“stayed a week, it was nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

We stayed at Dakanda for a week, and we did like it.

Location is in Thong Sala along the beach, which means it's about 5-10min walk into Thong Sala and a trip anywhere else. You really need to factor in getting a scooter if you stay here. And it's not the kind of resort that you would just stay here all day. Nice place, but it isn't luxury pools and dining everywhere.

The wifi was very stable form the rooms, about 300KB/s. But your mileage might vary from the villas which are further away from reception.

The pool was great because as many might comment, the beach itself is incredibly pictureque, but also very shallow. The pool is nice and deep.

The rooms are all quite spacious. The rooms above reception are well equiped, and all have their own balcony space with chair and table. All rooms have aircon, bar fridge, free bottled water and tv. The rooms furniture is all concrete built into the room.

The tap water smells of sulphur, which I assume is from ground water. This is perfectly common but rotten egg smells every time you turn on the water might be unpleasant, but completely harmless...

Breakfast was fair.

Room B14 is centered above the walkway to the beach, so it is the only room that will actually have a beach view, the others are blocked by the banana trees.

There are also villas are much bigger, but the bathroom areas are not enclosed with a cieling. So it's not that pleasant and only a couple villas at the very front can see the sea. But your privacy is so very low, you might end up keeping your blinds closed.

Staff were a tad too casual, friendly, but not entirely professional.

Room Tip: Villas are less likely to have decent wifi coverage, also have minimal privacy since they are on the...

This was the worst place I ever stayed. To start off the hotel is in the middle of nowhere and you have to take a $5 cab ride every time you want to go somewhere. My room was gross mainly because of smell. It smelled like mold. The room was okay looking but the cement bathroom is creepy and gross. The shower has no pressure too. After one horrible day there I left and went to another resort. They wouldnt refund any money even though I wouldn't be staying there. The worst part is that it's expensive compared to places that are so much nicer. This is really the first time I have ever been extremely disappointed with a hotel or resort.

This staff became like a family to my friend and I who had stayed here for 3 days. Reception are very accommodating & knowledgeable.. The resort is walking distance from the shopping district (more like a market district) & the staff were happy to organise transport for those going to the full moon party, some of the staff actually attended with us which was amazing! Would stay here again for sure!

Room Tip: Stayed in the double villa.. Amazing..

The beach cannot play. Landscape view just ok. Very poor in service cannot even ask for another towel, using bad voice to customer. Not recommended !!!!!!!

We found slugs and cockroaches crawling out of the uncovered drainpipes in the bathroom. It was the dirtiest bathroom we have ever had the misfortune of using. Staff were lazy and unhelpful, there seemed to be no management of the resort. Pool was dirty and we only used it once. Breakfast was horrible, fruit was old and bread was stale. There were issues with the wifi and which made the Internet unusable for most of our stay.

The positives were that we had a large room (we stayed in a "deluxe" bungalow), didn't have any noise issues and the location was convenient for walking to Thong Sala.

Please note there plenty of much nicer places to stay in Koh Phangan that are close to the beach for a similar price!

Room Tip: Bungalows in middle of the resort seemed to quieter. The most luxury ones are closer to the pool and...

I had a standard room for a night. I was dissapointed in the room, especially for the price, as I sat on the bed a cockroach ran out from the bed covers. As I inspected the bed the bed sheet covering the blanket was a bit damp and there was a lonesome cockroach leg on it. I also found another cockroach leg on the mattress sheet. Leaves me to wonder for the rest of the night where the rest of the cockroach is.
Other than this factor.. the hotel is average & staff were helpful.

We stayed here as a couple in April 2012. We booked this room to stay during the Full Moon Party, as it was one of the few places that does not demand that you stay there for a minimum of 5 nights. We didn't see much of the surrounding area as we were only here for a short period of time.

The room was the worst part. Although not terrible, it had definitely seen better days. The entire room was made from concrete, including the bed, chairs, tables and the entire bathroom(reminiscent of a prison cell). There were insects crawling around the headboard of the bed and because the bed was a permanent fixture we couldn't even move the bed to avoid the bugs. Also the room smelled strangely of Turnips. We were staying in one of the cheaper (but still quite expensive in my opinion) rooms above reception. I think the beach huts looked far more impressive and would recommend booking one of them if you decide to stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful and assisted in getting us a transfer to the pier and also a taxi to the full moon party for only 100 THB per person.

The pool was small but nice and being right on the beach definitely makes for some impressive holiday photo opportunities, although the sea is extremely shallow. The bar/restaurant was hit and miss, I had a nice club sandwich but my girlfriend was less than impressed with her pizza. Also with the hotel being on the quieter side of the island I can't recommend anywhere else to eat as there was very little nearby.

Overall we liked the resort but the room was a let down.

Room Tip: Splash out and get the beach cottage as the cheaper rooms in the main building have sorely seen bett...
