“Luxury rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012 via mobile

The hotel is overall very good, especially the rroms which are extremely bright, with many windows and a very stylish ancient decoration. Very well done, and at the level of renown luxury hotel chains.
The hotel is good, with fair internet connection everywhere and a nice restaurant. I have been in many places in Thailand and i believe that this hotel is a very good option if you want to relax in a luxurious atmosphere, and still far from thr crouds.

Rooms were in excellent condition. The shower is a rainfall shower which was good fun. You need a scooter to get to places so that's the only problem. There is a massive steep hill you need to climb which can be tiring unless you have the scooter.

To be frank, it's great value for the price you pay because you can get a rubbish hotel for the same price.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We stayed at Salad Buri for 2 nights in a pool villa room on the second level. We were shown to a room on the top level at first with fantastic views but asked to move lower down because of all the steps. Our room was spacious with an extra bed but no sofa. Two sets of air conditioning, one in the bedroom and one in the sitting area. Outside furniture was great with 2 loungers and a swing on the decked area. Breakfast was included which was ok - not much choice though and it was cleared away really quickly at 10am.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have great views but a lot of steps to climb.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stayed at the Salad Buri Resort for 6 nights at the beginning of October 2012. Even though we wanted to keep an open mind towards the negative attitude of the employees, after two days we really noticed some disadvantages of this accommodation. The hotel has all the potential of being a splendid and beautiful resort, though, due to lack of maintenance and perhaps lack of interest, it really doesn’t look as good as it could. Our room was spacious, as was the bathroom and we had a hot tub on our balcony! The latter didn’t work. Also, the internet was extremely unstable and actually most of the time not working. The aircon in the room had 2 settings: hurricane & tornado. Also, the noise that the aircon produced made it impossible to even think of sleeping. When we entered the room after it had been “cleaned”, the window was always open. Only when we left a note in which we kindly asked to close the window, this didn’t happen anymore. Also our sheets were constantly upside down. Why?? Only a small issue, but it shows a lack of professionalism. The thing that really surprised and annoyed us was the fact that every single move you made in the hotel that would have cost, we had to pay in cash immediately. Nothing could be put on the final bill. So you had to carry your wallet around all the time, which is very inconvenient. Drinks, food, taxi , etc. We wanted to rent scooters and asked for information about this at the reception. We were told they have a deal with this woman whom they regularly work with, though, we would have to give our passport. As we had read all about scams and issues with people giving away their passports, we wanted to avoid this. But they wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. Fortunately the lady that rented us the scooters was really nice and we got the passport back without any issues or scams. Although the personnel at the front desk was helpful and to the point, they generally lacked the hospitality that is expected in a 4* resort. No feeling of being welcome (no welcome drink or any words of welcome), -no, we were supposed to feel grateful to may stay at their resort. Except for Rico who worked at reception and was very nice and helpful! Also, personnel at the pool / restaurant gave you more of a feeling of you being watched by prison guards, rather than they being of service to you. More than often they were preoccupied when you wanted to order and over intensely focused while you were eating your sandwich. It was very common that you would have to get up several times in order for you to be able to really consume something, as the personnel were clumsy in their communication, and not proactive. Also, why on earth they put dark brown cushions on the sunbeds? They heat up like crazy, which makes it impossible to lie on them. The beach towels you couldn’t get in your room but you had to sign for them in the restaurant (obviously, when there wasn’t a pen to sign, it was not their fault). Though, the food and drinks that we consumed were of good quality. At the end of the day, we made our stay as pleasant as possible by going out of the hotel, most of the time. We would not book here again as this hotel does not have the quality of 4* as they pretend to have. We did not feel welcome and we felt that we were being watched which we disliked. On the plus side: Great pool, food was always tasty and well prepared and a beautiful location on Haad Salad beach.

Haad Salad is a quiet, relaxing corner of the island and Salad Buri appears to be the best place to stay in the area. The rooms are nicely decorated and the resort very well managed, with polite and helpful staff. We had the topmost cottage room which is positioned so that it is practically on the driveway. At first we were a bit put off by this but we quickly realised that hardly anyone actually uses the driveway so there were no major traffic or privacy issues. The view was great, looking right across the bay at clear blue waters. We are not big pool people and the pool attached to our room was nothing to write home about so we barely used it. It was positioned so that we had to walk downstairs to access it which was good in a way since we were worried it might attract mosquitos if too close to the room.

