“Peace and quiet in the chaos of India”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We enjoyed a fantastic two week tour of India, and in all that time I think the only truly peaceful place we found was the Keoladeo National bird park.
Our tour guide arranged rickshaws for us, with the rickshaw driver acting as guide. They were brilliant, and you don't need to take the 'official' guides promoted at the ticket office - well certainly not for one tour.
Neither of us are really bird spotters but we thoroughly enjoyed it, and could easily have spent longer there.

“A beautiful break from Indian cities...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

I had originally planned a trip to Ranthambore National Park, but all the safaris were booked out. So I was looking for an alternative nature escape, and was recommended the Keoladeo National Park.

We only got to spend 3 hours here, more's the pity, because we absolutely loved it. There was just so much to see that we could easily have spent the entire day here! We hired both a guide and a rickshaw driver, and it was well worth the cost. The guide told us he had 20 years experience working at the park, and we believed him - his knowledge and his ability to spot even well-camouflaged critters just astounded us!

Both the guide and the rickshaw driver were very passionate about wildlife, and were thrilled that we were too. They showed us all the best spots to get photos, and the guide explained a great deal about the park, its history and the animals. It was fascinating.

We got taken to a small temple within the park, with a holy man that cared for some animals who weren't able to fend for themselves. There was one young deer with a cataract in her eye, who obviously adored the holy man, as she kept following him about everywhere. We did get asked for a donation to contribute to the cost of caring for these animals, which we were happy to do. But be prepared for this if you're sick of being hit up for money! :)

Liked the way rickshaws are provided to visit the sanctuary. No motorized vehicles, no noise or pollution.

“Good weekend getaway..”

Try the cycle rickshaw and horse cart.. worth it. If energetic, take a cycle on rent. Start early in morning to see the birds.
