“Honeymoon Destination of Choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

We spent 12 months looking for a location for our honeymoon. We are not a young couple, mid life, but a couple who over the years together have been fortunate to have travelled to many of the worlds great destinations, The Maldives, various locations in Australia, Aspen, Denver, SIngapore, KL, three other locations in Thailand, Skiathos and other European countries, so you can imagine the torment when looking for that special location for our honeymoon.

We enjoy relaxing round the pool reading books listening to soulful music and being able to savour our evenings with great food (Al A Carte) and wine. We have found over the years that busy holidays do not allow us to recharge from our busy working lives, so relaxation is for us and our locations reflect this.

We searched various websites considering resorts across the world looking for something different but we could not get away from the warm, smiling, service orientated culture in Thailand. With the country selected it was then what did we want to make this special. Pimalai resort provided us with exactly what a couple like us would want for a honeymoon destination. The accommodation, One bedroom pool villa, was located high on the side of a hill, providing us with fantastic views and a sunset to blow you away.

This is the low season but as a couple who have experienced Thailand this time of the year previously, we are fully aware of the rains, or not as the case maybe. Our experience has shown us that rain, if it appears, happens late in the day and you are likely to get possibly two days out of fourteen with a significant downpour. SO do not be put off by agents stating that this is the monsoon season. There are many benefits accompanying you by being at a resort during this period of the season.

We selected private transfers (Car and boat) to/from the resort and the travel experience was professional and the staff who met us were extremely courteous and helpful in all aspects, after a 20 hour journey you need that comfort to get you through the last leg of your journey. We were met at our room and the checking process was seamless, all paperwork waiting and a receptionist on hand to explain everything.

We were informed about the local monkeys and there ability to gain access through the sliding doors if they were not locked. We found out on our third night how clever they were and the mess they left behind after eating all the fruit the tea bags, sugar and unwinding the toilet roll, luckily I am not sure they have got to grip with opening the fridge otherwise its contents could have been part of their snacks. LOL.

Being a 'Al a carte' couple we were to experience HB for the first time in all the years we have travelled together. You hear about the bad experiences of couples who go HB or all inclusive so to find out that we had the choice from 3 restaurants all Al a carte provided us with the dining experience we sought every evening. The staff were tentative, but not intrusive, and soon understood our needs every evening and at breakfast. we found that giving staff respect was reciprocated in spades.

A walk to the local village every morning provide us with an opportunity to get massages and pick up a cold drink or two for the walk back along the beach.

In summary the resort was a fantastic location for a honeymoon, The accommodation was clean and maintained to the highest level, the grounds were extremely well managed, The restaurants delivered quality food time and again. the two additional pools on the resort looked well maintained albeit we did not use these as we had our own in the villa. The Spa was as good as any other we have experienced in other resorts in Thailand, if there has been rain and you do use the spa please be careful of the steps as these do become slippery, Many thanks to the GM who sent flowers to our room after my slip.

We must praise the chefs and their staff for creating quality meals and making different dishes for my wife who is not a seafoody, the chefs changed out seafood for poultry in some dishes. We would like to thank all the staff in Seven Seas and Banyan Tree, especially for the last night send off in Seven Seas and for the decorated table and chair.

The only negative comment I have and this is not aimed at the resort at all, there are some parents who bring their children to a resort such as this that is not geared up to entertain children therefore children will get bored very quickly outside of the swimming pool or beach, so evening diners could have their evening easily spoilt by children who are not being entertained by their parents. Whilst we were there there was only a couple of families with young children and we were able to select timings that prevented our dining experience being disturbed by bored children. (We do have three children and six grandchildren but we chose to leave them at home!!)

This is a resort that is on a list of only a few where we will return.

Room Tip: If you can get a one bedroom pool villa, we had 806 and the sunset view was mind blowing

We spent 4 days at this resort, also as part of our honeymoon, assisted by Andaman Sky. We absolutely loved Koh Lanta and this resort. The rooms were amazing, the honeymoon cake and florals on our bed was a nice touch. The absolutely cherished the breakfasts which luckily for us took place at the Seven Seas Restaurant. As morning exercise, we decided to walk up the many flights of stairs to the infinity pool. Most people happily took the resort cart. The service was extremely personable, we were greeted daily by the food/bar manager and general manager.
We enjoyed romantic dinner at the Seven Seas Restaurant and divine massages at the spa, all courtesy of our travel agent (Andaman Sky). Also we tried nightly to watch sunset at the top infinity pool, it was quiet most of the time. We really liked the fact at dinner time they gave us bug spray when requested, however, the only annoying thing is they do not provide free water for dinner, charging you 60 bht for a bottle of water at dinner.

