3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011

Went to Kodai for a 2 Night 3 day trip at Hill Country Kodai.Booked through their main office and it seems the lady at the office is not aware of the facilities in the rooms.I specifically requested for a room with a good view and the answer i got was to book a deluxe room instead of regular suite.Reason is that Deluxe room and Deluxe suite has valley view where as Regular suite has only back side view which means you can see the next room through your window.Previously i had bad experiences with some other resort w.r.t the room and hence i was specific about what i want.So i was happy to book a Deluxe room which they promise to have a valley view.On checkin they took me to a room which doesnt have any good view at all and it was more of a kind of block with very few occupants(kind of left over rooms i feel). So i requested the reception to put me into a better room but the answer was a very expected "Sorry Sir".I was frustrated when i came to know that most of the Deluxe room has good views and there are a couple of rooms which doesnt overlook the valley and am given such a room.So i was not at all happy with the way they treated me eventhough i requested well in advance. The property is well
maintained, clean and has lot of staff to help us.But most of the staffs are very young and they are not at all comfortable with english.Instead of putting few good well trained employes they have put lot of staff(but not professionaly trained)..Food is expensive i would say and the quality/taste of buffet seems to vary from day to day.It was good for first day,but the next day it was just average.
Things i like
1.Well maintained,green,clean
2.Lot of staff to help. But i even saw 2 staffs fighting infront of me and throwing my room keys and arguing/shouting over roles and responsibilities :).I really felt bad at this incident.
3.My daughter liked the play room in the resort and it is very good to keep your kids busy.
4.Service at the restaurant was good.

Things i dont like
1.They dont keep their commitment done during booking regarding room. The booking and resort work as separate entity and none take responsibility.Eventhough they claim deluxe room has valley view, rooms 301,302,303 doesnt have it.So stay away.So always demand for better room and get it.Once you reach resort you are at their mercy.
2.Food is a bit expensive in Ala Carta and no other options near by.
3.Most of the staff dont understand english well.So you need to find staffs who know english. That is your responsibility
4.Resort is a bit far from town.If you like to relax stay in the resort and dont go to Kodai town.It is too crowded during weekends and holidays even during off season.
5.Avoid sight seeing if you are planning it on weekends. It took me more than 1 hour to cover some 4- 5Kms.
6.Travel desk promised me a taxi and later backed off telling it is not available.
7.Dropped a mail to booking office about the issue faced and none bothered to reply.
8.Reception in the resort is always crowded with staffs but very few care to smile :)

Room Tip: In deluxe room don't opt for 301,302,303 series.Request for valley view deluxe rooms only.

Thank you sir for your review. It is much appreciated. We truly regret the inconveniences caused. It is not often that we get such complaints but on the rare occasions that we do we make sure the issues raised are duly addressed to avoid any recurrence in the future.
Our resort is 4 kms away from the town. This serves our guests well if they are looking for a quiet and relaxing get away in the hills, away from the busy town. The drive from the resort to the town is only about 15 mins, even on a weekend. However it is possible that during your stay there must have been a reason for the traffic being held up. We would definitely look into the matter and see what steps can be taken to avoid the same in the future.

We stayed in the resort for 3 days. The resort is very well maintained and spacious, with good landscaping. The room was very clean. The best part was the food. We had 3 breakfasts and dinner each there and each of them were superb. Haven't seen such consistency till date at any other resort or hotel. The resort had plenty of indoor games that you could try at ur leisure time. There was also an ayurveda spa, although the costs were on the higher side for the packages. Overall it was a memorable stay and would love to come back some time in future.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2011

This resort property is about 4 km from Kodaikanal town. It is clean and pleasant. The staff was courteous and polite, but most housekeeping staff knew only Tamil. There was no alternative to the expensive buffet dinner at night. Breakfast was good. The room furnishings and fixtures were simple. There was free wi-fi internet, but it was patchy and slow. I could not get a firm mattress or support for my back even after requesting.

