“Best food in Ko Lanta - out of this world”

Simply put - Green Chilli was the best food we had in a month on Ko Lanta. The restaurant itself is simple and unpretentious, but the food speaks for itself.

Run by a husband and wife couple - the wife and her sisters run the kitchen. Upon chatting to her it turns out that she has been a chef in 11 countries, quite a feat for a local thai!

Dishes to look out for;

The fresh fish/crab cakes - the best I've had in Thailand. Crispy and fresh - we just kept on ordering more and more of these.
Duck Mussaman - probably the best I've had in Thailand. Just outstanding
Beef with fresh Chilli and Hot Basil. Not as hot as it sounds and very tasty
Beef Pannang
Any of their fresh fish dishes
The desserts! Banana spring rolls, Banana tempura, they were all excellent

Prices - we ate and drank extremely well for about £4 a head.

These guys really go the extra mile - and for little or no extra cost. For example, when we wanted to order a lot of Gin and Tonics, instead of charging us the individual price, they simply added £2 to the cost they paid for the bottle and gave it to us.

The wife also gave 5 of us a free mornings cookery lesson free of charge (These generally cost about £20 per person if you go to a local cookery school) where we learnt how to make the fish cakes and Mussaman.

I couldn't recommend the Green Chilli enough - if you want a pretentious, deluxe setting this isn't it - but the food is out of this world.

“Our week at Green Chilli”

I recently got back from my 4th trip to Thailand and first time in Koh Lanta of which our week was spent staying and eating at Green Chilli, upon not finding a room at our intended destination we stumbled across Green Chilli next door and found some nice, clean and very reasonably priced 2 man bungalows by the beach ($5 per head per night). We discovered Om the chef has fresh duck and seafood in every day so tucked into the duck Mussaman, prawn tempura and fishcakes. All of which were absolute triumphs, after adding to her Thai skills in 11 different countries including spain and Mont St Michel in France it was a rarity and pleasure to find classicly prepared duck in Thailand which was as good as anything I'd tried in Paris or during my childhood in Brittany. The fishcakes were the best anyone in our party had ever eaten with huge amounts of sweet, spicy and buttery flavours combining with a wonderful light fresh seafood mix.
We proceeded to eat most of our meals for the week there as we didn't find anywhere else on the beach which had as wide a range nor duck of which we're all huge fans! The fresh fish, pad thai and duck dishes were all beautiful and rich, garlic pepper prawns and duck a l'orange were to die for. The pizza was passed with flying colours by the 2 americans in our party and the puddings were up there with 1 and 2 michelin starred restaurants that I've visited, banana spring rolls with vanilla ice cream and cointreau sauce were superb as well as the chocolate orange mousse which Terry would have been truly proud of. The hopsitality and warmth shown to us by Om, Pin and their family combined with the quality of the food means we'll be returning straight to Green Chilli on our next trip to Thailand, we even had the pleasure of cooking with Om on our last morning and learnt our 2 favourite dishes, the duck mussaman and thai fish cakes. I'd highly recommend all the dishes we tried, Oms knowledge of different techniques meant the Spanish, English, French and German (wiener schnitzel) dishes we tried were all of the highest level. The best find of all my trips to date in Thailand. The restaurant is relaxed so the bar mainly functions the diners, for boozing and afterwards the rest of the beach was a lot busier. Food was served late and the sunset views were gorgeous given the right evening!
