“Lovely little bungalow and lovely atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2014

We stayed at Sonya's guesthouse 4 days. I don't know what the dorms where like but we stayed in a bungalow that was very cute. The surroundings weren't that pretty but they had planted shrubs so you could tell it was a work in progress.

The bungalow itself was really lovely and cute as well as clean. The bathroom smelt a little funky (sulphur) but we discovered that most of the bathrooms in Thailand smell of this.

It was less than 5 minutes from the main beach, although the beach itself is pretty especially at night with all the bars lit up, it is a little quiet so you have to find out which beach party is happening and where if you are looking for fun but even then the party we went the vibe was very mellow, it was great though.

Definitely recommend booking activities, ferries and mopeds through Sonya guesthouse reception because everything is sorted really easily and included pick up from the guesthouse.

The stAff were really nice and cool, very alternative, laid back vibe about the place.

The public/reception/restaurant area was really nice although the food wasn't really to our taste.

Would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for five nights both in the private room in the guesthouse and in the bungalow. While the bungalow was our favorite-more pricey but still a great deal, very quiet and clean- the guesthouse had a friendly vibe and also a good option, especially for budget travelers. The great atmosphere, kind honest and helpful staff and maxing food made this a great place to stay. We highly recommend staying here but would not recommend renting the scooters unless they upgrade!

This guy luke wasnt the owner or anything, he was working there, and not for long time. A longtime guest told us the storie as we couldnt believe the negative reviews. So no worrys, we rented a bike there and everything was fine. We sleeped in one oft the Brand New Bungalows and they are clean, lovely and really worth the money. The bed feels like a big cloud ;) and its 2 minutes walk away from the Beach! We ate there everday lunch and dinner, the food is just excellent. The family is really nice and friendly, you can feel that they put much effort and love into their business. So forget about this guy Luke and enjoy the stay here. Its wonderful!

Room Tip: Ask fort the Bungalows.

We got a nice room with hot shower (double bed room 500 B)! Very friendly staff (they will help you with everything, English speaking staff) ! Excellent food! Cheap to sleep and eat. We loved staying there!

i stayed in sonyas for a long time(3 month) and had mostly a really good time. it's a good place to meet other fellow travellers.
location is really good. beach 2min., 7/11 1min.
the doorm is on the 1. floor with a little balcony and has 5 doormbeds.
stuff is nice and helpfull. the restaurant downstairs is very convenient and good.
in the peakseason(jan-feb) it was allways fully booked, so it might be a good idea
to book ahead.
btw- this mentioned guy ''luke'' is gone.
the lowpoint is the bathroom. bucketshower and no sink. it's clean but it
could be easily improved.

Stayed here for two nights in the dorm. I was alone in the dorm when I arrived in the low season. The staff gave me a good service and booked my ferry further to Phi Phi. It is a great family and they are always there to help you.
The restaurant is great. Some of the best thai food I have had so far.

You can walk to the beach in five minutes, but it is not a good beach at all. They can also arrange a tuk tuk for 50 Bath to Long Beach five kilometers to the north.

I enjoyed my stay!

When I first arrived everything was ok and he kept the whole nice to meet you act up. After I had boooked extra nights and paid, this is when his dont even care about the guests nature appeared. He embarassed a couple of my friends in the restraunt whilst they was eating because one of them forgot that they was going to grab a bite to eat with him. He then started to be really rude and asking them to get out of the restraunt. He puts on an act and he cant be trusted.

He is ruining the hostel for his family becuase they were so nice and helpful, even the younger kids they helped out around the restraunt, he is letting them all down.

I didnt have any bad experiences with the other guests there, made some good friends. The food from the restraunt is amazing especially the masaman thai curry, but my review is based on the bad experience I had there called Luke.
