“an exotic home from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2011

We stayed at the Rasananda in Oct 2011 for one week in a lagoon pool villa. We were picked up from our other hotel in Bophut, Koh Samui by the Rasananda driver and taken to the speed boat departure lounge in Bophut. Here we were met by very friendly staff who checked us in. We were offered a range of drinks whilst we waited and then we took the shared speed boat to Phangan island. The speed boat left at 11:30 and the crossing took around 40 mins. The scenery was amazing and we were again offered drinks on the boat. The general manager Mark was on the boat after returning from a business trip, he introduced himself to everyone and chatted to us all. This gave a lovely first impression he was very friendly and relaxed which, we discovered, is how the whole resort feels. We were greeted on the beach by Alex the assistant GM and the reception staff, WOW! We were offered some juice and cold towels and then we were personally escorted to our villa. I travel a lot for work and stay regularly in 5 star properties but you instantly recognise the Rasananda has something very special about it. We walked along decking over Koi pools to our gate door and walked onto a very spacious decking area were the private pool was. The pool was actually bigger than i thought at about 15ft by 6ft (ish) and also had a stylish outdoor covered day bed with a ceiling fan above and lighting. The pool also had a jacuzzi feature with it. The rooms were very well appointed, spacious with a gorgeous decor and a beautiful, very comfortable bed. The room had an apple TV system which offered a large selection of films, music, tv programs, all for you to use at your convienience. There was complimentary vodka, gin and whiskey in your room and this was replenished daily. However the bottles were big and the amounts were small but it didnt matter so much as there was no charge for it. Bathrooms were light and airy with a contemporary feel with a huge rain shower, seperate toilet area and double sink with very nice bathroom amenities. All of the staff are amazing, so friendly and above all genuine. Everyone always acknowledges you but it is very understated and natural, not over kill or in your face, which is how we like it! . For some reason we did not eat at the hotel at night but every night there is a different food theme and houskeeping leave the details of it in your room the night before. Head chef Tony is lovely and if breakfast was anything to go by then his and the teams dinner creations will be fabulous. Breakfast was very good quality offering basically anything you could want at breakfast and more and i know if it wasn't there chef Tony would have got it there! The only very minor glitch was the restaurant staff could sometimes seem a little disorganised and you could occasionally be left waiting some time for service items. I do have to point out though that the property had recently been taken over by Anantara so staff from other resorts were helping out during the transition so i can undertand that it might not have been easy not working in their usual environment and am quite confident these teething problems will have remedied themselves by now. If you like to go out and about there is a little village to walk into with a good selection of restaurants and a few bars. Luna restaurant is very good and just about 10 mins walk from the hotel. A little family run shop with a side bar and restaurant are great for grabbing a bit of lunch and a beer. Called Jip shop and on the main street, it has a big menu selection and very reasonably priced. As with most Thai villages there was a lot of places to choose from for a massage or treatment. One place that did stand out was a place just a few steps from the hotel called "Tanaporn massage house" it is run by a husband and wife team who were so nice and welcoming and they have the biggest selection of treatments than any other place and everything was very authentic and professional, well worth a visit! The hotel has an amazing tranquil Spa offering wonderful treatments and they offer early bird discounts and packages. The pools are not huge but are perfectly sized for the property and the beach is beautiful, sunbeds were plentiful on the beach and made up for you. There were only 6 sunbeds around the pool but getting one never seemed to be a problem. One annoying aspect was people staying at some of the bungalows along the beach used the pool area and lobby as a cut through from the town to the beach. I felt like they were invading my beautiful space!!! On the whole, the holiday and this resort was perfect and we were genuinely sad to leave. We were made to feel so welcome by all the staff. I had a birthday whilst there and chatting to chef Tony I let it slip. On my birthday the restaurant staff brought out a gorgeous cake that had been made for me (thank you Tony) and they sang "happy birthday" to me. It was such a lovely surprise. When I got back to the room, the houskeeping staff had made a stunning birthday message on the bed in a mix of rose petals and other flowers and left me a card signed by the hotel staff. We love the Rasanada and cannot wait to go back soon, everything about the property was perfect, the staff and the whole ambience of the place really do make you feel it's your home from home!

