in the area, but for what we were looking for this was perfect and we didnt see anything on this side of the island that was significantly cheaper. We did not want a place with 100s of 20 year old getting wasted every night.

One suggestion: Get a scooter! It will make your stay on Koh Phangan that much more enjoyable. B52 is a decent walk from the markets and shops so a scooter made it easy to get around and exploring the island on a scooter was very rewarding.

If you want to be more secluded then look north to places like Haad Son.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of March. The room (garden villa) was great - very spacious, with all the usual amenities you would expect (air con, mini-bar/fridge, shower room, etc). The staff were friendly, especially Kevin, the South African... I want to say "barman" but that would do him a disservice - he was the welcoming committee, guide, super friendly, all-round good guy. Breakfast at the was resort was excellent, food & drink prices reasonable and the pool was always clean. The hotel sorted out our scooter rental (we didn't want to leave passports with the scooter guy, but they negotiated that we could leave them in the hotel safe). Free transfer to the full moon party which was a great bonus, and our washing was done for little more than it would have cost had we taken it into town.
The only downside was our own fault really - I hadn't realised how close it was to the Pier, so when our transfer from the harbour insisted on waiting for passengers from the next boat (30 minutes sat in the back of the truck waiting), I didn't realise it would be less than a 5 minute stroll around the corner!
Location is really good, a little bit tucked away from the "touristy" bit but close enough that you're not out in the boondocks.
Would stay here again, and would recommend it to friends.

The hotel is ok. Rooms are basic but clean. Staff don't speak much English except for one staff member. Pool is great, view is excellent. Lots of stray dogs and cats walking around. Good food and big menu. At the end of our stay when we checked the food and drinks bill there were a lot of items that we didn't order, I think this is due to the language barrier. We didnt have to pay so that's alright. The hotel wasn't at the pier when we arrived and transport to the full moon party was later in the evening. Hotel is quite far from the main action and taxi can take up to 30 minutes. Overall a good stay, very basic facilities though, English lessons for staff would help a lot!!!

Gorgeous little bungalow with a snug terrace area outside them , overlooks a secret little paradise :)
My boyfriend and I loved it here! Everyone makes you feel so at home!
The friendliest staff!! And so helpful!
Food in restaurant is great and not too overpriced!! Cocktails are nice and strong!! Beach is nice place to watch sunsets! Rent a bike from reception (4€ a day) and visit all the beaches around! That's how we found our next accommodation. Book online !
We loved this place so much. We stayed in the standard bungalow and found it perfect!
Highly recommended!
