I stayed here with my family for two nights on Sept 1 and Sept 2, 2012. We have booked two rooms. Choosing to stay here would be a decision I would regret for a long long time, considering the fact that a tourist would probably travel to Amritsar perhaps just once in life. The hotel seemed fined from the pics and reviews to be good enough for budget travel. It was offering its best luxury AC rooms for just Rs. 800. We had to anyways spend very little time at the hotel and travel most of the other. Plus the hotel was really close to the Golden temple. That was perhaps the only good thing to have happened to the hotel apart from the food of its in-house restaurant which was good, but then, its not hard to find tasty food in Amritsar anyways. Almost everybody serves real good food in Amritsar.
So delete this hotel from your shortlisted list of hotels, in case you have, right away and be done with this review. For the curious minds, here are the details. We arrived in Amritsar by the evening Shatabdi from Delhi and it was around 11:00 PM when we reached the hotel. The hotel looked really dingy and was also undergoing some repairs. It seemed the hotel was built in some sort of a housing complex or something. Our so called "luxury" rooms were located in another building on the street behind the main hotel complex. The attendant took us there through a back door and then through a narrow, almost non lit street which was nothing less than "haunting".
Our rooms were on the first floor. The atrium was too hot as all the AC exhausts were pumping hot air directly into it. It was almost impossible to stand there and that being the entrance of the rooms, we had to face this torture for our entire stay there. The rooms were shabby. The sheets were dirty. We asked the dummy attendant to change the sheets and the pillow covers and also give us extra sheets to cover ourselves as the blankets kept there were too heavy for the season. He said another attendant manages this stuff and he is not available at the moment. We could hardly sleep properly that night.
What's worse - the washrooms were open on the top and on the other side, was the washroom of the other room, and, everything could be heard across. Disgraceful.
And the worst part, the rooms were scattered with big black ants all over. They must have been millions if I started counting. We asked for a room change, but as expected, they had nothing else to offer.
And as the icing on the cake, the attendant asked for a tip when we checked out, and when we didn't pay up, almost facially abused us.
Just to reiterate the pros, the only saving grace of the hotel is its proximity to the temple and the good food of its in-house restaurant which is hardly a luxury in Amritsar. Also, the hotel staff arranged a taxi at an affordable price to visit the nearby sites and the wagah border, which is again something one can easily get from almost anywhere in the market.
So, my humble request to all travellers, please never visit this hotel. There are numerous options available in the same vicinity at a similar price range.
We chose their best double room and it was really bad. No other room can be any better.
