“Nice fort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012 via mobile

The fort is not so big but stayin in a fort is awesome ex.. The rooms are very nice and big but when generator doesn work properly at the night, room looks like haunted due old rajasthani look.. The dinner is over charged and complementary breakfast is not sumptuous..problem in hot water for bathing too.. Staff is courteous and the owners are very good in nature.. I really like the place due to its awesome rajasthani decor..

This is one of the fantastic places we dropped in identically few years back.

Viz location and hospitality, we were just speechless! The personal touch and quality of food was unforgettable.
I actually visited it much before Oct 2011!

Room Tip: I visited this few years back, and it was under talk to be taken over by branded hotel group. Please...

Our travel agency advised us to stay at Bassi Fort after having visited the Chittorgarh fort, just 15 miles away, which we did. Do not. Bassi is a small village with nothing to see and nothing to do. And although the Bassi Fort is a very nice building, the decoration of the rooms is a fake old fashioned indian style : many colors, mostly pinks, with a certain "bollywood style" that is quite ridiculous. Honestly, it is far better to drive just 2 hours more from Chittor and sleep at Bundi, which is an exquisite and quite peaceful city, with all the houses painted blue, a superb old palace with famous wall paintings, and there I would strongly recommend sleeping at Bundi Vilas, with its tasteful decoration and delicious food.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

I stayed there on the 10th and 11th of july 2012. The hotel in an essence is a must have experience.
USP :
#1. Owner Sticks around hotel and stays in the premises.
#2. The place has a unique charm about it, not old world, not home run, its something else, a true Indian village kind of a feel
#3. The food - The don't have a 24hrs kitchen - fixed timings and meals, but its fresh out of the fields, you ask them what is available and what they should cook, and how you want your food, you get it perfectly that way. Authentic home cooked Indian food.
#4. The ambiance and the view from the place is amazing
#5. Floating bar in the pool, it has to be experienced from that place only.

Downsides :
#1: The rooms are clean - but don't expect them to be spotless
#2 : the AC is working - but thats about it, dont expect it to chill your room up, all it does is to make it comfortable
#3 : the staff is very friendly, and do things the way you want, but they are not trained, i still feel that they could do with a bit of formal training.
#4. There is not much you can do unless you do have a taxi/car there with you, and know all the routes around.
#5. The place is mosquitoes free but i could see a lizard or two.

Room Tip: I stayed in thier grand suite - its huge - i would suggest to go for something smaller as thier AC...

We stayed 3 days at the Bassi Fort in October 2011. We drove in from Kanpur via Shivpuri and Kota through one of the nicest highways (except the part around Kota, where a massive bridge is under construction and you need to take a detour through the city) that I have experienced. The traffic density is very low, the highway is huge and the drive is simply divine.Bassi fort is rather difficult to locate as there are no signs on the highway. It is close to the highway but the approach is through a very narrow alley inside the Bassi village. The fort is not large and amenities are shoddy. Though all rooms do have air-conditioning and basic amenities that you expect, we had to change rooms twice as something or the other was not working. Electrical wiring and plumbing are especially primitive. The hotel is under-staffed and though it was not crowded at the time we went, the staff seemed stretched. On the positive side, the owners live in the same premises and are attentive to your complaints. The food served in the hotel is excellent authentic local fare. The fort has a detached air about it and I managed to while away hours in the courtyard doing nothing. You can climb up the uninhabited hills behind the property and the views from the top are wonderful.
They are constructing a swimming pool and bar behind the hotel. At the time we visited, the pool was almost complete.
Of course, the place to visit from Bassi is Chittorgarh, which is a larger town than we had imagined. But we also enjoyed a short (but difficult) drive to Nagri village which is the ancient Madhyamika that was a flourishing town in the Mauryan times and was beseiged by the Greeks. Not much exists now and unless you are a history buff you may not find the difficult drive (my GPS did not have the place correctly marked) worth it. However, if you are, do try to visit at least the temple which is being used since many thousand years. On the whole, it is an interesting property in a part of rajasthan that is not teeming with tourists and manages to retain most of its charms.

Room Tip: Check the toilets, air conditioning and the electrical switches before you choose a room. They allow...

Hotel is in Bassi and not in Chittorgarh as many links seem to indicate. Bassi is about 20 km away from Chittorgarh, direction Kota. In Bassi the driver need to watch out for the signs of the hotel carefully. It is difficult to find.
The Hotel is not in the old palace. It is a newer development on the side. Rooms are very colorful and bathrooms are typical Indian Standard.
Personnel has all intentions to deliver the best service as possible. But the possibilities are limited.
Food was good Indian standard.
It is a good hotel compared to all others in the area. Second only to Fort Bijaipur.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. Some are bigger than others but that does not make a big difference.
