My wife and I stayed here for two nights in mid-October 2013.
-- Excellent location, literally a two minute walk to the Golden Temple. You walk out of the hotel, turn a corner, and can simply follow the steady stream of people making their way to the temple.
-- Quiet rooms. The walls must be quite thick. As I entered the room for the first time, I was concerned, because from the hallway I could tell our neighbors were going to be making merry late into the night. But as soon as we shut the door, we couldn't hear their loud laughter at all. There was no street noise either. We slept very soundly.
-- Everything seems nice and new. The mattress and pillows were quite comfortable.
-- Very clean.
-- Great value for money
Cons: The rooms are on the small side, but plenty large for a couple with relatively little luggage. There was also no in-room safe.
A note on the excellent service:
-- The owner/manager of the hotel is among one of the best I have ever interacted with. He takes great pride in his property and truly does everything he can to insure his guests have a pleasant stay. He booked us a car to the Wagah border on short notice on a busy weekend--the price was fair and it saved us lots of haggling with touts. He also provided good restaurant recommendations, shared good advice on how to best utilize the limited time we had in Amritsar, and spoke perfect English.
-- We had some issues at check-in (described below), which the manager resolved very professionally. He accepted responsibility for the issue immediately and gave us a much appreciated discount. He also moved us into a nicer room for our 2nd night, after it became available.
Our check-in mishap: We made our booking online using bookings.com (which we have had problems with in the past). Due to travel delays, we arrived late (at 23:30) and were very disappointed to discover the overnight receptionist had no record of our stay. The check-in process took well over 30 minutes, involved filling out multiple tedious forms, and me having to practice my very broken Hindi. Fortunately, however, we were eventually able to get to sleep in a "deluxe" room with some things being fixed, not the larger "executive" room that we booked online.
