“May's Thai food is average and moderately price, however I would not dare to say that this is traditional Thai food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We went there expecting real Thai food since we moved to Lantas Lodge and because our favorite Thai kitchen stall across the Swiss "Grüzi" restaurant and directly next to the Yamaha shop was too far away. In fact, they do not even possess an English name for their restaurant, however their food is probably the best on the entire island as it is real, traditional Thai food and not not adjusted to the typical tourist demands. Moreover, this is the only place with local prices, that is, you pay for an average meal not more than 50 BHT. At the same time you gethigh quality and fairly sized portions.

So after reading the comments about may's kitchen we had very similar exceptions and unfortunately none of them were met. Still, compared to other restaurants, may's kitchen is definitely a less expensive option and serves probably still better "Thai food" (if you want to call it that way) than any other typical tourist restaurants near by. The staff was also quite friendly in my opinion. Thus, if you want to have moderate Thai food at a low to moderate price then may's kitchen will be a valid option.

“It was like a magnet to me...!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Staying at Thai House Beach resort, I was told of this lovely place. I found myself, each day being drawn back there....so delicious!!!.. The glass noodle salad, spicy, fresh and positively YUMMO. and my Lemon shake was the best.
When i come back in 12 months, I will definitely be seeking out Mays Kitchen again.

“Excellent food and a warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

This is a wonderful place to try some authentic Thai food. The restaurant is run by May, who makes some amazing food (the massaman is my favourite). As a vegetarian, it can be quite difficult to get genuine veggie food. However, as May and her daughters speak very good English, there was never any problem making it clear what I wanted. If you pass in the day time, you will see Thai people eating here, which is always a sign of a good restaurant.

There is a little bar to one side of the restaurant that you can happily sit and chat with Tony, one of the owners who is Irish and a real character. This is a restaurant and experience not to be missed!

“A true gem amongst all the useless tourist traps”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Found this place through the reviews here, and I can´t nothing but agree with them. This is truly thai food as it should be! Cheap, tasty, spicy and with some nice twists. We had the massaman spaghetti for our daughter, a fried yellow curry, the paneng curry and tom yam soup with shrimps. Everything was superb, and the shrimps in the tom yam was fresh and delicious. What stood out though was the spaghetti with massaman curry, a superb combination.

The location isn´t all that next to the main road, but the food is way better than any of the beach-side restaurants so it more than makes up for it. Service was top notch. When they didn´t have room for us when we came, they made room (2 adults, a 2,5 year old and a 6 month old in a stroller). The staff was always willing to help, and they spoke good english.

As far as I´m concerned this place deserves a top 3 in Ko Lanta, no doubt.
