“Cheap!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Unfortunately we left Koh Phagnan which had great weather, to visit Koh Phi Phi and Ko Lanta which had terrible weather. Big mistake, this was a really bad time to come to Ko Lanta. It was hard to even comprehend how this island could look in the good-weather season. As this was the monsoon season it was like the east coast of England in November. Bad weather isn't so bad but the rough seas wash up tons of rubbish which covers the whole beach so even when the sun shone we couldn't go on the beach.

We'd heard Sunset Bungalows was ok so we got the Tuk Tuk driver to bring us. The room was even cheaper than we thought - 200baht for a private bungalow with en-suite bathroom and tv. The woman who worked here was friendly but the place had the feel of it being closed for the hoildays. There were a few places open in the surrounding area for food but they weren't up to much.

Sunset Bungalows is nice enough just visit outside of the monsoon season!

Room Tip: The sea facing bungalows are right on the sea so have nice views.

Sunset is very friendly and superbly laid back. The best place to chill on Klong Nin beach, even though we weren't staying there this Christmas we made our way to the restaurant/hammock area everyday to just relax. Rak and his staff are very friendly, food is good and cheap, beer is great and the hammocks in the shade are a great place to while away the days. They made our christmas very relaxed, the rest of the customers are usually laid back and friendly. I didn't stay there this year as they were full, but having stayed previously the rooms are basic but comfortable, not 5 star but the cost reflects that. If you are looking for somewhere laid back to stay on a budget, you will not find a better place to relax.

Room Tip: Added 5 for the pool and the fitness centre as the sea is beautiful and a run on the beach is better...

Called up last minute, and the host was brill-and accommodated us fine. Even picked us up from our bungalow up the road!
Although we couldn't get an air con room, we did have a fan!
The bungalows are right on the beach-and next door you can get a massage, literally looking out to sea-for a tiny price. There is a hammock, and some tables, where you can get food, or a nice pineapple smoothie!
We enjoyed our stay-but definitely recommend getting air con if you can! Would stay again.

At my stay at Sunset Bungalows in the Klong Nin beach area of Koh Lanta, I came from horrible dirty and dark bungalows at Kentiang Bay Resort, where I spent an intire night itching from something unidentified in the bed, so this was definately a great change of accomodation.
There are not too many bungalows, but they are all nice and clean, the ones I saw with a double bed and a large single bed, so actually enough room if you are travelling 3 people. They have good sized bathrooms with hot shower, tv, WIFI, and a small terrace.
We were there in beginning of low season, so there was no restaurant open, but I think there might be one in high season, -anyways, they had a really lovely terasse on the beach where we took the liberty to drink some chilled wine that we brought with us. There are no fridges in the rooms, but the land lady were so kind to lend us both an ice box and a toaster, so we could save some money and have a proper (non-thai style) breakfast, which I especially like after eating nutritionless white bread-dead eggs diabetes thai breakfast for 7 months....:)
Anyway, we only paid 400 baht pr night, and I think this is pretty much the best you will get for this price on the island. The roundhouse a few meters down the road have nice, also clean bungalows, a little more simple and small, and with an 'open' bathroom, but you will probably be able to always get it around 100 baht cheaper. Nice too though, a little more boheme'ish looking.
I give my best recommendations for Sunset Bungalows.
There is a travelling agency a bit further down the road towards north, -of course I forgot the name, its on the same side of the road just across from a massage parlour, but the lady in there was so nice and helped the four of us, all going in different directions with such great knowledge and patience, and she even came to see us off at the bungalows in the morning, Really good service, and if you are looking for help, this is definately the place to go, so sorry I forgot the name, will post again if I remember later!

Room Tip: The room we stayed in had no air con, but was still nice and fresh with a cool breeze from the ocean...

We stayed here during our holiday January 2011 and it was wonderful.

All the rooms are cosy and clean. We started off in one of the cheapest rooms near the road and up graded a few times until we had a room nearest the sea and could hear it when we woke. Rak, the owner is very friendly, fun and helpful and their food is wonderful. There are a couple of wooden decking areas at the front of the property where you can sit, eat and drink, get some shelter from the sun midday and gaze out over the sea. There are several ladies who do massage in the open air in a covered area who were the best we found on Ko Lanta. (Do ask for 'soft soft' though if you prefer a relaxing massage to an invigorating one!)
We would definitely recommend and would love to go back.

Room Tip: Dont asume that all accommodation on Ko Lanta will have a hot water shower like we did. Check first!

Sunset Bungalows is on Klong Nin Beach - one of the best beaches on Koh Lanta. In front of Sunset Bungalows the beach has no rocks and is great for swimming or just floating for people of all ages. Sunset Bungalows is very reasonably priced and is right on the beach. The massage girls there are very good and conveniently located. We ate most of our meals in the gazebo on the beach and they are great value, and delicious!! And after dinner we always enjoyed sawng Chang yai (two large Chang beer) Rak is a very personable manager. We will always go back there!!!

Room Tip: We could have had A/C but have only used a fan which was adequate. Rooms are VERY clean! Quieter r...

We have had a awesome time at Sunset bungalows because:

- the staff is so kind and helpfull
- the bungalows are right on the beach, clean and very affordable
- the kloong nin beach is awesome, no rocks in the water, thick sand
. you can get a great massage only a few steps away from the sunset bungalows at bell massage, who has 4 beds on the beach
- you can eat the genuine Thai food over here. Just tell them how spicy you want to have it and they will prepare you a great dinner.
- this beach is not that touristic (on the first beach, you'll only meet swedish families with their kids, this can get quite annoying after a few days)...
- get a cocktail, lay down in the hammock and overlook the beautiful sea

  • Liked — the location, the cosy atmosphere
  • Disliked — nothing
