“Amazing amazing amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the Baan Manali for 5 nights end of July and had the most amazing time! The resort is beautiful we could not fault one thing, within a short stroll to town where they have lots of shops and a great food hall, there is also a night market held every saturday night which is a must do.
The bungalows are beautiful clean and cosy, the restaurant food was gorgeous with a great choice to choose from our little boy loved the Nutella pancakes, the pool is fantastic and has a lovely view over the well maintained beach area, all of the staff were very helpful and friendly especially the owners and there children who our son loved playing in the pool with. Would 100% recommend to anyone and we will most certainty be going back.

We booked this place for our final night on the island as it was very close to the pier. Having spent over double what we had done on our last accommodation we had high hopes. The bungalow was very nice but the beach next to it was slightly disappointing, however what frustrated us most about the place was the no food past half five on the Friday evening which meant we had to wander into the local town for dinner which kind of defeated the idea of a last relaxing evening in one place. Also despite telling the staff we were leaving very early in the morning they did not give us any further instructions on the check out process for this time of the morning and so we discovered everything locked up and we had to go knock on the staff quarter doors until someone woke up and could check us out-not ideal for us or them, overall a disappointment for what we paid

Dear Leelee83

We apologize for the inconvenience about your check out.
We usually inform the guest about the process of the check out during check in. It is certainly an oversight from our team.
We also put the reception working hour on the information about the hotel on booking.com , on the rule of the hotel (who appears on the guest room), and on the information board at the reception.

Regarding our beach, our staff put a lot of effort to clean it every day for 3 to 4 hour. In the hope to satisfy our guest with a clean beach.
As you certainly read on other review before you choose to book with us, it is true that this period of the year the tide is low during the day and high at night.
Unfortunately we do not have any power on it.
That is why; alternatively, we build a pool 1.5 month ago.

Our restaurant closes not one day, but one evening per week. Unfortunately you could not enjoy it because of your short stay.
But you did not have to go so far to find something to eat.
Our direct neighbor has a restaurant on the beach very nice. Less than 5 meter from our hotel.

Thanks for your review. We will ask our staff to be more careful about the information they provide during the check in.

Baan Manali, in short, is a beautifully secluded resort on the beach-front, run by the equally as brilliant Sebastian and his wife. It's a really serene place in between the hustle and bustle of Koh Phangan, which is known for being a party island. You can order a taxi and be only ten or twenty minutes away from all of the involvement (costing only 100 baht each), but can get back in and be in one of the most beautiful hideaways imaginable.
Every staff member here endeavoured to be as helpful as possible, and it was absolutely refreshing. Facilities included some bloody brilliant Air-con, a lovely new pool, and Jim, one of the most pleasant human beings we met our whole holiday.
Jim has got to be one of the funniest, most cheerful, most honest, and most delightful people you could ever meet in Thailand, and he really did make our journeys that bit better upon meeting him. He would endlessly work towards keeping us happy, keeping our drinks filled, and keeping the conversation flowing and Baan Manali can be incredibly proud of having this asset within their business.
If I am ever back in Koh Phangan, this is where I will be staying!

This was a 2 night stay prior to our return ferry to Koh Samui. We arrived here having just checked out of the 5* Santhiya Resort & Spa in the north of Koh Phanang...perhaps this may have been why we were slightly disappointed.
The check in process was not straight forward, and seemed to take quite some time. We were given a welcome drink (glass of water) and asked for our passports and confirmation. When we said that we had booked two nights, but on separate booking numbers, this caused confusion, and resulted in us having to change our room after the first night which was not ideal but we guessed this was due to operational reasons...
The resort offers beach towels at reception, and a small amount of deck chairs and of course, the new pool. The pool is small, but adequate for the size of the resort, and offers some lovely views out to sea.
Breakfast is simple, offering guests a choice from 4 or 5 options, as well as tea and coffee, fruit juice and water. Breakfast is not of great quality, and again, perhaps we are just fussy having just arrived from an amazing resort. The bread is not good quality, nor is the bacon, however if these two things were changed, this would massively improve the concept that the resort is trying to offer. It would also be good to see a small selection of cereal on offer for guests to help themselves too, giving them the continental option, which also allows the staff time to take orders and prepare food.
Rooms are clean and adequate, but do not offer a home from home feel. The showers are warm, but our shower head was so low it was more like washing your 'bits' rather than your body. Rooms do not offer any tea/coffee making facilities or a TV to keep upto date with world affairs - this again would massively improve the image and overall rating of this resort.
Overall, if you want a clean basic stay, that is quite pricy for what you get, then this is the place to go. If you want luxury or a little more choice nearby, then perhaps choose a different accommodation or resort on the island.

