“Best buy on the island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

We spent 2 nights at this spot a few days ago. We found the staff to be outstanding, food and drinks great and the room very clean. It is just a short walk to the beach but offers a great pool, hammocks and lovely setting for relaxing and reading if sunning is not your thing. It is about 30 separate bungalows built on a hillside with pathways in a coconut grove. One of our favorite places ever.

Room Tip: Bungalow 29 or 30 is away from the party area and nighttime action

We we're on a short break in Thailand, if you compare it to other travellers at least, and we stayed at Shiralea for three nights.

When we arrived we we're welcomed with open arms and a cold drink. The hospitality here is amazing, the guys are so sweet and helpful and you can ask them anything you like. From party tips to where to go on the island and how to get there. The bar/restaurant serves good food and is a great hangout to meet people and be social.

The bungalows are not super special, but they have a fan and a shower for little money. So good value for what you pay. It's not situated in the crowded areas of Ko Phangan but you can rent a motor bike to get to places and the beaches are really nice there.

I would recommend this place to anyone and return without a doubt!

When I think of an island vacation, this is it! Tropical location with wonderful on-site massage, great drinks, a fun atmosphere, a gorgeous beach a short walk away, a pool in case your idea of swimming includes a bar...overall a great place to relax.

The best part for me, though, was the staff. Very friendly, helpful, fun-loving, and generally awesome. They were great about catering to my special diet and always greeted me with a smile.

The only "downside" is that the resort is a fair bit away from the "city", but for me this was a blessing. Island vacations are about getting *away* from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoying some personal time!

Room Tip: The cabins are lovely and cute, but not all are air conditioned.

We read some reviews of this place beforehand and I wasn't sure I could believe it could be that good. But it really is a gem of a place, just awesome! Unfortunately I was quite ill while I was there but I couldn't think of a place I'd rather be to help sooth and recover, I should have had a massage from one of their on site masseurs. There was an issue for them with hostelworld over booking the fan room we originally booked so they gave us a free upgrade to an air-con room that they managed to have available for us when we got there with a bit of a rearrange. The staff were very friendly, I can't remember his name now but the brown haired guy was funny and seemed to be always on hand to help out. We had a great twin room in the end with two huge beds big enough for us to happily share one - we may have even been in a family room - the bathroom was massive! It was a leisurely stroll to the beach about 100 metres away and you pass two mo ped hire places along the way where you can pick one up to explore more of the island and then park on site overnight. Such great value for money, even more so when you compare it to the places just around the corner on the beach. We were there towards the end of August just gone at a time when there weren't any full moon, or half moon etc parties happening, but one of the staff did invite us to a party going on somewhere off site, I was just too ill to go along unfortunately!

My girlfriend and I stayed here in July 2013. Whilst we're not hardcore backpackers by any means, we liked what we had read and seen about Shiralea.. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by Josh, Nat, Muscles and Seb. We were shown around the facility and then to our rooms.. We stayed in the cheapest non air huts. They were clean, basic and worth the 600/night we paid for it. We would have preferred air con but they were fully booked.

The place had a great pool, TV/Movie lounge area, pool table, beer pong and lots of seating/lounging areas in the main bar/restaurant.. The food here is AMAZING. Both Thai and western food were of top quality standard and goes to show that the western owners have taken there time to teach the Thai/Burmese chefs how to make good western grub!

The staff were amazing too. Josh was very helpful in helping us with directions and recommendations, as well as supplying us with the odd cocktail/shots on the house. Seb actually made us a toasted sandwich long after the kitchen had closed, which again added to the overall experience and made me feel like these guys really just want you to have a good time and enjoy that time with you.

If you're a backpacker or just someone with an open mind and want to try something different then this is the place for you. The cost is pretty cheap, but the service and fun is priceless. I'd go back in a heartbeat!.. ENJOY!!

Room Tip: Book in advance as the air con rooms book out quickly!
