I have been meaning to write this reveiw for sometime... we first stayed at the Narima April 2007 and had a fantastic time. Great food, service, massage, Songkran beach bar-be-que. So we decided to go back for Christmas with some family members who came out to visit us. We had been told that at Christmas time they do a beach bar-b-que as they had done at Songkran.
We were disappointed from the outset as we weren't greated by a local, instead a teenager from Bristol. Part of the experience of coming to Thailand is to experience the Thai hospitality and whilst the farangs working there were friendly and helpful, it really watered everything down for us. The next disappointment was that there was no Christmas Bar-b-que planned - nothing. Christmas eve they put up a tree but it was all very low key. So the Christmas day we had expected and planned for our family did not happen. It was all very low key which may suit some people but not what we had experienced the Songrkan before.
The food also did not seem as good as the visit before but this could have been due to the slight sour taste in our mouths. The service was very slow also. The owners were no where to be seen which I suppose is why nothing had been planned for Christmas and why we were greated by a 15 year old from Western Super Mare instead of a wai and glass of water from a local.
I wanted to write this review as I think the Narima is a great place and has a lot going for it - good for families especially and not so good for a romantic break for two (due to the number for children who occupy the small pool). But I think that the service was so poor last time we stayed that I think we will try a new place to stay our next visit to Lanta (we live in Thailand).
We were mainly disappointed by the fact there were so many Westerners working there which totally diluted any authentic Eastern experience for our visitors staying which was disappointing.