Dear M. Waite

We are quite disappointed you did not enjoy your stay with us.

We put a lot of effort to satisfy our guest, while remaining fair in the service they purchase.

We are sorry your expectation was not fulfill, but, as you wrote it, it is true that coming from a 5* hotel , 6 time more expensive than us, it is a little bit difficult for us to compete.

We would like to clarify some details of your disappointment that you post on trip advisor (other than the fact that we do not offer 5* hotel service for the price of a 3*).

First of all, about your reservation.

We do clearly understand that to move room during a stay is uncomfortable, specially for 2 nights.. That is why we usually try to let the guest, with multiple reservation, in the same room.

In your case, you book 2 nights with 2 different booking in 2 different room types.

We ask you gently to change room, none because of operational reason, but simply because you book a bungalow garden view third row (the cheapest) for the first night, and a family room (higher category and different room type) for the second night. These 2 room types are very different, not only about the price. We also could not let you in your first room because another guest book this bungalow after your stay, for 5 nights.

About the breakfast.

We do our best to satisfy our guest and try to bring higher quality than our direct concurrent (3* of course) , that is why we offer 5 different choices. (When our direct concurrent did not even offer breakfast for the same price).
As you certainly read on other comment, here , or on booking.com review, or agoda, most of our guest are more than happy with our breakfast.
Maybe because we put a lot of effort to make it better, by making our own jam , yogurt, French pancake, muesli, and bread. Only with fresh ingredients and not industrial one.
To say it is poor quality it is a bit unfair and not true.

And at least but not last about your room in general.

We truly apologize if our equipment was not working properly during your stay.
We like to have our bungalow completely functional. We personally check them once a week.
We usually recommend the customer, during the check in, to inform us asap if something is not working properly in the room.
We do prefer to know it quickly than a week later via trip advisor.

About the amenities in the rooms , during the process of your reservation with booking.com , it is specify what the hotel offer or not.
We can understand If the coffee maker or tv is essential for you.
We recommend you to choose your future hotel under these specific criteria.

We have chosen not to install TV in our hotel. Because It is part of our vision of the holidays.

We thank you to take time to give your opinion and we take your advice in consideration .

Baan Manali is a great resort, hidden away down a track away from what feels like the rest of civilisation. They have little bungalow rooms which aren't overly large but are very cosy and comfortable. The resort is a great place to get away from the 'scene' that is Koh Phangan, but at the same time, not too far away from everything.
We stayed over the full moon party and would have hated to have been much closer to Haad Rin and at about 10 minutes away by taxi, this was great. It is also walking distance to Tongsala (nearest little town)
The staff here are also brilliant and a credit to the resort. Sebastian (owner) and his wife were incredibly friendly. Some reviews below label them as unhelpful but we had several conversations with them and they were friendly, funny and willing to call and make bookings for us at different attractions across the island. The other members of staff are also friendly, with Jim being the main attraction! He is always around to offer assistance and book taxi's/trips for you. He is hilarious and his laugh was one of the best things we discovered whilst travelling across Thailand. I would go back just to see him again!
It is a great mixture of old and young and all different nationalities. The little restaurant does a great selection of food and it is reasonably priced.
The pool (which had just recently been built) was also a great addition to the resort. It was clean and a good way to cool down after roasting on the little deck chairs next to the pool or on the almost private beach front. The air con in the room is also great.
I couldn't really fault my stay here and would definitely come back if i returned to Koh Phangan. It is a great little bit of paradise!

We stayed for 10 nights and really enjoyed Baan Manali. The location was perfect, close enough to walk into Thongsala for shops, market and restaurants, and an easy scooter ride to wonderful beaches such as Haad Salad. The bungalow was comfortable with an excellent verandah and hammock. Small but lovely swimming pool. Spacious grounds with lots of greenery. Great breakfast and a good menu for other meals. Loved the privacy, peace and relaxing atmosphere. Would highly recommend!

This establishment is run by a couple, whom I found to both be very helpful. The husband I noted had been labelled in previous reviews on Trip Advisor as being unhelpful, but I did not experience this at all. He was in fact very helpful when approached, but I think is just a bit shy. A great place to stay, with a new rim flow swimming pool just having been completed, which really is great. (Some photos uploaded) The accomodations were very good, and the staff all very helpful. I get the impression that the establishment is still being built up (probably with quite a tight budget) but I really enjoyed my stay and had nothing to complain about. The newly completed pool is a huge bonus as I can imagine without a pool it could have been a little boring as one cannot swim in the shallow water in front of the resort.
