“Unique and charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

I visited Fort Madhogarh as part of an Intrepid Classic Rajasthan trip in November 2013, and for me it was a highlight. It is by no means a 5-star hotel; do not go there expecting luxury, you will be disappointed. Also be aware that it's in a rural village setting, off the beaten track (for me, this is part of the charm). It is quirky and unique, peaceful and the staff are wonderful. The meals were great. The village walk was lots of fun and it was great meeting the locals. As suggested by a previous reviewer, the best thing to give the children is photos - post them back to the hotel or to Intrepid to give out. Each room is different. I had fans, and a hot water heater in the bathroom. We did lose power for some time, but really I felt that just added to the ambience! We had a great dress up dinner organised by our group leader Ajay Singh. Being woken at 5am by prayer call, and taking in sunrise and breakfast from the roof, was magical.

The fort looks amazing and the structure can be seen from far, the entry looks very grand but felt great when I was greeted by the locals. The rooms are all of different sizes and structure, it was very much different wat i thought and the way it appeared in the website. The food quality and the service is great i wish if the climate would have been a bit cooler it would have helped me to explore the village more.

We stayed here as part of an Intrepid tour. It was a bit like a real life best exotic marigold hotel. It was bliss after the chaos of delhi and agra and we enjoyed exploring all the different rooms. We did a fantastic village walk and purchased some kites which we flew off the fort turret. I highly recommend doing this, even though the locals will ruthlessly cut you down and the children will race to grab your kite! The rooms are basic and there is no running hot water. We bathed Indian style, using a bucket. It was a little bit spooky in the middle of the night with no power and the bed was incredibly hard, but overall it was a lovely experience.

Room Tip: Every room is different!

this was my favourite place of residence during the intrepid tour i was on . Although it was the most basic place we stayed the fort made up for it in terms of experience due to the locatation , the wonderfull staff and the fact that we were there for Holi festival which was magical as we visited the town below and had a colourfull time.

i stayed here as part of a trip with intrepid and i have to say this is one of my favorites places we stayed in. a pleasant surprise after the hustle and bustle of delhi and agra,

the rooms are very basic but comfortable. i only had a fan in my room which may not be enough if you are there during the summer months and its baking hot! as you wonder round the fort enjoying the peace, the views are magnificent. we took a walk around the village just below the fort and the people were so welcoming, the children excited to see you and desperate to have a photo with you.

the buffet meals were delicious and there was plenty of it.
one thing i highly recommend during a stay here is getting up early and watch the sunrise from the roof. its amazing.
a wonderful stay in beautiful surroundings. i highly recommend a stay here even if its only 1 night.

We arrived at the fort and were greeted by friendly staff, and given a lovely cool drink and had the most beautiful marigold garlands placed around our necks and all given a red caste mark on our foreheads. This beautiful fort is from a bygone era, and I loved the fact that we were the only people there, the staff were impeccably dressed with impeccable manners and service, Fort Madhogarh is out of this world, an orgininal fort where the current Maharaja, Maharani and their family spend a lot of time. There are peacocks wandering around the gardens, and a typical village settlement below the fort. The Maharani was invited to join us by Intrepid Leader, this was wonderful as she gave us a brief history lesson on the Fort and her husbands ancestors of the fort, you must go here it is a highlight I will never forget! Would definitely go back!

Room Tip: Very happy with the twin bed room, March a great time of year to travel, room had working fan, hot a...

We were lucky to experience a stay at this magical place as part of our Classic Rajasthan Intrepid Tour. Our hosts were so friendly, we were 'dotted' and 'marigolded lae'd' on arrival with a cool drink and allocated fascinating rooms all over this old but magical Fort, all decorated with unique paintings and styled, the bedspreads were a treat too. Little turret rooms, larger double rooms with little windows that opened onto courtyards, little sitting alcoves and views of the surrounding countryside and small village. Village sounds were happy sounds and we got a chance to walk around the village seeing village life like spinning and weaving and meeting the village people. Please, please do not give anything to the village children, it spoils the experience .... just take photos and send them back to Intrepid to give out next visit, that's all they really would like. Buffet meals were simple but delicious and that evening we were 'dressed' up in Indian traditional clothing and had a fun night, the staff were fabulous. Happy hour sunset drinks on top on the turret area were magical and also having breakfast there in the morning was fabulous. They sell beautiful fine tip paintings if you have the urge to do any shopping too. In all, a memorable stay in a place that is like no other I have experienced and one of my favourite stays in India.

Room Tip: There are steps to some of the rooms but the staff are happy to carry your bags. Handy to have a t...
