Owner description: Lanta Old Town is a small village on Ko Lanta's East Coast in Krabi Province. Many years ago, Ko Lanta's Old Town acted as the port and commercial center for the island and provided safe harbor for Arabic and Chinese trading vessels sailing between the larger ports of Phuket, Penang and Singapore. Today, Old Town is the district capital; it has a post office, police station, Buddhist temple, Chinese temple and the island's hospital as well as a long pier.

nothing much to see or do here. I believe there is a Sunday market but if you are thinking to go shopping here any other time there isn't much to buy either. There is a far wider selection in Sala Dan

“Not worth a special trip but a good place to stay away from the touristy beach scene”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Old Town Lanta is not worth a special trip to (its just one road + a jetty) unless you have a motorbike and you want to go for lunch and pick up supplies. Otherwise, its a good place to stay if you have transpo and want to get away from the touristy beach scene for a bit. Its also cheaper to stay in old town and you are away from the tourist crowds (hence, much better food and more friendly service from the locals). I stayed at the Sriraya Guesthouse (an old teak house, part of which is over water) and ate a couple of times at Lanta House (I think that was the place, it was down the street with the back over the water) since it had wi-fi and I think the Thai lady running it is married to a foreigner.

“Low season 8th october 2013”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Very quiet little town very few shops open but you shouldnt go there for shopping. The harbour and surrounding Islands makes a perfect chillout for couples and are really worth the trip. We went there while it was cloudy and rainy but still got some fine photos. Could imagine the town would be beautiful in sunshine.

“Old town in the rainy season”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

The drive across the mountain was scenic with a lovely stop at a view-point. A lot of places in the town were closed but interesting nevertheless

“Quaint and picturesque”

This quiet and historic village is a pleasant contrast to Saladan - a must see for any who want to see all sides of Koh Lanta
