We spent 12 months looking for a location for our honeymoon. We are not a young couple, mid life, but a couple who over the years together have been fortunate to have travelled to many of the worlds great destinations, The Maldives, various locations in Australia, Aspen, Denver, SIngapore, KL, three other locations in Thailand, Skiathos and other European countries, so you can imagine the torment when looking for that special location for our honeymoon.
We enjoy relaxing round the pool reading books listening to soulful music and being able to savour our evenings with great food (Al A Carte) and wine. We have found over the years that busy holidays do not allow us to recharge from our busy working lives, so relaxation is for us and our locations reflect this.
We searched various websites considering resorts across the world looking for something different but we could not get away from the warm, smiling, service orientated culture in Thailand. With the country selected it was then what did we want to make this special. Pimalai resort provided us with exactly what a couple like us would want for a honeymoon destination. The accommodation, One bedroom pool villa, was located high on the side of a hill, providing us with fantastic views and a sunset to blow you away.
This is the low season but as a couple who have experienced Thailand this time of the year previously, we are fully aware of the rains, or not as the case maybe. Our experience has shown us that rain, if it appears, happens late in the day and you are likely to get possibly two days out of fourteen with a significant downpour. SO do not be put off by agents stating that this is the monsoon season. There are many benefits accompanying you by being at a resort during this period of the season.
We selected private transfers (Car and boat) to/from the resort and the travel experience was professional and the staff who met us were extremely courteous and helpful in all aspects, after a 20 hour journey you need that comfort to get you through the last leg of your journey. We were met at our room and the checking process was seamless, all paperwork waiting and a receptionist on hand to explain everything.
We were informed about the local monkeys and there ability to gain access through the sliding doors if they were not locked. We found out on our third night how clever they were and the mess they left behind after eating all the fruit the tea bags, sugar and unwinding the toilet roll, luckily I am not sure they have got to grip with opening the fridge otherwise its contents could have been part of their snacks. LOL.
Being a 'Al a carte' couple we were to experience HB for the first time in all the years we have travelled together. You hear about the bad experiences of couples who go HB or all inclusive so to find out that we had the choice from 3 restaurants all Al a carte provided us with the dining experience we sought every evening. The staff were tentative, but not intrusive, and soon understood our needs every evening and at breakfast. we found that giving staff respect was reciprocated in spades.
A walk to the local village every morning provide us with an opportunity to get massages and pick up a cold drink or two for the walk back along the beach.
In summary the resort was a fantastic location for a honeymoon, The accommodation was clean and maintained to the highest level, the grounds were extremely well managed, The restaurants delivered quality food time and again. the two additional pools on the resort looked well maintained albeit we did not use these as we had our own in the villa. The Spa was as good as any other we have experienced in other resorts in Thailand, if there has been rain and you do use the spa please be careful of the steps as these do become slippery, Many thanks to the GM who sent flowers to our room after my slip.
We must praise the chefs and their staff for creating quality meals and making different dishes for my wife who is not a seafoody, the chefs changed out seafood for poultry in some dishes. We would like to thank all the staff in Seven Seas and Banyan Tree, especially for the last night send off in Seven Seas and for the decorated table and chair.
The only negative comment I have and this is not aimed at the resort at all, there are some parents who bring their children to a resort such as this that is not geared up to entertain children therefore children will get bored very quickly outside of the swimming pool or beach, so evening diners could have their evening easily spoilt by children who are not being entertained by their parents. Whilst we were there there was only a couple of families with young children and we were able to select timings that prevented our dining experience being disturbed by bored children. (We do have three children and six grandchildren but we chose to leave them at home!!)
This is a resort that is on a list of only a few where we will return.