The Scuba Fish tour operator onsite was extremely professional and educational, my husband and I were so impressed with the scuba diving experienced. I have been on a couple of discovery dives before, but this was one was the best ever! The water at Koh Haa was extremely clear and the variety of coral/fish was impressive. Jon was an excellent instructor, made sure we were comfortable and took his time to show us all the impressive sea life.

The day trip to Koh Rok was also extremely beautiful, such great snorkeling and the most stunning beach! I could see my toe nails from shoulder height depth of water. Best snorkelling I have done in my life, and I have been to many places in Caribbean.

Koh Lanta is an extremely relaxed and friendly island. We made friends everywhere we went :) We loved the Drunken Sailors, Why Not Bar, and Rock In Roll Pad Thai.

This resort is simply magical with the superb seaview from infinity pool and the pool villas. A truly 5 stars experience for the airport transfers. (WELL DONE Teams) You'll never be unattended from the moment you pick up from airport till the resort. From Airport via shuttle van to Pimalai jetty and interchange to Luxury boat trip to the Koh lanta island and Pimalai car is waiting from the island jetty to Pimalai Resort (Superb service for the transport team)

We stay in Pool villa for the first 2 days and the villa is so magical with private pool, kitchenette, lounge, sala, a huge bath tub with magnificent seaview and more more more. The best moment will always be the magical sunset in ba kan tiang beach.

Breakfast is good with a variety of choices from Thai to international and the best is ala carte menu, smoothies, eggs station are all order to cook. But on the buffet days the food quality is really bad (hope the management could maintain the ala carte menu even with high occupancy rate in the resort.) As I felt the quality is ways below the standard we have in the first 2 days.

Mostly we eat in the resort, Rak Talay is serving some good Thai foods and warns to those that couldn't consume spicy food please pre-inform during ordering.

First Night we ate at Noon, just a 5 mins drive from the resort the clear Tom Yam is delicious and full of spices and herbs and thank you to John from Noon on the pick up service.

2nd night we eat at Seven Sea, I would like said the view is beautiful but the chef if not thoughtful enough on the menu, I ordered vegetarian menu of mushroom soup and Ravioli filled with pumpkin and toasted almond flour and my wife ordered a mushroom soup, Seared Sea scallops & crunchy bacon and a Grilled filet of sea-bass but after a minutes the waitress we inform me that the ingredients in the soup is contain of garlic and the chef recommend me to change it to pumpkin soup and the soup is yummy but the chef my had forgotten that I has ordered the Ravioli with pumpkin. The foods is fresh and delicious but is leak of out of menu creation for special dietary and my wife do complaint the foods served is cold and plain in taste. For this I must said The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah have the superb combination for the taste and the out of menu meal.

3rd night we dine in Spice and Rice the foods is just average and the last night we ordered home dining and the Pizza is nice and crispy.

There is a small village next to the resort by 5 minutes walking from the beach and you can find some massage centre and a 7-11 store.

The resort SPA is wonderful and prefect to rejuvenate and pamper yourself and your loved one. The pre spa session starts with Jacuzzi and herbal stream then with body scrub and lastly the massage. I must admit Pimalai spa is the best we ever experienced. The excellent in stroke and pressure make you feel so good and relieve. Thank you and Keep it up ladies.

The only problem we faced when we in Pimalai will be the communication barrier where most of the staff doesn't have a good command in English and to make keep them away shame or hurt we just never approach future if the queries is not answered accordingly and this just created a miscommunication when we moving from Pimalai hill or Pimalai beach area.

Thanks you to the team and we really have a wonderful holiday in Pimalai. For sure we will return to Pimalai.

