We were a little unsure when we first arrived here as we were ushered upstairs into the "family" section. The prices seemed a little high on the menu, so I was concerned we were actually in the "tourist" section. Our guide re-assured us that this wasn't the case and said that downstairs in the main restaurant is more of a drinking den - in fact there were no women down there. We were joined by an Indian family in the family section, so were finally re-assured.
I'm glad we stayed as the food was amazing. We shared some fried fish (their speciality) which came in small boneless chunks. It was very good with a spicy mint sauce to accompany it. We then shared a fish masala with garlic nan - the bread was very good and was swimming in butter and fresh garlic (not great for the arteries, but very worth it!). The fish masala was quite simply stunning - it was singularly the best fish curry I've ever tasted. Beautifully rich and delicately spiced.
Makhan Fish and Chicken Corner (not on a corner, ironically) is certainly not fine dining, but it is excellent local food in relatively clean surroundings. Not to be confused with other restaurants with a similar name!
