Owner description: Lanta Old Town is a small village on Ko Lanta's East Coast in Krabi Province. Many years ago, Ko Lanta's Old Town acted as the port and commercial center for the island and provided safe harbor for Arabic and Chinese trading vessels sailing between the larger ports of Phuket, Penang and Singapore. Today, Old Town is the district capital; it has a post office, police station, Buddhist temple, Chinese temple and the island's hospital as well as a long pier.

“Go here first”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

Go to hammock house there is a bikers guide to Ko Lanta they give away free with dining and bars, as well as hotels, its the best map on the island. Also best shopping on Lanta, great way to kill an afternoon, stop off at the lookout for a drink or meal, there are 2 bars at the lookout and the higher one has the coldest beer we had in Thailand, chang is so much better with frost on it.

“Cute little area, must visit Shanti Shanti”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

We stayed on Long Beach and rented transportation each day so made a few runs into Old Town for fun. There isn't a ton to do aside from shop or eat but the scenery is nice and a change from the beach. Do yourselves a favor by stopping in to Shanti Shanti for some amazing ice cream overlooking the ocean. It is about a km south of the dock in a charming old pole house. (Keep going, you will think that nothing is that far or that you missed it but it is there, I promise)

“Quaint and welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Lovely place - not as touristy as Saladin, relaxed and friendly with houses on stilts. Shops have alternatives to the standard souvenirs and it feels like going back in time wandering down the main street on a sunny afternoon. Don't miss the hammock shop!

“Small town with some charm”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

I wouldn't say it is a great place to visit but it does have a nice pier. There are plenty of small cafes and shops to keep one busy for an hour or two. Some tours start from this cross-island town.
