I stayed here for 3 nights in June 2013. Villa Retreat is located right next to Coakers Walk and is walkable distance from Coakers Walk, Bryant Park and Kodaikanal Lake. The staff is very courteous and provide all the relevant information. Stayed in Room 205, the interiors can be improved for the rate being charged but the room was clean, had a 32 inch Flat Panel TV and 24 hr Hot Water. Did not use the Internet - its supposed to be available in the Dining Area since we had our own Data Card.
The Hotel has a separate Change Room, Lounge Area with a Game room which is provided for Guests to utilize before they check-in in case the guest arrives early or prefers to leave late. The breakfast is not a buffet but ala carte and one need to order and wait 15 minutes for it to be served. Further there is a cap of Rs.300 beyond which the items are chargeable. Food was OK and for foodies I would recommend Astoria located nearby for South Indian food. The hotel provided us pick-up and drop off to our Bus Stop located on Seven Road Junction (KPN Travels)
Coming to the rest of the Hotel, the overall area is not very large but the location is strategic and the sit out at the back of the Hotel offers amazing views of the valley. Also it is close to all key places of interest in Kodaikanal.
They also arrange for day tour/sight seeing tours from Kodaikanal - packages include local sightseeing, Berijam Lake, Mannavanur etc. The driver who accompanied us Stephen requires a special mention, he was very friendly and ensured we saw all the key places in Kodai.
Overall good place to stay at Kodai, slightly on the expensive side but in comparison to the other hotels we saw in Kodai this is relatively one of the good ones definetely...I would give 3.5 stars for the hotel and an extra 1/2 star for Stephen (Driver arranged by Hotel) who really took very good care of us during the Tours that we undertook.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Villa Retreat is an ideal choice for honeymoon couples and small families eager to savour and cherish the bygone era of staying in a traditional, charming, luxury, English Cottage. The architecture of Villa Retreat in Kodaikanal bears a strong semblance with the Victorian style chalets and villas, a perfect alternative to the contemporary hotels in Kodaikanal. ... more less