Room Tip: Pool villa for the best sunset and more privacy

I was there for my honeymoon.
The way to go there is little hard for us ( 2 times flight / 30 min drive / 1 hour yacht).
But, when we arrive there, we could not belive beautiful scenery,
If you want to find the relax and calm report, please visit there!.

Wow, what an amazing resort. We booked 4 nights at this resort as part of a (brilliant) tailor-made island hopping trip booked with Andaman Sly, who got us excellent deals at all the resorts we stayed at, particularly at this one, where their price for a pool villa demolished expedia, agoda etc.

The villa which our travel agent booked for us appeared to be the best in the resort, with a view untrammeled by any sign of human habitation. We spent the evenings on the beach quaffing cocktails after watching the sun go down- tropical holiday dreams come true. The staff are so welcoming, the grounds are very beautiful and the infinity pools are excellent. One of the best things was that the resort never felt over-crowded, even though we went in high season and the resort was almost fully booked. The food was great (we booked dinners too) and offered lots of variety on the many restaurants to choose from, of which the Seven Seas gourmet restaurant was our favourite. The langurs (a type of monkey) who visited our villa were very pretty and not at all aggressive, as we had feared they might be.

What really sets Pimalai apart is the location. The resort is massive, but not in the industrial tourism way that has become all too common on islands like Phuket and Samui, plus I’ve heard that Pattaya has taken the concept to new depths. At Pimalai there are only a hundred-odd accommodation units in a huge space, about 500 metres square, we reckoned, so there are never any crowds. There are multiple pools and restaurants too, plus enough loungers, so you never feel crowded, even when the place is full.

The Same Same but Different restaurant next door is a good option to save a few pennies. The Why Not bar at the other end of the beach is realy excellent – the best beach bar I have ever been to.

Room Tip: Book with Andaman Sky - we did and not only got a significantly lower price than we could find elsew...

Pimalai was a great experience overall. It was worth the cost of the room (in the low season). Has a beautiful (and almost private) beach. The staff is extremely caring and greet you all the time so politely. All this just adds to making your stay very enjoyable.

The breakfast spread was awesome! Amazing variety of fruits, Pimalai Eggs were delicious, and the smoothies they mix are fantastic!!

Service is always with a smile and a sawadhee (Thai greeting). We had some problem with the motorcycle we hired and the receptionist used her personal cellphone and helped sort the issue out. She was so super helpful and efficient at it .. solved the problem within minutes. This is just one example of the amazing service!!! All adds to making your stay worthwhile.

One night there was a lizard in our room and since we were petrified, a senior staff member along with other staff came and got the lizard out - they were so efficient and apologetic about it - when it had nothing to do with them! Great service!

The Spa was very good too, we tried a couple of treatments and all were very good. However, it is very expensive and therefore it is worth trying just once.

The airport transfer to Pimalai takes approximately 2 hours + . It is better to select the option of Pimalai doing the transfers as they do it best. Van - Speed boat - Car combination. The speed boat is awesome fun and you get to go through some lovely islands. However, it is TOO expensive (but there is little choice for alternatives). They charge the cost per person, not even per room which we thought shouldn't have been the case. At least it could have been a per room cost.

Eating options are limited in a sense that there is Pimalai and nothing else. Food tends to be expensive if you eat all meals in Pimalai. However, food is good. The Pool Bar snacks were yum (specially the quesadilla). Rak Talay - the beach restaurant was also good. However, for one meal we ordered a Grouper fish and it was served cold and the scales were not cleaned. When we told the server, he just got us the bill. However, this could just be because of the language problem. Other than this food elsewhere was very good .. we had no problems.

It is easy to just hire a motorcycle and drive around. We did that for 2 meals, just for a change. Another option is to walk along the beach and eat at the restaurant there. There aren't too many choices.

We selected the Deluxe Room and were happy with it for its price. A 2 min walk to the pool and 5 mins to the beach. The room was comfortable and fine. The shampoo/body wash in the bathrooms were amazing!!!

It is secluded, far away and for those who want a peaceful and quiet vacation. There aren't many activities (motor sports, water sports, river rafting) around. Those are all available in Krabi town. More of a place for adults than for children (though we did see that they had a kids room on the way to the pool). So if that is what you are looking for then Pimalai is a very good choice.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the beach are more fun (but more expensive); We took the deluxe room, which was a 2...
