“A narrow congested staircase leads to Shivalinga of Ramayan era”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

A narrow congested staircase that existed from time immemorial leads to a slightly wider space which abodes a Shivalinga said to exist without any change from Ramayan era . Ram ,Laxman and sita idols are also present in another wider space .It is said that Sita was abducted from here by Ravana . The total area is under the shade of 5 batas , from there it got its name as Panchabati .

“Darshan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Took almost 45 mins to take darshan inside the cave. Had a long queue . Crowded & congested place. Entry is very small. Definitely not advisable for elders & those with back problems. One has to literally crawl in some places.

“man made wonder all right!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Even the local guide was not sure of the authenticity of the legend that Sita lived here in hiding ...he said even the scientists had not been able to date this cave accurately. It could be 100 or 2000 years old, it is certainly an old cave which has seen millions of visitors ... the rock is a smooth cold black stone ... very interesting, very tiny, only one way to go in, one at a time keeping your head ducked all the way,
you better be slim and fit and preferably short to crawl through ... make it quick as you could get claustrophobic... its an amazing network of 3 or was it 4 small 'rooms' just about 5 feet tall, carved out of rock..
Photography prohibited, go in without bags or belongings, you need to get out quickly!

“Very small entry !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Very old and good ,but very tight for weighty people !What I liked is the quick darshan. What is inconvenient is the small entry as the name suggests, Gumpha!
