“A great place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

I'm not sure what it is about the area but it's so relaxing hanging out around Munnar. We stayed at Oliver Brook for two nights and really liked it. A nice room, helpful staff and excellent food. The cookery demonstrations were nice too.

There isn't masses to do here but because no one is fussing around you you're quite happy to relax on the terrace steps at the bungalow. We took a guide who took us on a two hour walk around the tea plantations, visited the tea museum in Munnar and had an excellent massage whilst we were there too.

Highly recommended

Location- great views, set in lovely gardens, within easy reach of a walk down into the tea plantation. Rooms comfy and clean. My main beef is with the relatively expensive 3 course meal: our driver told us there'd been a rapid change of staff and a new, North Indian cook...packet soup, north Indian style curries- not a patch on the rest of the keralan food on offer, and 3x the price of local eateries. Word is, the owners (?the 2 teachers talked about in the guide books?) have made their fortune and taken their eyes off the ball. Packet soup? Unforgivable in the land of fantastic local cuisine

The drive leads up to the bungalow through a beautiful garden filled with flowers. Our room had a secluded sit out and comfy bed. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we went on the guided walk down the road between private plantations and back, and a cookery demonstration. Dinner is served in the dining room which has some tables out on the veranda, all candlelit, and the food is home cooked and delicious and keeps coming! Great scenery on the way to Top Station, which was unfortunately rather shrouded in cloud.

We cannot rate highly enough the efficiency and kindness of the Olive Brook staff during our recent stay. My husband left his camera battery chargeur and cable plugged into the bedroom wall and we only realised this upon our arrival at our next destination in Thekkady. As we were continually travelling, the Olive Brook staff had our forgotten equipment delivered to a hotel at the AirPort in Cochin. We therefore collected it there five days later before continuing our trip to Rajasthan. Brilliant! We were so relieved.
Our two night's stay itself at Olive Brook was peaceful with lovely food and comfortable beds. Bedrooms were clean and spacious. Lovely situation in the hills and right on the spot for walks. The staff were very helpful and welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the view. There are only four in all and apparently two are "honeymoon"...

Set in a lovely garden, above Munnar, the Olive Brook was a very comfortable place to stay for two nights' birding in the area. The food was good and service was friendly, if slow. The rooms were well fitted out and comfortable. There was good birding in the garden and in the adjacent area. Recommended.

We spent one night at Olivebrook, had a 2 hour walk around the tea plantations which are just down the road, dinner and breakfast.

Hot water in our room was a little variable, otherwise a great place, excellent food, gentle and pleasant service and very clean.

this a very cool bunglow , very nicely managed on top of a very quiet mountain. Far away from the crowded places, this place offers a blissfull and quite panoramic view of the valley. They also rent a bike at very cheap price, whic is one of the coolest way to roam thru the valley of munnar. The food is very simple and tasty, You can even order the menu you like. There is also a live cookery show demonstration.
So to sum it if if you are looking for a very clam , quiet and relaxing stay in munnar , opt for Olive Brooke.

Room Tip: All rooms have the same view , but donot move to shamrock if the rooms here are full.
