“Heaven for bird lovers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014 via mobile

This bird sanctuary is situated in such a place which is well connected by train and roads to all parts of India. Situated in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan is heaven for bird lovers. Especially in winters the migratory birds from siberia are main attraction. Youcan travel through it on foot or take a cycle rickshaw available inside the park. It needs patience to get a glimpse of some rare birds. Children may enjoy the visit provided you are equipped with binoculours and accompanied by a guide. Sometimes rickshaw puller himself plays the role of guide. You may be shocked by his knowlwdge about birds and the fluency by which he speaks english.

“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Must visit place for all nature lovers. Had a great time spotting rare animals & birds. We visited Keoladeo Ghana National Park on both the days we were there. Ideal way to explore the park is by walking or cycling & ideal time to visit it is immediately after winters or monsoons.

“Bird lover's paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

If you love to watch birds, this is the place.

This park has thousands of resident birds and if you are in winter, the place will be teeming with thousands of more migratory birds, from all over the world.

The best part is that the nesting places are all approachable and you can watch them from very close range. Local people are very helpful.

Suggest you either walk or hire a rickshaw (paddled three wheelers). The rickshaw drivers are very knowledgable about the nesting places and about the birds and they act as very good guide. Actually these people are trained to act as guide too. You can hire rickshaw either at gate or drive down (also can walk down) about 1.5 km inside to another parking outside the ITDC hotel and hire from there.

Best time is to visit in the winter and in the early morning; you will enjoy the morning mist.
Only watch out for the wild boars, avoid crossing their paths.

Suggest to carry your water. Minor food items and tea are also available in tea stall inside park.

Please do not litter.

“Bharatpur bird sanctuary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

though it was not the right weather for bird watching but still we managed to see some. Rickshwas charged us INR 100 per hour plus cycles were in bad condition still we took one for INR 40. The sanctuary is very big so its better to carry you water bottles and chips to munch.

“A Bird Watcher's Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

Bharatpur... for a bird watcher like me is a dream place to go to. I have been there a number of times at different times of the year. The best time to go there, in my opinion is Christmas week and later right to middle of February.

There are a number of good hotels... my choice is the Birder's Nest which is close to the Sanctuary.

The best part of the visit is that no gas or diesel vehicles are allowed in the Keoladev Bird Sanctuary. You either go around the Sanctuary in a Pedal Rickshaw .. which is driven by persons who have by experience become experts in the local bird life. But it will be a good idea to take the services of Guides who are accredited by the Forest Department. You can also hire bicycles to go around and if you fit enough.. you could walk. Wear good walking shoes.. the distances are long.

Carry your standard bird watching gear... good binoculars and camera with good lenses.

You can see a wide variety of birds .......... Painted Storks, Open Bill Storks, Spoonbills, Cormorants, Darters, Ibises, Moorhen, Pheasant - tailed Jacana, Purple Coot, White-breasted Waterhen, Paddy Bird, Night Heron, Comb Duck and Dabchick, and a large variety of migratory birds such as Ducks, Geese, Raptors, Waders, Warblers and Cranes. I was lucky to see the last pair of the rare Siberian Cranes which visited India in 2006.

If your are a birder, you will have a great time there.
