“Great location, functional hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

This hotel has a location where you ca walk to Golden Temple and Jalianwala Bagh. You can also do lots of shopping in the nearby markets.Rooms are reasonably sized and have th ebasic amenities.Breakfast not part of room , need to be ordered. Where there is a problem is again ironically because of the location. Taxis not allowed after 6 pm and we needed to put our luggage into two rickshaws and rickshaw it to the hotel ! We similarly had to get our car in advance when we left!

Room Tip: Dont miss the view of Golden Temple from the terrace , especially at night

We family of 6 arrived at Hotel at 5.45 AM and were offered complementary early check-in although official checkin was 12.00 noon. The staff helped us checkin. We came from Amritsar in auto till gate of Hotel. It cost Rs 100 (6 people 3 large bags + 3 small bags). Same auto is offering Amritsar city tour at Rs 1000 (including Wagah border) or Rs 500 only for Wagah border but did not take as city was close by to Hotel and we needed AC car for wagah due to June heat. Hotel helped us book a cab which costed Rs 1000.
We checked in 307 308 executive rooms which had great view of Golden temple (see my pic). Rooms are well done . Good Bed and Bathrooms, AC Window but room quite cool. Hotel does have restaurant but has good room service menu. We visited the golden temple once at 6.45 AM and 11.30 PM due to close location of Hotel

Jallianwala Baug is close by. Famous Amritsar like Kesar Dhaba, Brothers Dhaba are 1-2 Km away. We liked Bubby Vaishanav Dhaba as it was 100 meters away from Hotel and opp Golden temple

Room Tip: Select Executive Rooms: 307 is smaller but best views 308 is bigger ideally if family travelling wi...

You can't ask for a shorter walk to the Golden Temple (unless you're actually staying inside!) The property was clean, fantastic A/C, clean linens, great water pressure and temperature in the shower, stunning view of the Temple from some of the rooms and the rooftop. The staff was warm & accommodating, and the neighborhood can't be beat (notebook and cookware district!) The only thing holding it back form being 5 stars is the lack of a restaurant (although there is one about a 60 second walk away), although they do have a large room service menu. Definitely recommended for your stay in Amritsar! Although do be aware that for the most part, it is inaccessible by car, so the last hundred yards of your journey will have to be on foot or rickshaw.

The only plus point is the location. We didn't expect much after reading some of the reviews. Rooms were small, bedding okay, bathroom very basic but clean. Since we wanted a hotel close to the Golden Temple, this was a perfect choice for us. Getting up at 3am for the morning ceremony and just walking across to the Temple without worrying about transport...perfect!!
Taxis are not allowed in the area,( the only exception is :when you check-in or out of the hotel, or a VIP maybe??) so if you plan to do shopping or sightseeing be prepared to take bicycle rickshaw or walk to the outer perimeter for a taxi.

I sincerely urge that you don't pick this property for a stay. I was supposed to stay for 2 days and checked out after a night because of the appalling condition of the property and an amazingly incompetent staff. The place is a rip off and its a shame that in the name of being close to golden temple, they are taking the customers money for granted. Rahul Mehra, Harbinder and Sarabjeet are some of the jokers that I dealt with; they seem to have zero regards for a customer and will do everything possible in making your stay a nuisance. On checking in there was dirt all over and hair on the floor and tables, worse was that these nuts were very unapologetic about our experience and did not care about the basic of requirements. My mother and father went through hell during the one night stay and that too for 2200 INR; trust me a dorm is better than this hotel. The owners and managers are out to cheat the customers and I pray that the sacred place that they operate opposite will teach them a lesson someday by ripping them off all their money and they going bankrupt.

Please do not make the mistake of booking yourself in this property.

Room Tip: Nothing in this property is worth recommending

My review is a few months old, but I really wanted to write a review.
We arrived here for Diwali and were staying for two nights. We booked on the day we got there (Diwali morning). Had a look around some hotels and decided on this one for various reasons:
1. Let's be honest, for this area, there are no 4* or 5* hotels, so you need to compromise with decor if you want to be staying directly opposite Harmandir Sahib.
2. The price was so cheap. For Diwali time, I would have happily paid double as were directly opposite Harmandir Sahib.

The bed seemed ok, but I didn't trust using the duvets - just didn't seem very 'nice'.
The bathroom was fine - shower was excellent. No complaints there.
Room size was slightly small, but we honestly just needed somewhere that was walking distance to Harmandir Sahib.

We would leave our shoes in the hotel room and walk to Harmandir Sahib. We wanted to be there 4am, and the location really helped. Just needed to wake up 3.30am, have a shower, get ready and we were there within a minute!!

We went to Harmandir Sahib to watch the fireworks, but honestly speaking, you would get a MUCH better view by going to the terrace of the hotel - you get a BEAUTIFUL view. It's stunning!! Definitely go to the top floor.

Staff were friendly - upon checkout, we left our luggage to roam around the market and they locked the luggage away securely.

We always stay at the MK Hotel - 4* hotel, but far from Harmandir Sahib. I would definitely stay at this hotel time and time again.