Being on our honeymoon after an exaustating wedding and much planning on our 1st Thailand trip we were not dissapointed by Rasanada Resort.Being met at the Koh Samui airport with bus transfer to the departure area and then by their private speed boat was impressive.Check in was prompt and the upgrade room being on our honeymoon was a delight and beautiful.A large outdoor patio including a dip pool. Decorated rose petals and flowers on our bed ever night. The entire staff was always keeping busy cleaning with a smile on their faces,Breakfast buffet was a highlight each morning with numerous local a la carte items available.Head Chef Tony was always their pleasant and making sure all our needs were taken care of as well as giving local recommedations. The beach in front of the hotel were kept clean, well attended with plenty of towels and lounge chairs were on hand.Once ever day they would come around with appitizers and cold towels.Impressive!
As many other reviews the small rustic charming town a few minutes away has numerous massage salons and restaurants. My wife became addicted to Jip massage and had 2-3 services every day but at these inexpensive prices what a deal.Favorate food was Sex on the beach and Jip/Thai.At the resort the food was also good.We always enjoyed half price happy hour along with meeting other guests.Drinking bottles of Champane at beach side candelighted tables was romantic. We took the hotels package honeymoon yogurt massage for two in their beautiful decorated Thai spa.Down from the hotel we hired a longtail boat for snorkeling and another beach tour.Fun trip even though the water was a little murky. Our beach in front of the hotel was kept very clean and fairly quiet except for the wave runner and para sailing.
Our only negative comments:Being on our honeymoon and after extensively researching Thailand we felt this resort was geared to more of an adult enviornment. We all love our children but being on our honeymoon wanting romantic quiet times together having children running around loud was a definate negative to our special time.Maybe having an adults only area near the beach and bar areas would solve this problem as in many 5 star resorts?
Thank you Rasananda for wonderful memories...Fenton and Mandy

From the moment we stepped into Rasananda we felt relaxed. We got the hotel car to the resort but if weather s good definately pay and get the speed boat straight to resort. The service was outstanding. Everyone was so friendly. We highly recommend the Thai cooking class which is a great experience. Also the dining experience on the beach with your own menu, waiter and privacy. We were on our honeymoon and could not have wished for anymore. We have travelled a lot and never received such great service. Worth every penny.
We would recommend Rasananda to any couple or group looking for total relaxation and bliss and will definately be returning next year. Thanks to Marc, Tony, ton and their amazing team.

Room Tip: Book either a villa or ocean view but all rooms are amazing and have there own touch.

We have just come back from a great long weekend from Singapore which was such a sucsess for a combination of reasons.
Firstly the boat organised by the hotel from Koh Samui which takes you to the hotel beach was a great start!
Our room was lovely, everything you would need from Apple TV to complimentary Vodka!
The food in the hotel was delicious and we had 2 fun BBQ evenings. Around the bar is quite quiet but its what you expect from a couples hotel.

The hotel has a great feel, from being chic and clean to really relaxed with friendly staff....we are looking forward to going back!

We arrived to the rasananda resort in a rainy day. After the difficult road to the hotel (with a baby in the pouring rain....) the hostess of the hotel told me that there is no baby cot for us. I was very annoyed and wanted to leave the hotel immediately but the manager said that he will try to arrange the baby cot by night time.
From that moment on everything was perfect. Our room was large and beautiful. The resort it self is truly relaxing and gorgeous.
The food in the restaurant is great (although very expensive…) and the beach is amazing. Great staff..
The best hotel I visited in Thailand!

Room Tip: Be careful the resort by night time is very dark and there are hidden stairs everywhere. I got out w...

I booked this resort after I came out of the monastery. They gave me villa nr. 18 and I loved it! It was very private, and quiet.

The service was perfect. Very attentive and friendly.

It was an absolute treat to stay here. Obviously it is expensive according to Thai standards. But then again, why not indulge in cheer luxury for a couple of days. You will not regret it.

I didn't take any of the massage treatments, as I found a good one just off of the resort. But the restaurant was great, and the food prepared was tasty.

Also do yourselves a favor when you travel back to Samui: book the speedboat! It's a 20 minute boat ride, compared to the almost two hours to get there via taxi and ferry.

Room Tip: Order the Siam Sunrise cocktail. Very yum!

What can I day that already has not been said?? This place is a little bit of paradise, where the staff are lovely and everything you could possibly need is already in your room - beach bag with towels, flip flops, umbrella if it rains, hand lotion, body lotion, the Apple TV, etc. Given that most hotels are cutting corners particuarly on the little extras, this place is amazing. The food is fantastic, did the cookery course and we are now converted to Thai cuisine. The chef was great craic. The place is 5 star plus and you pay for what you get. The transfer from Koh Samui was brilliant so easy and efficient. We are in the Maldives a few years ago searching for the ultimate paradise and this place wins hands down. For me the option to go all inclusive would be have been an ideal option given that everything is subject to 10% service charge plus 7% tax. While we are paying for 5 star quality, we still have to manage our money. We love this place and will be back.

Room Tip: Beach front villa is a must
