“Don't book a Standard room!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2012

The Standard room are very old. The door is looked with a locker so you can not lock the door in the night. The superior room is a lot better! Its new, clean and friendly . The breakfast is [--]. You don't have sausage and cheese. The eggs are not fresh. The omletts are fresh. The staff is not friendly. The hotel would be nice when they will spend some money!!! The view to the beach is amazing. One of the best things

We stayed at Nakara for 10 nights. The resort is in a brilliant location, right on the beach with a really well maintained pool. The room was fine, kept very clean and everything was in good order - air con, tv, hot shower. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, some of the pathways require attention to make them free of trip hazards though. The service is pretty poor, there doesn't appear to be anyone in charge during breakfast/dinner. Generally the guys are a little disinterested and would benefit from some leadership. I hope the Nakara management take the comments onboard and address this - when they do they will have a top notch resort!

The most expensive place we stayed in Thailand with by far the worst service.

When we arrived and were taken to our bungalow, the guys carrying the luggage peered in and said it wasn't cleaned yet so we headed back to reception. With no apology we were told to go and wait in their restaurant and get a drink, and they'd come and get us when the room was ready.

A few drinks later, my other half went to find out what was going on - they again told him they'd come and get us but it wouldn't be long. Over 1.5hrs after we arrived, we were finally taken to the bungalow. It turned out to be a twin room when we'd booked a double (the furniture is fixed so this can't be changed). Thoroughly fed up, we went back to reception and were told there weren't any doubles and as we booked online we weren't guaranteed the room we wanted. We'd actually gone to the resort the day before and no-one mentioned the lack of double rooms when we'd asked about booking, and it was recommended we booked online for the best price - if we'd have known that there were no double rooms we'd have booked elsewhere.

After arguing further, the manager admitted they did have some double rooms left in the resort but they were 2 price bands higher than we had paid so he couldn't upgrade us (so much for customer service - money's what matters here). In the end he managed to exchange our booking with another guest who hadn't arrived yet so we could get a double in the standard price band we'd booked - not entirely sure why that couldn't have been done earlier... We did eventually get an apology and left them to pick up the bar tab from the drinks we'd had whilst waiting. This whole incident cost us over 2 1/2 hours and left us with a very bad feeling.

The room we finally got was nice - if we'd have been taken there straight away we would have been happy - although I would like to meet the man who chose to base the bathroom decor on an abbatoir (think beige walls with paint splatters resembling blood and excrement - very grim!)... Unfortunately the water coming out the sink and shower was also dirty but by this point I really couldn't face wasting any more time arguing. It was also the only resort we went to that charged for Wifi.

Don't bother - find a friendlier resort. Try the Pearl Beach next door. The meal we ate at the resort restaurant was also only average, plenty of better places on Long Beach.

We spent a week at Nakara Long Beach in early January right in peak season. While a nice place, it has very much a resort feel to it which caters mainly for package tourists - nothing wrong with that at all, but maybe not the kind of place where I'd usually stay.

The rooms were in rows of bungalows - we had a superior room in a detached bungalow, about 100 metres from the beach. The room had a lovely covered patio - we had some rain and it was nice to sit there and watch the rain coming down, we also spent most of our evenings on the patio. The room had a king size and and a single bed (with very hard mattresses), safe, massive TV and very good AC. The rooms was cleaned every day with full towel change and overall the room was very clean. The bathroom was functional but very dated and in need of some TLC. The bungalows next to ours were in the process of being updated, so it's probably just a question of time until all rooms are refurbished.

We had breakfast included with our room rate - breakfast was fine, but again, the whole place had a very resorty feel to it, with lots of people bustling around, the breakfast area itself was open-sided and had sea view, but still managed to feel like a canteen. Breakfast was buffet-style with an ok choice, but nothing really fantastic and it got very samey after a week.

The beach was lovely, really long, not very busy. The sea gets deep really quickly, which suits me, but I'm not sure whether this great for families with small kids. We didn't use the pool area, but it looked fairly busy and they had some sun loungers. There are no sun loungers on the beach, but I think that's because of local law rather than the hotel not providing them. The hotel did provide beach mats which could be rented out (at no fee) for the duration of the stay.

We used the free WiFi in reception, it worked fine, but it would have been nice to be able to use WiFi all over the hotel rather than traipsing to reception laptop in hand.

We didn't use the restaurant for dinner, but usually went to one of the smaller places along the beach. I thought prices there were fairly steep for Thailand - something to do with a captive audience and being right on a beach, however, without transport there weren't that many options.

Overall, this was a really nice place to completely relax and chill out, great for families, but definitely not a place where I would want to stay if I travelled on my own (I travelled solo for most of my trip, but met my brother in Koh Lanta) as it caters to couples and families.

We stayed in a beachfront bungalow with a OK standard. Perfect location, but it stopped there.
The breakfast was a cue of Swedish people waiting for knife, fork or spoons, Plates, food and coffe were always a lak of.
The resort need a manager whom feel responsible for the guest, the staff and the buildings.

We were originally booked to stay two nights and we ended up booking two more! We had a nice little bungalow that was very private. The room was cleaned daily and the sheets were always changed and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the property was quiet. Great for couples and families! The beach was so private that we only shared it with maybe 5-10 other people on any given day. We enjoyed the massages by the beach and the location was wonderful. We rented scooters from the front desk and spent a whole day touring the island, it was incredible! Definitely a wonderful value- it's a must stay if you are visiting Ko Lanta.

I stayed at Nakara Long Beach Hotel on Koh Lanta from the 30th December 2011-4th Jan 2012.
Koh Lanta is a very quiet and chilled island where you got to really relax. it is an extremely loing beach which means that it si not crowded at all and you have heaps of space to yourself.
The hotel is nice, it is made up of heaps of villas. Our room was nice, not beautiful, but definitely functional and there was a lovely big balcony and the beds and pillows were nice.
The hotel has a nice pool nect to the lobby and thats where you can use the wifi. The massages at the hotel are great as well especially the chair you sit in by the pool when getting the foot massage (highly recommend - but not when there ar eheaps of kids by the pool!)
The only downside with this hotel was that there were no lounge chairs on the beach, you could get mats from reception but it is not as good as lounge chairs and umbrellas.

Breakfast was nice and there was a good selection including an omlete bar.
There are a couple of bars along the beach which you can walk to but we didnt find the food at these places that amazing. the BEST food was a little bit down the road, you have ot take a tuk tuk to get there (turn right out of the hotel) to a strip called Prah Ey (not sure if i spelt it right - more for the pronounciation), We went to a restaraunt called Papaya like 3 times as they have the BEST papaya salad and chicken Lab Gai. This strip has some seriously good food.
There wasnt very much ot do at night party wise but then again i guess we didnt look that hard as we really were there to chill out.

The staff at reception were nice and definitely tried to help but couldnt really speak english that well so it was very hard sometimes to get recommendations for day trips, restaraunts, sights etc.

We were there ove rnew years and the hotel put in a gala dinner which was fun. then there were amazing fireworks at the beach! its a nice place ot be over new years if you dont want to go absolutely crazy!
I would definitely reccommend this hotel