Thank you sir for your review. We are glad you had a relaxing stay at our Resort. The buffet dinner is included in the MAP package, we do however have an A la Carte Menu at the Orendo, that caters to a variety of palates. You would be glad to know that we have now introduced a second restaurant. Wi-fi is available in the Club house and Courtyard areas, where the reception is strong.

-Staff were totally disorganized. We arrived at 8:30 and promptly requested a larger room because the one we were shown couldn't fit the cot we'd requested (and paid extra for).
-Front desk said it would be no problem (although we would have to pay more for a larger room) and they could move our bags while we were at dinner
-It took them three hours and a lot of grief to get them to actually take us to our new room
-In the meantime, they somehow lost my cot, and instead brought in a soaking WET mattress that had been lying outside on the grass, and tried to pass that off!
-In the process they dragged in a pile of grass and a ROACH along with it.
-They told us they had no other beds (keep in mind that by now it's 11:30 PM, and we're exhausted!)
-After a lot of anger from us, and numerous phone calls and visits to the front desk, they finally did managed to "find" another cot.
-For the price, was disappointed by level of service

-Buffet is very good.
-Staff were rude to women.

Thank you sir for your review. In response to the issues raised in this particular review I would like to simply present the facts and let the reader form their own judgments.
1. This was an online booking for a "Couple Offer". The Offer clearly states that accommodation is for "2 Adults Only" in a "Deluxe Room".
2. It was peak season and the Resort was running to capacity.
3. At the time of Check-in however there were 3 Adults. Accommodating a third adult in a Deluxe Room is not only against our hotel policy but also highly inconvenient for the guest. A fact that was clearly put forth to the guest who then took considerable amount of time to decide whether or not to upgrade to a Deluxe Suite.
4. It was raining heavily that night, and our Resort, being well spread out, it took a while to move from one block to another. The mattress, in the process got a little damp. Precautions have been taken to avoid such issues in the future.
5. As it was peak season, most of the extra beds were already taken. And it was not easy to get a replacement.

As a request to our guests, kindly ensure you book the right rooms depending on the number of adults you are traveling with. This would enable us to serve you better and avoid any contingencies, especially if you chose to travel during peak season.

Being a club mahindra resort, this place is big, well designed, clean and green, but all these are given for such a property. Since its a little away from th city, it will leave u little choice to do anything outside the resort. The resort has a badminton court, TT table, a few other games and shows a movie every evening on a big screen TV. But despite all that, the place leaves u bored. The food was ok, but again you had no choice but only to eat in since you can't travel to the city, unless you had your own vehicle. Nothing exceptional we experienced here.
We did have a bad experience with th in-house tour operator. Be cautious while ordering their services

Simply Relaxing

Second time in Kodai. This time booked through my office.

Was worried as I was going there with my wife & in-laws. My thoughts - If anything goes wrong, my wife will kill me. She would say “Why did you not take us to same place as we had gone last time”. But I was saved….Everyone of us liked the place...There was something for everyone…

For me…I like to stay in a cottage than a room so I was happy. Then the food was very good…service at restaurant was surprisingly attentive & professional (it is a rear thing to find professional manners in restaurants in TN. Most of the places make customers follow their own rules)..also resort is away from main town so there is complete calmness around you.

For my wife…First of all, her parent were there (half battle won there)...Charges for 2 nights package were to her satisfaction…Best thing for her was the Ayurvedic Massage/Spa…that too was reasonably priced…

For my father in-law…cottage & food (all men think alike)

For my mother in-law… All of us were happy so she was too…above all this place was far better that where my in-laws has stayed earlier through a package tour by xyz travels.

Must Do - Get up late...take brakefast...go for some sightseeing...have light lunch in town...come back & go for massage...siesta for at least 2 hours....wake up & go for a stroll at Coaker's walk...come back for a game of Tabel Tenis....Cheers to drinks till late night and have sumptuous dinner before you hit the bed...Am I dreaming....:-)

Best attractions I would say are- Location, Pay room with TT table (played TT after years)…layout is also nice.

Improvements – Room service needs improvement…when I called they seemed to be surprised that I was ordering something chargeable in room service. (All of their package include BF & Dinner.)

Room Tip: Take the cottage...rooms are for business trip.
