While staying at a hotel on Khlong Nin on Koh Lanta, my wife and I stopped by the local Shanti Shanti for a snack. First, a few comments on the decor would be in order. Someone has scrounged the tables, the chairs and the wall hangings from dozens of visits to flea markets, probably in Bangkok. The effect is strongly retro, with an atmosphere redolent of the 1950s.
Now for the refreshments. I ordered a crêpe that was spread with Bonne Maman apricot jam. It was wonderful. My wife asked the propriator if her ginger/pineapple/lime drink could be served without the ginger. She got a negative reply, and found the concoction undrinkable. I was able to get it down, but the ginger and the pineapple refused to coexist peacefully. Finally, I had an ice cream cone containing the manager's artisanale ice cream. This was very tasty, although a bit soft, and ran repeatedly down the side of the cone in the tropical heat. Still, it was quite refreshing.
