“Somewhere different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

The colonial style bungalows made a change from the standard modern hotel blocks elsewhere. We were fortunate in being upgraded to a Royal Suite, presumably because they were hosting a business event at the time. There was much that was nice and restful about this place, and very easy to walk from there into town. All was clean and well maintained, but it also looks dated and housekeeping services were poor - it took 3 calls to get some light bulbs changed. Al a carte evening meals were good; buffet looked fairly bland and offered little Keralan fare. Breakfast good. Free wifi in reception area.

There are an array of different room types set within beautiful grounds. Our suite room was in a group of 6 rooms in a two story development all with large balconys. The suite has 2 rooms the first off the entry is a lounge area with wall mounted tv. The bedroom is large with another seating area and wall mounted tv. This opens out onto a large balcony with seating. The resort is of a main road from the town centre so it is very quiet. Tea/coffee facilites are available in the room as well as complimentary water. The bathroom has a large walk in shower and is well appointed. Free Wifi is available in the lobby area only but there is plenty of seating areas as is large and open. The restaurant is large with a large selection for the breakfast buffet and dinner. An alcarte menu is also available. There is also a small seperate bar area, one of the few we encountered on our indian trip. There may be a problem for someone who cannot do stairs as it is all on different levels. Could not find any faults with this hotel.

Padma and I along with my son and Daughter in law stayed for four nights at Munnar in December 2012. The Hotel is located in the City itself overlooking the valley. While the view is not what you would see if you are overlooking a tea estate, still it is good. The Hotel rooms are built on a step wise basis. We had a room at an elevated level with a good view of the valley below. We could see the vehicles winding up the road, some houses at a distance.

The rooms are good without being great. The attached balcony gives view to the valley which you can keep watching for a long time. There is a big lobby in which one can sit and idle or watch TV or read a book.

The main resturant where we had breakfast and dinner was good. The menu changed every day.

There were more visitors from north and western India with mandatory presence of foreign visitors during our stay.

We did not use any room service and did not have much of an opportunity to rate their service.

There are some beautiful roses in the garden which you can admire while trying to catch your breath during the ascent to the room.

It is advisable to have a vehicle during the stay as hiring local transport could be more expensive.

Munnar is a place where the journey to the destination is as beautiful or even more beautiful than the destination.

Room Tip: Try for a valley facing room at elevation.

A resort hotel, with beautiful well maintained gardens and great views across to the tea plantations. A nice place to relax though close to the bustle of the Munnar bazaar.High marks are for the location, gardens and excellent food but a need for attention to detail.

Although owned by the state government's KTDC, this property is well maintained and perfect for a getaway. A stone throw away from the town centre yet far away from its chaos. We got two rooms overlooking the hills and the view from our balcony was breath taking. Our plan had breakfast and dinner included. The food was decent without being over the top. The service was good and staff was attentive to all our needs. I noticed a lot of very demanding customers which is common for us indians and the staff were making sure everyone was satisfied.

Room Tip: take a room facing the hills.

A resort hotel, with beautiful well maintained gardens and great views across to the tea plantations. A nice place to relax though close to the bustle of the Munnar bazaar. Great just sitting on your veranda. Our room was nice but not lavishly furnished, and the staff were generally helpful and friendly although tt is not easy to find someone to serve you in the beer parlour, which is not well stocked. High marks are for the location, gardens and excellent food but a need for attention to detail.

We had an excellent ayuverdic massage in a place about 100 metres away. Cheaper than the hotel and apparently loads better but we have no way of knowing whether that is right.

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The rooms were dirty, had cockroaches in the bathroom. The bed sheets were dirty, had to ask them to change. They say it is four star hotel, no way it is. In the morning the breakfast was okay. The food was cold, had not much choice, the tea was cold too.

Room Tip: I would never go back to this hotel.