The biggest gripe we had with Salad Buri was the shower, which plagued us with very low water pressure and hot water than runs out quite quickly. The bathroom is also very simple and feels to let down the overall standard of the bungalow. The wifi was very dodgy - there were a lot of times when I couldnt connect at all, which was very frustrating. My husband seemed to have better luck than me many times though, so it was a bit of a mystery. If you have trouble, try walking around the room - it is quite patchy and just 1 meter seems to make a big difference.

The food in the restaurant was much better than we had expected based on other people's reviews. It was actually one of the better places to eat in the area. Other than that, your best bet is to drive up to Srithanu and check out some of the local eateries there.. the restaurants on Haad Salad were pretty ordinary.

Be aware that the rooms are a bit of a hike away from the beach.. in our case we were right at the top of the resort, so we used our hired motorbike to get up and down, to avoid climbing a hill so steep that even the bike had some real issues with it (the first bike we hired couldnt make it up the hill with the two of us on it so I had to walk.. good exercise, but very hot!)

We quite liked Haad Salad... definitely more classy than Haad Yao and Mae Haad, although certainly still not a high end proposition. We thought it was the best place to stay on the West coast. The beach itself looks quite nice, although as others have mentioned the sand is better on the far side, away from Salad Buri, so we walked over that way to swim. There were quite a few ugly fishing boats in the area but that's not the hotels fault and now we are on the East side of the island we see there are even more over this way, so in that way Salad was better. Our favourite place to swim was not Haad Salad but Chaloklum, where there were very few tourists and super clear waters with powdery white sand. You can even get a longtail boat from there to the East coast, as we did... makes a great day excursion.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay and could well be back. We did feel Salad Buri was slightly overpriced though for what it is. At a lower price point it would have been ideal and the oversights (wifi, shower problems) would have been more acceptable.

Dear Our Value Guest

We would like to say thank you for your review and also would like to say thank you for choosing to stay with us. Every piece of your review is very useful for us to improve and bring up the quality of our hotel. According to the internet connection problem, as most of the rooms are located up on the hill, so the connection may not extremely reach. However, now this problem is in process to be fixed. We have bought more signal distribution and put it in front of every room. So, the internet connection is soon going to be much better. More over, for the water pressure and hot water problem, we will take this as a serious case and will bring up to the meeting with our team. Also, we will find the best solution for these problem as soon as possible. All, in all, we are appreciated that you like our hotel. We would like to welcome you to our place agin and will still offer a special deal for returning guest. Wish you all the best and have a great time

Best regards

We stayed in the hotel for 4 days. I have to admit the our room was great, spacious with amazing view of all the bay.
The hotel itself i didn't find it very appealing to my taste. The location is quite remote, apart the nearby tiny village the area doesn't have anything to offer. You need either to rent a bike/car or move by taxi.
Although that it seems an old hotel, it has some "amateuristic" touches.. like they give you some coupons for breakfast in order to check you out if you re their customer, or internet connection was most of the time down or the jacuzzi in the room with a note "that its not a jacuzzi but a bath tub that you can put warm water.

Room Tip: The "jacuzzi" rooms on the top are spacious and offer good view of the bay

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

I stayed in the hotel in January 2012. That was a wonderful experience to sum up the New Year vacations.

The hotel is situated on a steep hill at a very picturesque cove. So those, who say you have to climb lots of stairs, are absolutely right (though the hotel also offered an electric car service, so if you don't want to walk go up or down, you could call the reception from your room or catch the car from the reception area - the ride to the top will take only several minutes)

I was offered the topmost room with an astonishing view over the cove. There were four rooms in the building - the lower ones had a small private swimming-pool, those above (like my room) were equipped with jacuzzi baths in the outdoor balcony. You could take a bath and admire the cove far below (you are not seen from any point of the hotel... at least my balcony was fully hidden by trees). The room itself was very spacy, the bathroom was really huge. All the furniture was good, all the utilities functioning, everything was clean and neat.

The personnel was friendly and serviceable, especially the girls in the breakfast and dining area. I would also recommend the massage, which is very relaxing.

The beach near the hotel has some stones in the water, but you may go a little further for a better access. The whole area was clean. In winter the tide was not really low (so I did not see anything really terrifying as in some pictures of the same place taken in summer), the water covered the whole cove, so there was still a way to swim (though the water was low, or course).

In general, the place is very calm and relaxing. There is not too much happening in the area, no crowds, no loud discos, only very basic shops in the central street. It is rather a place to relax and recharge and get the fuel enough for the whole year.

Room Tip: If you don't mind climbing stairs, ask for a room on a higher level - it really has a view.
